Kohli :yeah:

Ferrero choked this match. He led 4:1 in the third, Kohli played good tennis then but in the tie-break at 5:4*, Ferrero played slice forehand return on Kohli's weak second serve and the ball landed in the half of the net, moment later Kohli served an ace to gain 1st and the last MP of the match.

:bigcry:

A repeat of last year's final.
JC led *4-2 in the third set, only to be broken back with a DF. :(
He also came back from two minibreaks down to level at 5-5 in the TB...
O well, he was hitting some fantastic winners today, especially from the second set, so I expect he will do well in Melbourne!! :rocker2:

Hey Voo, doesn't JCF actually have a good final set TB record?

I'm not sure it was a choke but for sure he let Kohli off the hook today. Too much carelessness in the middle of that last set. And the TB was just poor. I don't know what he was thinking with that attempted block return at 5-4.

i only started watching from the second set on. From what I saw, entertaining stuff from both :yeah: lots of ups and downs. Kohli's forehand were quite erratic at times, especially towards the end of the 2nd set and the beginning of the third. Some of his shots landed miles out. :tape: He tighten up his game and toughed it out at the end.

JCF played well too considering he hasn't played that many matches. He still got some wheels...chasing down those drop shots with ease. And he hit some very delicious winners. I hope he'll do better the rest of the season.

Yes, he has still very good record: 18-11 (62 %), Kohschreiber too - 9-5 (64 %)... all-level stats.

This was nice preparation for next week's aus open. Shame Ferrero had to lose, but congrats to Kohli for maintaining composure in such a tight match.

Now hurry up at get to Melbourne JC!!!!

I am sure he was thinking, "this guy isnt dumb enough to hit a second serve right into my forehand wheelhouse". Expecting the backhand return, he changed grips, moved to that direction, then was helpless when the ball came right at his face, hence the wrong grip tap shot .
