Great first set, but then in the second a few UEs led to a break for Hanescu and Kolya just couldn't take any of his own BP... Then Hanescu started to play better and smarter and Kolya got a bit tight, but in the third after a few close games Kolya finally managed to break and then ran away with it ;)

Gave a nice German interview for the German tv as well talking about the Davydenko Academy as well :)

Kolya beat Ferrer 75 76(2) :)

He was a bit off in the first set and couldn't use his many (around 8) bps at all while Ferrer got a break with Kolya serving a df on the start of the game and the end of the game... He was down 2-4 had bp, but didn't convert and then he held to 3-5 where he finally broke back with an inside-in fh winner. He then held and broke once more - this time much more comfortably - and then served out the set.

He then broke again with a drivevolley fh winner, but got broken right back. Then Ferrer was a bit more solid and Kolya didn't attack as much anymore and they just went on rallying untill Ferrer found himself serving for the set at 5-3, but Nikolay broke again at the right moment again and then saved a SP with an ace and went on holding to 5-5.
Kolya hit some great shots to go up 0030 on Ferrer's serve, but then David still managed to hold and Kolya held as well.
In the TB Nikolay played the best tennis of the entire match. He got a minibreak and held his two serves and then got another minibreak to go up 4-0. Ferrer then won a point and Kolya won only one of his 2 service points to go up 5-2. From there he hit a bh dtl winner return and forced Ferrer into error on the next shot to win the match ;)

This is my first time in this forum :wavey: and i am really happy for all of you guys :banana: :bigclap: because Niko is in the finals in Hamburg. Congrats :bounce:

Heading into yesterday’s Hamburg final, Nikolay Davydenko was a strong favourite to take the title in Hamburg over Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu. But for a moment there, it looked like it was going to be a close contest, a toe-to-toe baseline duel of big groundstrokes.

Mathieu came out firing perhaps knowing that anything less wouldn’t cut it against Davydenko, trying to push Davydenko around, to avoid the same being done to him. It was a clash of a similar brand of attacking tennis, rallies traded at lightning pace back and forth.

Mathieu went an early break up, and I was initially surprised that the Frenchman was able to play this brand of tennis and end up on the winning side of those rallies more often than not. He must have been playing right at the peak of his abilities. When I looked at the strengths and weaknesses of both players, it definitely looked like Davydenko was capable of doing everything a little better than Mathieu. Particularly in terms of movement and ability to change directions, not to mention that Davydenko loves to work with the pace he’s given with.

Mathieu’s run of form really only lasted about three or four games or so, and by then Davydenko had started to really find his form and timing. Because of his movement, it’s like Davydenko catches each ball at the top of the bounce, hitting it in the most favourable of positions even when being stretched out wide. But I also like how well he sets up for his strokes, how it seems like by the time he’s making contact with the ball, his feet are firmly planted in the ground, not still recovering from the sprint.

It’s no wonder that he can dash from side-to-side so quickly then when his feet are ready to move the other way as soon as he’s finished his stroke. Because he hits the ball at the top of the bounce, it also enables him better margin on the down-the-line shots that he likes so much, less chance of hitting the net.

It ended up being more of a showcase of Davydenko’s shotmaking from midway in the first set onwards which is where he really started to hit his straps. Consistently creating angles and accurate down-the-line shots to take Mathieu out of the court, and essentially out of the match, helpless to do anything but defend. As well as Mathieu can attack while being on the front foot in a rally, he’s nowhere near as good at turning defense into attack as Davydenko. If he’s stretched out wide, he’s not going to be hitting a down-the-line winner.

What he needed to do was try to keep Davydenko off-balance and limit his offensive options, but that’s a difficult task in itself if you consider how difficult it is to get Davydenko off balance. Davydenko doesn’t compromise as much as other players, he likes to take risks and he can because his movement and footwork is so good. He doesn’t block a whole lot of shots back preferring to take a full swing most times which I think is one reason why his return of serve is so good. He could be on the full stretch returning a serve that lands right on the line, down the T and he’ll still set himself up to take a full swing and return it with interest deep close to the baseline.

There was not a whole lot Mathieu could do, and it ended up being one-way traffic for Davydenko. Unfortunately for Mathieu, he started to run out of ideas after the end of the first set. He occasionally tried to make things happen but he was too far behind the baseline that instead, all he did was make things easier for Davydenko.

