THE Slovak Republic's Dominika Cibulkova and Dominik Hrbaty have advanced to the Hyundai Hopman Cup XXI final after Germany's Nicolas Kiefer went down injured, while the United States downed Australia.
The Slovak team will now look to win a third Cup title against the Group B winner to be decided tonight, with Russia, France and Italy all still alive.
Cibulkova and Hrbaty automatically advanced to the final after Kiefer suffered what could be a serious ankle injury early in his men's match.
After Cibulkova downed Sabine Lisicki 7-6 (3), 6-4, the men's match loomed as a decider as to who made the final, and that's exactly how it turned out.
Kiefer, fresh off two tough three-set losses to Lleyton Hewitt and James Blake, started strongly to be up 3-1 and serving for a 4-1 advantage. After serving, he moved forward for a volley but rolled his ankle and was left lying on the court.
He was unable to move for sometime, with fellow Tour veteran Hrbaty lending a generous hand until further attention arrived. From there, Kiefer left in a wheelchair to go to hospital for scans on his ankle.

No idea yet how serious it is - hope he rebounds quickly but it doesn't sound great.

Kiwi :awww: let's hope the injury isn't serious

Domi's into the final...

It was a disappointing finish to what could have been a classic Tie to decide who made the final, but Cibulkova and Hrbaty advance to the final now with wins during the week over the United States, Australia and Germany.

This guy is a clear example, that injuries can ruin a career. I am not particularly fond of him, but on good days he is great to watch.

Well there was an update after about half an hour later on the show and the results weren't looking great. Apparently it is some pretty bad ligament damage. Hopefully it isn't as bad as it is thought to be though.

Kiefer's still hoping for Melbourne, although the chances are very slim. But at least it's not bad as it looks.

Torn two ligaments and he wants to be back in less than 2 weeks?

I doubt it.

when he injured his wrist at Roland Garros he was still hoping to play Halle just 10 days later and he even went there. He ended up being injured for 1 year  poor boy... so much bad luck is just not fair

:scared: The way he hurt his ankle I am not surprised he has 2 torn ligaments,I saw it on TV. I hate anything like that,in an exho too:sad:

There's no way he'll be fit for Oz. I don't think he'll be back for some while. The constant rehab from varying injuries he's suffered,I feel so sorry for him. He barely gets back on court then injury strikes again:sad:

Hope he recovers full strength in the ankle.

Dominik Hrbaty, thanks for your help, care and concern till full medical help arrived for Kiwi.
