great start of the season, backhand was as solid as it could be and serve was too good, you know you are in trouble when those two are working early for Fed.

Winners to UE 26/9 :worship:

:woohoo: Nicely done Rogelio!

I only got home in time for match point :o but the commentary sounded like he'd played well.

Roger looking pretty sharp I thought, there - all facets working pretty well, forehand under control, far less silly wild errors, backhand looking pretty good. Good tight performance.

Long since I saw Fed as inspired as this. Keep it going. :D

Still not as good as world number 1

Good performance, very comfortable. His returning was pretty good, occasional wild error from that. Otherwise the backhand was very good, solid forehand.

Should definitely get to the Semis...

:yeah: - and to add: no Mirkaland-games, no :retard: challenges, (very) good movement, good tactics, very aggressive and attacking game.

Agreed, if he keeps that level he might dream of semis here...

Yes, his backhand worked very well today, the service was pretty good (but not his best) as well the forehand, and he had great net points.
I´m happy for Roger.

But the opponent was a lot more difficult then Santoro.

Everything is awesome but he's not putting top-gear heat on his serves. He's placing them well but not top level heat.

It wasn't as bad as the TMC match against Andy Murray (back problems) or the exhibition match he just had. But still hiw fastest serve was 189!!!! I think he's trying to prevent reinjuring his back.

Yeah, he looked good, but it´s easy to play well, when there is no pressure whatsoever, Fed would beat Starace playing with a coke bottle. We´ll see how his real form is when he´s forced to play tougher matches.

Of course, Starace is just one of the many journeymen around, but today's match surely gives reason to think Fed is indeed fully fit again. He played more aggressively than he's done in month's time, his footwork/movement looked good, his BH worked well, etc.
Quite different from his early round performances from the past couple of months. Anyway, like you say - we'll have to see how he'll do against the Big Guys, but I got good hopes after his match of today. :)

I think 189 was his average serve speed.

Ohhh. My bad then. It did seem like he wasn't serving hard.

I think his serve needs a "little" more work.

He's not racking up the aces as he used to, but I think it'll improve with confidence and time. If Roger wins Qatar, his confidence will be pre-08 levels imo.

How accurate are the numbers mentioned for winners to error ratio? If accurate I'd say those are great signs. :p

it's the official stats after the match, Fed was even better than the stats suggest :yeah:

I should add: 4/5 break point conversion rate

I was not doubting your post, it's just that sometimes even the IBM stats can be off. ;) Thanks, and yes the break point conversion is very encouraging. It's usually not this effective, and even if Starace isn't much of a challenge it's still encouraging to see him playing this sharp. :wavey:

The top 4 (except the faker) treat all the other players as if they're just practice partners.

Granted, I didn't watch the match (unfortunately, hopefully someone will put a torrent up), but I'm getting tired of the "best Fed has played in ages". We heard that comment every single time he played a good match in 2008, which he actually did with some frequency. Remember that in the Basel final, he completely and utterly outplayed a top quality opponent (Nalbandian). Surely playing like that facing a top opponent is a more impressive task than doing a demolition job on Starace? Again, I didn't watch the Starace match, so maybe I'm wrong, but Roger has played loads of impressive matches in 2008, he just wasn't as consistent as he used to be.

I'm dying to see him win a title against a top player, yes - the USO was lovely, but it's high time we see him win a little in a best of three format, it would do a lot for his confidence, and quiet the nay-sayers.

If he can get Doha beating Andy and Rafa in a row, it would be fantastic.
