time to retire for Juanqui

this Serra struggled to win a single point in an entire match against Nadal

Disappointing, but "humiliated" is a bit strong - the first match of the year can throw up a few surprises. As long as he's physically fine, I'll hope for better in Auckland next week.

JCF:sad:. I hate to say it, but it looks like it might be time for retirement.

Btw, humiliate is such a strong word. It was only 63 76

I have seen Serra playing before against Nadull and he was one of the biggest mugs I have ever seen in my life. I never imagined this clown Ferrero would find a way to lose. :o

Yes, Serra defeated Ferrero already three years ago. This scoreline isn't surprising.

Happy now?

BTW, it's a humiliation losing to this big French mug IMO.

Serra is a kind of a player who is completely hopeless against the best players but can find a way to beat players like Ferrero, Safin or Hewitt these days

As long as Nishikori beats Reynolds and Clement beats Junqueira all will be ok.

I would think it's more humiliating getting upset about vcash.

He has to defend Auckland final points next week. :o Ferrero was looking much more optimistic this time last year. He just doesn't have it anymore to be a consistent threat.

I think this year will be a telling year for JC. If he doesn't put in some good performances, it may be time to consider retirement. But I definitely think it's premature to be making those comments after just his first match of the season.

I am donating a LM cause and posting in this thread.

Serra is a solid player at his best, in a good way of a meaning of this word. Quick shots and quite diverse. He must have been on last night, and Ferrero, was an overachiever from the mug era, good for a season or two, now would go along with another short time wonder Rainer Schuettler :p.

Since I actually watched this match I thought I'd make the comment that Serra actually played quite well. His shots were there, serve was solid and JCF had no answers (plus a few unforced errors, at all the wrong times).

This is quite similar to the JCF matches (1st ones of the year) I've seen over the years, (except last year) but he still managed to get some wins under his belt at AO. So I think retirement calls are a tad early.

It's time for Ferrero to start focusing more on his cars and tennis club.

His heart is not in it anymore.

If you genuinely mean that, you're a freaking idiot. Ferrero almost won the French Open in his first try when he was 20 - he was just 1 set from the final. In his first four French Opens of his career, he went SF-SF-F-W. He ended the year in the Top 5 between 2001-2003. Oh yeah, he was on top of the world for a while in 2003. Plus he has made at least the quarterfinals at every single Grand Slam - a testament to his skill on all surfaces.

To compare him to Schuettler is retarded.

And "overachiever"... you need to go back and watch a tape of Ferrero from 2002 or 2003. You're probably like 13 years old.

That's true. Ferrero had been playing great tennis 4 years in a row in that period (IMO mainly thanks to obsessive forehand, great footwork and unusual mental strengh) and he began also the season '04 quite well. Then suffered a chicken pox and it was the beginning of the the downhill...

If losing to journeymen is a sign of overachievement then Safin must be the biggest overachiever of all time.
