Not an awe-inspiring start for the Serb. He was down 0-4 in the 3rd but fought fought back to even it at 5-all.

The switching of the shirts at the handshake was a little....different

34 winners, 27 UEs. -- 7/18 in break points

Stoppini totally let Djokovic off the hook in that third set :o Only caught parts of the match but what I saw, along with following the scoreline (not to mention the Serb's results going back to last year), did not inspire much confidence in a successful title defence :tape:

Similar opening match to last year's one, Djokovic was close to be two breaks down and two points away from dropping the set then:

AO '08: 1R Becker 6-0 6-2 7-6(5)... *0:2 (15-40) in the third, 5:5 in the TB
AO '09: 1R Stoppini 6-2 6-3 7-5... 0:4 in the third, 3:5, 4:5* (30-30)

Congrats Nole, but I was not too impressed  Come on Nole - please focus more and cut out the ridiculous unforced errors.

It's more Stoppini losing the match.

Stoppini looks like an Australian not an Italian. Poor technically player, it's sad for tennis he defeated Agassi :o Andre probably played one out of 5 worst matches in career.

The forehand looked a bit iffy at points but its way too early to tell anything. He picked up his level there after going down 0-4. He will have to play better though against Chardy.

Can't believe the great Andre Agassi lost to a club player like this guy.

Well done Nole...give credit where its due I say, but this makes Federer's match look good in comparision. He had a much tougher opponent in Seppi and hit 45 or so winners and never got his serve broken.

never in doubt for Djoker, he still looks a bit uncomfortable with his new racquet

Djoker 4-0 down in the thrid but still takes the set 7-5. Not bad for a 'Djoke'...

I can...he lost to many club players in his career, including Dough Flach at Wimby one year :haha:

This was one of these ups and downs ;)

Happy that Nole won, though

first time I saw Nole play in 2009 and did he just changed his racket to head?

Damn- I just switched to Kblade 93 last December.

Djokovic looks very UNINTERESTED...and, from his comments, you sense he was humbled last year...and is trying to figure out what to do. Becoming #1 was NOT a foregone conclusion as he thought...and its clear, along with the insanely stupid decision to switch racquets for cash...that he is dealing with the pressure by almost going through the motions.

If he plays like this, he'll be out early...

What he may need to do is go back and get his old sticks...and paint them to look like the Head racquet...like Boris Becker did back in the day.

I agree with you sawan, after all he did it with his shoes in Wimby, so why not the racquet? ;)

With the draw he has, he is not going away until 1/4 finals.
And you are right, he is far away from last year's form.
