ESPN picks Murray to win AO

I am surprised but I guess I shouldn't be. The guys at ESPN usually go with the favorite, but I thought that'd be Nadal:

Nadal will poses some problems for Murray in the semis. That's for sure.

Here are 6 more picks: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/aus09/news/story?id=3834564

Murray goes 5 out of 6. Wow. Bandwagon?

Yeah Nadal will surely pose problems, I mean he rarely gives anything away and obviously has a fantastic game, but HC has never been his strongest surface, and Murray on form can literally demolish Nadal on hardcourt, Tsonga style.

Is it just me or could this be the year that Nalbandian finally wins his first slam. If he reaches the final against Murray, he might pull it off, no?

Nalby will lose to Fed in semis me thinks. But it will be a great start for him.

Isner and Tomic are more of a threat than Tipsy apparently. What a joke.

I suspect we'll be seeing every minute of every Murray match on ESPN. It'll be Murray, Roddick and Williams sisters - and maybe Fed/Nadal if they're playing at a time those other four aren't.

Absolutely, you shouldn't be surprised at all. NOW time it's going to Murray.

Boy I am glad Sharapova is out of this year's edition. I don't wish any player any ill but when she is on or when Venus is playing a 13 year old from Jordan, ESPN always go with that even if Federer is playing Nadal. I mean I am sure we wouldn't have seen the greatest final ever at Wimbledon if Serena and Venus were playing at the same time. ESPN would've showed the women's match and Dick Enberg would have covered the taped coverage of Fed-Nadal :)

Most fans/publications go with the bandwagon player at the moment so it's not surprising they went with Murray. Bud Collins is the only reliable source at the moment.

Funny you say that as ESPN's slam coverage has been quite good over the past few years, they show all the matches not the just those few that you're personally obsessed with.

The BBC will be a million times worse, it'll be nothing but Murray 24/7 and everyone else be damned. Pity the British tennis fans.

I think Roddick might pull it off and beat Novak this year. I don't know. Novak is not playing well...

Muzza is the strongest HC player right now, so they go with him, is as simple as that

I like the guy and I'm very aware of his potential, I'll praise him if he deserves it, but I refuse to bandwagon and start rooting for him if he plays against any of my faves

You mean like when they showed Williams sisters doubles when Murray-Gasquet were playing :spit:.

Who were they supposed to pick? Djokovic has lost early in the warmup tourneys, Nadal isn't playing well, and Fed keeps losing to Murray.

star sports in asia is still the worst.. atlest murray is a top player, star sports would play sania MIRZA more than 24 hours a day! instead of showing some matches they would show her practicing! or just hanging out in the locker room! its more of a SANIA MIRZA reality show!

If Murray actually wins the AO, will that stop everyone bitching about how unfair it is to call him the favorite?

Just curious. :)

I won't declare myself a Murray fan because I'm not but I can give credit when credit is due ;)

I don't think this is true. Maybe yours is a different region of Star sports (India). For Star sports of Hongkong/Singapore, they mostly show the lines-up of main courts with emphasis on the men (when a not so interesting match between female host player and some other girl is on the bigger court). Though it's not the best (they usually leave out a lot of interesting matches on the outside court), it's quite adequate.

Murray, fine. But the way they(some of them) emphasize Roddick and Blake is annoying(sometimes it's just too much).

Alas, I suspect Feds and Muzza are just naturally cocky. Nothing's going to change that.
