this is the first big test for lleyton. sure, tipsarevic is able to play solid tennis from time to time but daveed is the one to beat for lleyton if he wants to show the world that he's sill capable of something great in melbourne.

what do you think? somehow i believe he takes out nalbandian in straight sets but that's mainly because nalbandian is going to play crappy tennis. who knows why.

SO, Nalby starts right from the quarters? Shouldn't he play a match first? Are you sure about this?

Yes Nalbandian defeated Llodra and plays Hewitt in the QF

Yes, he is right, I checked it and somehow nalby beat Llodra. But if you check in the livescores of the ATP there is no record of it...weird. Ghost match?

I think Hewitt to win, just not sure if it'll be in 2 or 3. Ill go with 3. He makes it hard for himself sometimes :P

Hewitt in three, he always play well in Sydney and I think Nalbandian will be rusty.

as much as i would want hewitt to win this...

i see nalby winning this in 3 sets.

really hard to tell, all depends on form, Nalbandians form will say ALOT...he can play one good match then a crap one....i say two options either nalbandian in 2 or hewitt in 3 sets

Nalbandian 6/1 6/3 against Llodra is quite great.
Did anyone see the match ?

This has always been an interesting match up. Nalbandian is probably in better form but I doubt he will push himself too much to win this. If it is a tough match I would say Lleyton in 3, but if David is in a good mood he could wrap this one quickly in straights.

very interesting match up, reminds you of the good ol' early 2000s, stuff like their AO 2005 match (Hewitt won 6-3 6-2 1-6 3-6 10-8 :worship:) I predict a 3 setter but have no idea who will win.

I think Nalby might be a bit too tough for Lleyton this early in the season

There's only 2 things Fat Dave gets motivated about, donuts and people he hates, considering Rusty comes under this criteria, giving this to the Fatman in 2.

Yeah, but I also think that seeing an Argentine on the other side of the court will get Lleyton all pumped up.

You got a point, but Fat dave playing at his best>Hewitt playing at his best.

I'm not so sure about that because their head to head is 3 to 1 for Hewitt and their last match dates from 2005. I think the best Hewitt and the best Nalbandian are very close to each other, the question is only whether Hewitt will be able to reach his best level again.

Nalbandian in 2. Unless he wears a blind fold then it will be Nalbandian in 3

Weird to see these two playing in the QF round of a small event. Used to be one of the fiercest rivalries of the tour a couple of years back.

I like this match up. Surprised so many people said Nalby in 2. Hewitt seems in decent form and it is being played in his country. But also Nalby doesnt peak this time of year. Id say Nalby in 3.

Too early in the Hewitt comeback from injury to challenge a player like Nalbandian. In any case Hewitt has had a pretty decent hit out over the past 2 weeks.

Bandy will win fairly comfortably

Knightmace

I think if Nalby doesn't play good then Hewitt will win easily.

But maybe Hewitt in 3

The pair have had some infamous encounters of the physical and verbal kind. "Nobody is a friend of him," Nalbandian said before a Davis Cup tie in South America in 2006.
And Hewitt, after the Argentinian bumped him during a change of ends at the 2005 Australian Open, commented: "I don't think David Nalbandian is the cleanest guy."

Hewitt is probably telling the truth, imagine Fat Dave being hungry during a match, the guy would literally clean up at the buffet stand afterwards, pun intended.

I heard the weather is going to be cooler another bad sign for hewitt. he likes the heat and counts on the other player to melt out there.

It won't be cool when they play. Late change in the weather expected to affect the night session only.

as long as you are here -why are the Sydney ball kids dressed in black? with the heat on the court seems like a lighter colour would be kinder.

fat dave has been banned from entering chinatown in sydney, where the all-you-can-eat-buffet economy have taken a battering from dave in recent years...

dave's torment and rage at being shut out from several sydney eateries resulted in him hitting the suburbs... nasty c***...

the new zealand surfing community were super happy at the news of dave cooling down from his heated rage with a quick dip at sydney's bondi beach...
