Andy in Doha

Andy gets the season proper underway this week in Doha, defending the title he won in 2008 (d. Wawrinka).

Also present are Federer, Nadal and Roddick, and Andy will be hoping to score some big scalps on the tour itself this week, having filleted both Federer and Nadal in Abu Dhabi last week :)

He's also entered in the doubles with Ross Hutchins, a good friend and tour doubles player who joined Andy in Miami in December for the gruelling month of training Andy put himself through in the off-season.

Best of luck to Andy this week!

Good Luck Andy :) I can tell I'm already spoiled by his #4 Ranking because now I expect him to be winning Matches while I used to hope he would win Matches.

Scrappy affair from Andy overall, he looked sorta half attending at some points, and a little bit irritable that he wasn't winning easier, but got it done 62 64 anyway in 75 minutes.

He'll want to tighten up the performance going forward though

Will be interesting to see how they match up - Murray defeated Stakhovsky for the Boys Title at the US Open in 04.

They've played once at ATP level, back in 2006 in Davis Cup in Odessa on Clay - Andy won that one.

Good look against Federer tomorrow, Andy - have to say, Federer looks likely to pose a threat, he's looked pretty good this week whereas in Abu Dhabi he looked a little unfocused. Andy will have to play much better and grind Roger down.

I had the same feeling. I hope it isn't a serious problem with his back :awww:
But yay for beating Roger^^

He always looks tired :)

I hope his back is okay though - if he can be fit for tomorrow, will be interesting to see what Roddick and Stefanki can come up with to combat him.

One more match Andy then you can get down to Melbourne and have a relatively gentle practice week.

Muzza :yeah:

He seems to have Fed under control now. I'm a big Federer fan, but I won't say I didn't see Muzza's victory coming.

There is apparently some doubt over whether Murray will take to the court tomorrow, his back continuing to give him some grief :(

I suspect he will try to play, but if it's not good enough then I think he won't risk melbourne and I would expect him to retire.

I hope it's okay for him, though - I'd hate to see that happen, but I don't want him to risk the Australian over it.

hope he a few good massages tonight Nina

i dont want to wake up tomorrow and read he's WD, will be depressing

but on the otherhand, as long as he's 100% for AO

said he felt this back problem last week too, not good for a long 2 week GS with all those matches

I'm really happy for Andy's win over Roger :yippee: But then with that great news came the bad news about Andy's back  And it worries me for Andy's tennis future. Isn't it early in his career for back problems to have already started :scared: I hope if he is not well that he doesn't try to play Rodduck--I mean Roddick :p I know a walk over is a cheap win, but so is a win over an injuried player. And I would rather our Andy not do any more harm to his back.

My what an Anti-U.S. group we have for a U.S. player
I would love for "our" Andy to defeat Rodduck--I mean Roddick, but Andy's back is the most important thing right now.

True. It would be great if Andy could start the season with a title - after he beat Federer again :hearts:
But no.1 priority should be 100% healthy and fit for AO.

Murray manhandled Roddick 64 62 to claim title #9 and cap a pretty damn good 10 days or so :D
