^Yep. Martin Verkerk retired. What a waste of a WC last year:rolleyes:
Martin Verkerk won the tournament last year.
Freaking hilarious would have been if he had made a first round exit.
Baghdatis#1
03-20-2009, 07:28 PM
Getta, I was saying that the Greek federation wasted a WC. It's true:shrug:
Yes, that was nice to give to Martin, but he no longer plays tennis now, so it was basically a waste.
Poor Nikos Rovas was the only Greek to advance to QR3 and he lost 7-5 in the third:bigcry:
Also, are you trying to say that the 3 Greek WC's losing in R1 are hilarious? Just for the record, Economidis was a seeded WC. Jakupovic and Gemouchidis put up good fights. Economidis and Jakupovic were doubles finalists. Gemouchidis and his Greek partner lost to them in R1, so there's nothing you can do about that. The other Greek WC team lost in a super TB in R1. ANYONE can win those super tiebreakers:shrug:
I really would like to see a Greek player emerge here or in Rhodes. That would show you...
Nathaliia
03-21-2009, 10:57 AM
When someone wins a tournament he can't be possibly a wasted WC  How would anyone know Verkerk was about to retire soon, and even if, he won, so the crowd watched the best tennis from him, right?
A wasted WC is when someone from abroad (no big name) comes and loses in the first round.
Greek tennis is in a low and I hope it will recover soon because you guys can be pretty loving and supporting your sportsmen, you deserve a top name.

Will big Maza come back? He promised last year that he will play the Status Open 2009. Why does no one know where he is?
Baghdatis#1
04-01-2009, 07:30 PM
^Yeah, Maza said that too. He hasn't played since June, and he is out of the top 1000 now:o
The final MD WC went to Kleftakos. Some of the QWC's were already announced. Nikos Serkedakis, Ilias Giannakakis, Nikos Rovas, Dimitrios Loucareas and Charalampos Kapogiannis all got. I think that Kapogiannis might give it up, as he may be ranked high enough for qualies. He is higher than Gemouchidis, so...
We'll just have to wait until the Q-Draw...

I don't trust Vanek out of definition. Low motivation suspicious player. Eco has been utter shit so in a clean match and if Ouanna didn't party last night Ouanna should win (or rather Eco should beat himself)... Eco hasn't played tennis for a long time, I think he will be only serve.

He took the first set with two breaks. After that he went 2-5 with two breaks in the second set, but stepped up a bit and pressed Munoz into errors to level 5-5. Naturally he lost his serve to fall 5-6, but once against broke back to force the tie-break, which he took comfortably 7-3.
