First GS this year... Who will win?

Well I'd like to see Novak with the trophy again but I don't think so that he will do it...His poor performance in Brisbane showed that his game with a new racquet is not on the highest level unfortunately:sad:So I voted for Murray because actually he has the best form but every man from Top 4 has big chances..

Lullaby
01-11-2009, 09:13 AM
one of the big four, probably fed and so I will vote for him

I would love for muzza to begin his haul building but that will depend on other factors such as the draw etc.

With the tightness between the four, it could come down to easiest draw

Halba

murray is clearly the best player right now. he will win 2 or 3 slams this year including wimbledon if fit.

Nadal sucks on hard.
Federer is done.
Djokovic is not in his best form
Murray is favourite.
Dont expect Tsonga to reach aus open final again.
Davydenko is skipping aus open, isn`t he???
Roddick will do well here, but lose to anyone of top4, unless Fed/Rafa/Djok/Murray lose before quaterfinals.
Monfils has got chances to reach 1/4 or even 1/2, but not better.
Cilic will lose before 1/4.
Nalbandian - impossible to predict...
Blake - lose in R4 probably
Del Potro - chances of beating anyone, if he is in form.
Simon - not better than 1/4
As from others, pay attention to Verdasco, Soderling, Fish, Gasquet, Tursunov, Stepanek, Mathieu, Youzhny, Gulbis, Ginepri, Nishikori, Hewitt, Haas, Baghdatis...

No Poll mention either. Strange. Bodes well for his future.

Don't be a pessimist Clydey. I think he has a really good chance. Be an optimist :D
I have voted for him. I'd like Gasquet to regain some form here and have a really good run too (but then I always want that ;))

I think Federer or Djokovic (if survive first tree round and Fed lose before their match).

Murray is clear favorite objectively, but i wouldn`t bet on him...

I'll be boring and predictable and say Federer will win this. Very difficult to pick one though. After Federer, it's any of the other three or Tsonga for me.

Have you absolutely no common sense? How come you put Davydenko (who has pulled out)...and Cilic, who is...well, nobody for now...?
You could have easily put Delpo there, I don't know how he has been playing lately, but he has proved to be a force to reckon....

I think either Murray or Federer will win it. I think a repeat of the US Open is a distinct possibility, because the Fed will simply turn up the heat against Murray and manage a win.

Those saying Murray will crumble if he doesn't win are deranged, he knows he isn't the favourite, how can he be? He's still relatively new to going deep in a Slam.

He's the best player in the world right now, but I still think that it's Fed and Rafa, with Murray and Djokovic behind, as reflected in the rankings.

You could have easily put Delpo there, I don't know how he has been playing lately, but he has proved to be a force to reckon....

Del Potro starts this week,

but he 's clearly underrated.

But for this poll of course I would say the same as the result so far :
1 Murray 2 Federer 3 Nadal 4 Djokovic and 5 probably Tsonga

But the difference for me between these players is quite small, and I think it's really more opened than many think. And the results in Doha prove nothing.

The level will be far better.

There's no way he'll win it now. It's getting to the stage where if he doesn't win the whole thing without dropping a set he'll be tagged as a failure. The expectation is ridiculous.

Muzza does deserve to win the whole thing because he is playing the best tennis right now. The way Roddick was demolished in the final . I still want the Swiss to win the OZ open but Murray deserves it more.

Well, being considered a good contender is one thing - but favourite? Never been past the fourth round in Melbourne, and in contention also is the Defending Champion, the world #1 and 5 time Slam winner, and the 13 time Grand Slam Champion - and the guy who has made one slam final is the favourite?

Yes, Andy's been playing well but...I think it's hard to see a non-slam winner as favourite for a slam before the tournament even begins

Ackms421

No guy. Taylor, Henman, Rusedski were in the extended circle of favorites at some point, but never top 3 or 4.

In the ladies' game though, Anne Haydon-Jones, Virginia Wade and Sue Barker had the status at some point that Murray is approaching now.

HK

P.S.: relatedly, in my sumo-related rankings, Taylor, Rusedski and Henman made it to Sekiwake in their careers (third highest rank), Haydon-Jones, Wade and Barker to Ozeki (second highest). Murray is a Sekiwake now but would become Ozeki is he reaches the semis at the AO.