In the end, it was a relatively one-sided match for Davydenko after the first four games, which resulted in his first title of the year. His ranking took a hit earlier in the year after injury, meaning that he wasn’t able to defend some of his points, but I’d like to see him start to make a climb up the rankings again and edge closer towards the top 5, where he belongs.

Davy is known for his sense of humour. His atp blogs is always funny. People say he is not good looking because he is balding. But they forget to look at his eyes and his smile. He is gorgeous. ATP World Tour No. 9 Nikolay Davydenko was in devastating form as he won his second ATP World Tour title in as many weeks with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over fifth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero Sunday in the final of the ATP Studena Croatia Open, an ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament in Umag.

Last week, the Russian captured the ATP World Tour 500 title in Hamburg (d. Mathieu) and subsequently regained his position in the Top 10 of the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings. In winning his 10th successive match, Davydenko captured his 16th ATP World Tour title from his 21st final – the sixth best record among active players.

“I played really good in the semi-final and final here, I don't know why, maybe it is luck,” commented Davydenko, who crushed Jurgen Melzer 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday. “Really everything was perfect today. My next tournament is ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Montreal, but right now I just want to enjoy Umag and then I'll think about the American hard-court season later. I hope to come back here again next year."

The victory added further impetus to Davydenko’s campaign to qualify for the year-end Barclays ATP World Tour Finals as he received 250 South African Airways 2009 ATP Ranking points. Last year, when the season finale was held in Shanghai, he reached the final - finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic.

It is the first time in his career that the 28-year-old Davydenko has won back-to-back titles. His one previous effort in successive finals in 2008 saw him triumph at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami (d. Nadal) but finish runner-up at Estoril (ret vs. Federer).

Against former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero, Davydenko picked up where he left off in the semi-finals with a high success rate behind his first serve – winning 23 of 28 points. The Russian combatted losing his own serve once by capitalising on six of 10 break point opportunities on Ferrero’s serve and winning over half (59 per cent) the points on his Spanish opponent’s serve to wrap up victory in 70 minutes.

"It was very tough at the beginning until 3-3 in the first set and then I made the break and continued to play very fast,” assessed Davydenko. “At the start of the second set I could see that he was a little bit tired and losing his concentration so I kept playing good.”

“I had spoken to a few players and I had heard that Davydenko was playing very good all week, moving very fast and hitting a lot of winners,” said Ferrero, who toiled through a two-hour, 38-minute semi-final with Andreas Seppi on Saturday. “I tried to start very aggressively but he was too good in the end today. Maybe I was also a little bit tired in the second set. He played at a really high rhythm from the first point to the last today. I wasn't able to recover as I would have liked after a long three-set match yesterday.”

Davydenko maintained his perfect record of not dropping a set this week. Aside from one tie-break set in the quarter-finals (vs. Bolelli), the Russian has not even been extended past three games in any of the 10 sets he has played during the tournament.

Since suffering a left heel injury in Chennai that interrupted the first three months of his season, Davydenko has hit back strongly – reaching quarter-finals at Roland Garros (l. to Soderling), ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo (l. to Murray) and Stuttgart (l. to Fognini) and posting semi-final efforts at Barcelona (l. to Nadal) and Estoril (l. to Blake). Since the start of Roland Garros, the right-hander has compiled a sizzling 18-3 record alone; he is 30-8 for the season.

The 29-year-old Ferrero was chasing his 13th tour-level title and second of the season, having ended a six-year title drought in April by clinching the Casablanca crown (d. Serra).

The Spaniard has also been in strong form of late, enjoying a stellar grass-court season with a semi-final appearance at London/Queen’s Club and a quarter-final effort at Wimbledon (l. to Murray both times). His efforts have been rewarded with a climb back up from outside the Top 100 of the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings to his current position of No. 36.

“I think I had a very good week this week in Umag,” said Ferrero. “I won some more points, which is important for my ranking and I have a lot of confidence now for the hard-court season. I would like to finish the year in the Top 15."

It is the first time since 2005 (Vienna, Barcelona) that the Spaniard has reached multiple ATP World Tour finals in the same season. In 2003, the right-hander won his lone Grand Slam title at Roland Garros (d. Verkerk) and reached the US Open final (l. to Roddick) to peak at No. 1 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings.
