Nalby one of the biggest chokers in the game?

Once again i hear Nalby got tight serving for the match against Nieminen and im not surprised at all. Last year he was making a run for the TMC and fell over the last hurdle, the same the year before. I mean once again i wasnt surprised at all that he lost to Tsonga, this kind of thing always happens to him. He seems to be the 'close but no cigar' type.

Its so frustrating because he's got so much talent and i love to watch him when he's on form. Do you think he's one of the biggest chokers in the game? And do you think that's because of his fitness level? His nickname is Fit/Fat/Full Dave take your pick but ive never really seen him get tired in a match. Well maybe if he becomes more disciplined and his workouts he would be better mentally. What do you think?

This is bullshit.
How come he hasn't choked at TMS Paris and Madrid in 2007?

what final hurdle did he fall over in 07?

in 08 he had no intention of playing the masters cup anyway and Tsonga was the better player on the day.

yeah he does choke plenty but so do most players and this has been done to death.

He had no intention of playing the TMC? WTF??? In '07 he was in even better from the '08 as everyone knows but the form came to late to make the TMC. In my mind that is a form of choking. He makes this late run at the end of the year but still isnt good enough to make the Masters. Its frustrating to watch because clearly he could have done damage in the TMC. Why doesnt he perform more consistently during the season then he would make the masters easily?! Guess ill never get Fat Dave.

crap

Look dude dont take it so personally im a Nalbandian fan after all. But lets be honest he could easily have won a slam by now with his talent. That run he made at the end of '07 showed that he should be able beat any player, including the GOAT. Guess he's just too FAT.

The TMC was the week before the Davis Cup final this year. He said over and over again that he wasn't willing to jeopordise his Davis Cup chances by playing there and later publicly broke Del Potro's balls for doing it. In tennis terms you must've been living under a rock at the end of last season.

If by biggest you mean fattest then you're closer than we originally thought.

Yeah definitely something wrong with his mentality. He should be fit enough to do both.

Dave is only seen as the biggest choker because he has a higher than normal consumption of meat with boney flesh. Couple this with the fact that he refuses to kill an animal before he eats it, then yes, you'll start to see fantasy threads like this popping up from time to time.

Last year he was making a run for the TMC and fell over the last hurdle, the same the year before.

Last year his main priority was Davis Cup, and winning back to back Masters in 07 can hardly be called falling over the last hurdle. One of those who beat him to TMC then was Gasquet, who made sure of his spot getting into the semi of Bercy, where namely Nalbandian himself beat him comfortably and would go on to spank Nadal in the final.

Well obviously i dont want to believe Nalby is one of the biggest chokers in the game. But there is a case for him choking, all be it not the biggest choker in the game. And i hate these late runs he makes only not to end up in the top 8. He clearly should be there with the amount of talent he's been blessed with.

As I recall he has said in interviews tennis is mainly a job for him. Not his life. That might give us a clue to why he rarely comes up with consistent results throughout the course of a whole year, has mental lapses in matches or bows out early in slams losing to people he easily should have beaten if his mind had been totally set on it. This can also explain the fitness issue. He could put more work on his physique (even though he is powerfully built from the start with his broad shoulders), but he still moves well around the court with his anticipation, and maybe he is content with that.

Nalbandian isn't a choker, forget about it, he has only problems with long tie-breaks.

Nalbandians game is a choker not the man himself, his gung-ho approach is the reason for all these tight situations, just have to accept his game.

Nah TMC is best of three sets and max 5 matches. Davis Cup is max three matches. The players do this all the time. I mean a grand slam would have been harder for crying out loud.

he's not a choker, but I would say that he's the biggest underachiever of our era
with that amount of talent and still no GS title?

yes he could become another rios. (yes i know you hate him, but you cant deny his talent).

nalbandian motivation looks on track this year, i think he plays his best when he has rival argie doing well.

I totally agree with you, I have nothing against Rios the player (well maybe I didn't like his service but he had impeccable shots when on ;) ), but the person, so I don't really mind, at least Rios got to be #1, while Nalby has never done it and curiously the biggest argie headcase (very talented but weak minded) is gonna end up being the only GS winner of his generation
