Auckland SF: Querrey def. Ferrer 3-6 6-3 7-6 (4)

I didn't follow the match all the way through, but the third set was interesting. Ferrer broke twice to lead in the third set, served for it at 5-3, got broken, had two match points at 6-5 15-40. Querrey played well, a bit too passive for my opinion though.

Pics looked ok, IMO, just not enough consistency today. His serve is also a liability, as everyone knows. Moved well though.

Grats Sam :yeah:!

Saving two match points in the process. :worship:

Hopefully Söderling beats del Pony and sets up a great final.

Querrey :yeah: Nice way to save both match points. Pics has lost first match after wasting MP since 2005 (also 2 against A-Rod in paris).

It certainly was an amazing comeback for Querrey. At the same time I am getting worried about Ferrer's mental state...sometimes he looks like a guy on a path to self-destruction.

Amazing comeback from Querrey. In reality, I expected him to win easier, but it was very windy out there which favoured Ferrer.

David what the frigging hell has happened to your head?!
Anyway, well done Querry, showing some real guts that I haven't seen before, but enjoy the victorious feeling whilst it lasts. The Sod will win big time :yeah:

Well done Sam- his game has really become more well rounded over the past year.

I am very  for Pics. His forehand was not clicking. He has been in a bad place mentally for a while now and I don't think this will improve things.

Great result for talented Sam.

Tough draw for him at the Australian, but if he makes it to the third round I could see him beating Roddick.

Are you serious?

Why not? Their one match to date was tight, and Querrey has improved since then. I'm not saying it's definite, but if he keeps playing this way it's a potential upset.

Saw most of this match and was definitely heartened by the Spaniard's performance till he let it get away in the third... Still, a great effort from Querrey to dig himself out of those critical break/match points and close it out in the TB.

Ferrer was playing solid all the match, i saw the first set and the end of the third.
He was controlling, in fact i was thinking, oh finally this the real Ferrer came back after the bad end of 2008, but serving for the match he lost all the concentration and killed him.

He even had the 2 MP on Querrey's service but 2 big serves of the american didn't let DvD to be agressive in that points, and in the tie-break ... is a lottery you know ...

He has recovered his game but he needs to be calm when closing matches ...

Can't say I'm shocked about the result though...although, leading 5-2 in the 3rd (as some people post here), he probably should have closed it out.

Del Potro in the final.
