After that blip in the first set, it is nice to see Delpo storming back!

It all changed when Gulbis choked at 6-4 4-4 30-0.

I can't stand Gulbis' lack of concentration. He lost 6 service games and on each break point he played like an amateur :help: Gulbis is such a waste. It's not only a matter of his technical skills, he's got also amazing potential in respiration what's very helpful in Australia.

One just won today.

Disappointing overall from Erno and those lapses are  Whatever happened to being focused on important points

Hard match for Gulbis today, sounds like his mental strength cost him dearly today though, is he motivated enough?

Well done to JMDP, feel he is a darkhorse for the AO.

Gulbis is another Gasquet.

Has Gulbis already beaten Federer or made 2 MS finals??

His breathing efficiency is tremendous. After the longest rally at the end of the third set Del Potro had huge problem to regulate the breath while for Gulbis it was just a rally like any other. Gulbis is actually beyond physical fatigue after two hours of play

I guess it's too early to tell with just one match under his belt. Let's see how the week develops for him.

You can't compare Auckland with Melbourne, conditions wise :haha: :smash:

No he hasn't. But, I was just refering to the fact that they are both talented headcases.

Gulbis is way overrated... People keep saying how effect his game is, but right now he's nothing but a ball basher, and ball bashing is always effective against any player but most likely you end up losing.

It's funny how some of you are forgetting Gulbis is still a kid. He still has a good year left ahead of him before we should even expect to see consistent results. Until then he pull occasional upsets and might make a random run in a slam, but temper your expectations. He's still very raw jesus.

Del Potro is a month younger than Gulbis and has managed to string together consistent results over the last 6 months. People are probably suggesting that much of Gulbis' hype is unwarranted. Which is fair enough, when you consider that several players had already found consistent success on the big stage at an earlier age. Game or no game, results are the most important thing in tennis - just look at Berdych and Gasquet. I'm not ruling out Ernests' chances of developing into a solid top 5 player, it's somewhat expected to be honest, but so far he's untapped potential.

Exactly, at the same age, Gasquet and Berdych were actually doing much better : both of them were in the top-20, and Gasquet reached the semi-finals in Wimbledon few months later.

So far Del Potro is in the move of the "champions" (better than Gasquet and Berdych) but Gulbis is late.
