Murray has a cheeky pop at Federer

Might as well keep this little controversy alive by posting Murray's tongue-in-cheek response to Federer. :D

Murray was interviewed about his thoughts on the draw. At one point the reporter asked Murray who he would make the favourite for the Australian Open if he was a bookmaker.

He replied: "Well, I think Federer wants to be favourite, so I'd probably give it to him" (laughing).

Here's the link to the interview.

youre seriously deluded my friend. Fed is good but he's not that good. There are couple of guys out there who are far younger and who basically double-own him, triple-sell him. not to mention he won most of his slams vs gutless, 1D, injury prone, talentless opposition and kids.

if he doesn't break Petes, its all in vail and time will surely tell. besides, why do you think he has to resort to mind games and such?

cause he knows, that when all things are equal, its WAY much harder now than it was when he was pouncing pony Roddick at the slam finals...

so why don't you just hold your glory horses until he does it, he's still playing for the trophies not for fun at the seniors tour.

15 All.

15:30, Murray, I believe.

Roger needs to take care with that one. He's not Djokovic, who a) lack respect as a general rule. b) does enough stupid things to earn Roger's disdain, as well as the rest of the tour c) Has a negetive h2h against Roger.

Murray showed Roger a lot of respect in a way Roger should appreciate - when he fought his ass off to beat him during the TMC, at the cost of the final. He's a fighter, and Roger should have a lot of respect for that. I think Murray is a lot more like Roger than either Rafa or Djoko.

I do have to say though, that I don't think Roger's original comment was meant as a dig, I saw the clip - he shrugged, he doesn't believe Murray is favorite, and I'm not sure he's wrong. I think being 'hot' is quite different from taking a slam, when you've never done it. Roger also added Murray put himself in a great position to do so.

However, Roger should have just replied that he doesn't care that much about the bookies, and leave it at that. Lately, he's been letting the press bait him, he viewed the question as a dig, a replied accordingly.

I didn't personalise your remarks. Quite the opposite, in fact. You made a few general remarks about the thread, and since I started the thread I assumed they were directed at me as much as anyone else.

The series of threads about Federer, Murray, and Djokovic are simply a means of building up to the Aussie Open. No one really gives a fuck about them. It's a nice way to spice up a potential match between Federer and Murray, even if it's completely superficial.

Clyde, here's the general point: It's not the fact that you conjured up such a thread that I find to be bothersome, such is your prerogative and right, but rather it's the fact that such a thread would receive so many responses which is perturbing.

With the exception of a few posters, most people on this board seem to adopt a rather blasé attitude towards discussions revolving around results, potential match-ups, and the technical aspects of the game. Contrarily, pseudo-controversies, such as this one, are greeted with enthusiasm and childlike elation.

Contrarily, pseudo-controversies such as this one, are greeted with enthusiasm and childlike elation.

This is typical MTF. Make a thread about trivial off court bullshit involving top players and you are guaranteed 100+ useless replies in 1 day. Make a serious tennis discussion thread and it struggles to get 100+ replies at all.

Well he has said that he does and I'll take his word. I mean we can't just sit here and say, that guy doesn't respect that guy. In real world, things could be very different. You and I are not Nadal so we can say yeah he disses Fed but come on. But I know one thing. I don't respect Nadal for his theatrics on the court.

Completely agree, nobody's better than Roger :worship:

:yeah:

It's amazing that such threads are able to generate pages and pages of comments. To what do we owe this brouhaha ? Yet another trivial statement made by a player, thus culminating in yet another manufactured, pseudo-controversy.

What's amazing, wind bag, is that you kept your reply to under five paragraphs. Sure this is pseudo-commentary. That's MTF. Get over it or get redundant.

I see Murray has been attending Dijana's School for "A foot-in-one's-mouth." A pre-AO observation: Djokovic making racket excuses; Fed and Murray with a little verbal spat (thanks 6 month wonder Murray for potentially helping to motivate slumpFed to tying Pete's record); where is Angel, the true #1? Quietly going about his business, as expected.:inlove:

Might as well keep this little controversy alive by posting Murray's tongue-in-cheek response to Federer. :D

Murray was interviewed about his thoughts on the draw. At one point the reporter asked Murray who he would make the favourite for the Australian Open if he was a bookmaker.

He replied: "Well, I think Federer wants to be favourite, so I'd probably give it to him" (laughing).

Here's the link to the interview.

Because this isn't last year and he's the form player. I don't recall saying that I think Murray will win the AO this year. I said that I can't see anyone beating him prior to the semis.

This is what I want, the top 4 exchanging crap to each other, spread the fire. This is good stuff.

Rogi is the best at it, and definitly the smartest and subtle.
Andy will struggle, he doesn't know what it is to have media against you and calling for your fall, he has NO IDEA WHAT FEDERER IS GOING THROUGH;alright little kids? :p

typical scottish arrogance... he has no Grand Slams yet it's as if he has 13 and fed has 0.

journalists at it again  from his post R2 match interview:

Q. Have you been intrigued that Roger and Novak are a bit irritated that you're getting a bit more attention and people are suggesting you might even win this thing?

ANDY MURRAY: "I mean, quite big contradictions. You know, they don't ‑‑ you know, they say there's a lot of pressure on them, but then people aren't saying they're the favorites, but they want to be the favorites. Therefore, by saying they're the favorites, they're putting more pressure back on themselves.

I don't really understand the whole thing. I mean, I think I played well enough in the last six or seven months to be in that sort of group. Whether I'm the favorite or not, I don't know.

Like I said at the start of the tournament, Federer, Nadal have got the most experience, you know, and probably merit being favorites. But there's a reason why people think I have a chance to win here, because I played very well the last few months and won against them."

Djoker and Fed have big ego's. That's all its down to.

Murray and Nadal don't have as big a ego as them. But can you blame Fed's ego after all his success? Imagine Djoke's ego if he won as much as Fed.. he'd literally burst... its maybe why Djoke won't come close to Fed as Djoke would relish his own past successes too much.

Best of 5 is another world, Murray needs to learn to save energy by taking control of points and not running around like a rabbit or he will never win a hardcourt slam.
