Sydney SF: Nalbandian def. Gasquet 6-4 6-3

Only caught a bit of the last set. After Gasquet got his first and only breakpoint of the match and converted it to get back on serve, he let Nalbandian break him again. Nalbo didn't get many first serves in but was still effective behind both his first and second. Richie really struggled to win points on his second.
In the rallies Nalbo constantly robbed Gasquet of time, pushing him around.

Good luck nalbi probably against Djokovic.

nalbandian played controlled today, and richard midway through the first set when he got broken appeared to stop caring and just went through the motions
his mind was already in melbourne
the in between the legs shot was good though

The fuzzy fat one played well. Even though Gasquet is just a snack for him, tommorow he will have dinner vs. Djokovic. It's your time, Fatty, it's your time. The AO awaits.

0-7, what is beyond pigeon? Nalby played well, nothing spectacular but solid and RIchie clearly had lost the match in his head before he walked out on the court. Nice between the legs passing shot from Richie but that's about the only nice thing I can say. On to Melbourne and forget this one, PLEASE.

N0w Nalby win the DAMN title, but I bet he packs it in against Novak.

O.K. Richie21 take your shots...

Horrible match up but atleast Gasquet tried. Nalbandian the worst rival for players like Gasquet and Nadal. The more you try to fk him around with flashy shots the more he'll punish you. This guy's playing some crazy tennis again. But if he is to play Djokovic it won't be easy since Djokovic is one of those bad match up for him. Not only can he play a style like Hewitt, but with much more penetration. I would not count the last time they played on hard courts where Nalbandian claimed victory. Djokovic simply was out of fuel.

Terrible performance from Gasquet, I do not know why some of you rate Gasquet so highly, he isn't anything special and I don't think he will ever have the ability to challenge semi-decent players, like Nalbandian, so what does he do when he has to challenge Murray or Federer? No chance at all.

Nalbandian pushed him around, completely dominated him.

This is a carbon copy for 2008 except Gasquet is 1 year older, another new overrated arrogant coach. He needs to change his game, because he has no mental strength whatsoever, no fight in him at all. And on top of that, his forehand is a joke.

Gasquet is fitter than Nalbandian and he still can't beat him, while an injured Federer if you remember, took Nalbandian (in his prime) to 5 sets in the Masters Cup final in 2005.

That (and his smooth, clean game) are actually what I like about Nalbandian, although I could do without the beer belly. He obviously enjoys life, doesn't let a silly game of hitting a little yellow ball rule his life and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks about him. ALthough it would be nice to see him use his talent a bit more.

Hope Nalbandian is fired up for AO cuz things could get fun. And as for Richie PLEASE don't revert back to last year, you were making nice progress and I'll write this one off to pigeon or should I say bitch status...

people still try to defend Federer with the injured excuse, it's pretty pathetic. Federer was 100% for that match, Nalbandian at his prime is the better player, that's all.

Good match from David btw, he didn't play his best but it was enough to beat Richard :)

Only his fanboys thought he was making nice progress(and just because he beat the 2 best french players who basicly self-destructed in their matches against Gsquet).

you have actually got no idea
when, last year would he have come back from losing a first set 6-1 to tsonga to win? he would have self imploded, tsonga wouldn't have had a chance to! And, having been at that match, i can tell you he played very well then. He has made 2 semi's to start the year and didnt even make a semi until after wimbledon last year.
I also watched 3 of his practice sessions and he was hitting extremely well, was fit and very positive. Im not saying he will go out and win the aus open now, but it IS an improvement from last year. He beat 1 top 10 player last year...2 already this year
I don't see how you can think that is not even a SLIGHT improvement.

It's people like richie that's causing Gasquet to play girl like tennis. Totally deluded. No credit can be given to the opponent who was obviously playing super tennis. Only Gasquet himself to blame. Open your eyes. I saw him in every match of Brisbane International, he did great there, but got a little unlucky playing Stepanek. Today he simply got outplayed by a quality player and that is it.
