Hi Nathaliia :wavey:

Yeah, I really hope he can (at least) reach the final here. Should be possible if he's on form. Very sensible choice of him to play here - no Big Guns around, so a possible 'easy' (yes I know, it's never 'easy' ;)) way to pick up some points. :)

Are you usually posting on Stan's forum? I actually don't post in player forums, only in Mannarino thread and sometims Monfils, but when I started to use "new posts" tool I found this one active :p.

Yeah Davydenko and Cilic seem the guys to beat, mainly Davy of course. However, I put trust in Kolya he tanks earlier to sponsor his trip to Australia :p

Not that often, but when I know he's gonna play I usually post to wish him luck. Must say that I felt obliged to post some 's as well in the post-Olympics period as he was so clearly out-of-form... hope that's changed by now. I like the fellow!

In the first set it wasn't THAT bad ... but in the second set he completely lost it. He had a lot of chances, but just didn't take them. I think Cipolla didn't play outstanding, but quite good and Stan definitely made too many faults.

Stani and his doubles partner Scherrer just won their match 7-6(5) 6-4. :)

Hopefully he can go further in the doubles and improve his form ready for the singles at Kooyong. Glad he's playing Kooyong, so that at least he's guaranteed some matchplay going into the AO. Hopefully that and the doubles in Chennai will help him be in better shape for the AO.

STANISLAS WAWRINKA

Q. Today's match seemed a little bit one-sided, a lot of errors on the one side. How did you see the match?

A. The match was very good for me. Maybe not so good for him but for me, the first time here in the stadium is pretty nice. It was a little bit difficult with all the wind, but I'm playing very good and I think for the first match it was good.

Q. Were you surprised to play so well on your first match?

A. Maybe a little bit. I think Marcos was not playing very good. He is looking for his confidence, so maybe that's why he was - it was easy, and fast.

Q. What about your confidence, Stanislas? You can match it with all the big players now. Do you have the confidence against any of the players this week?

A. Yeah. I'm looking for more confidence. I'm coming from Chennai. The first match was very bad, the first match of the year. But since I'm here I'm very happy. I'm practising good and, yes, I think it's the best preparation for me to play here against the top players, and to look how your game is.

Q. You mentioned briefly yesterday what effect practising with someone like Roger Federer had on your own development?

A. Sorry?

Q. You mentioned briefly yesterday that practising and hitting with Roger had a big impact on your development. How much more has it actually been in tournaments like this, playing with Roger for the first time in a tournament like this? Does that give you a lot more confidence on the court?

A. We will see for the moment. I just won against Marcos and I think I'm playing against Ljubicic or Gonzalez. I will see after that.

Q. How do you feel about those two? I know you're 0 and 5 against Gonzalez, and Ljubicic has also beaten you three times?

A. Yeah. We will see. I think I'm very better player since last year so we can be very different, and it's still the preparation for the next tournament so I think we can try a lot of things during the match.

Q. Stanislas, have you thought about Davis Cup now you are in the World Group? You've got a very good team, Switzerland. Have you thought about that much?

A. Yes, of course. When you have Roger in the team it's a very good team. But we play against the States, in the States. It's going to be very difficult, you know, against Roddick, Blake, Fisch, the Bryant brothers. But I'm very happy. It's a very nice challenge to go there and to try the best we can.

Q. Okay. Thank you very much.

A. Thank you.

gutted for stan. he started out so well too, up 3-0 in the first set. Granted berdych stepped up his game starting from the second set but i wonder what happened to stan that he combusted spectacularly in the second set... it messed up with his confidence IMHO. he tried to get back in the fourth and for a while looked good but ultimately couldn't hold iit.

I don't get stan's game today. he was blowing hot and cold throughout, one moment he hit a superb winner, the next he messed up the easy shots. gutted for him, especially considering for a while his forehand and backhand worked really well, and I was hoping for a Roger v STan match up in the 4th round...:(.

Better luck next time, Stani

Yeah overall, I felt it was a quite frustrating match to watch. Like a lot of Stan matches, it was up and down but there were moments when his FH and Bh were both really on. He really needs to improve his consistency but I don't really he needs to believe more in his abilities, sometimes he seems too humble for me and is fragile in key moments. Credit to Tomas though, he certainly raised his game and dictated the play.
Wish Stan better consistency and self-belief in coming matches.

Rough loss today, the Bryans were just too good when it counted. Stan played awesome though, really happy with the form he's been showing in this tie! Shame Yves didn't get into more before the 3rd set. Some of Stan's clutch volleys were just great in that 2nd set, he did such a good job to keep it to a 1 break deficit.

Give Andy a hard battle tomorrow, Stani :rocker2: but either way I'm very proud of the performance he's put in this tie. Fire it up One more time.sorry, nicked that silly phrase from the J-block lol.

well, that's a sucker punch right to the gut for stan. after a solid performance the past two days, it's sad that he has to lose in straight sets.

I was just so upset watching the third set I couldn't watch it properly - quite heartbreaking to see stan like that... and I'm not even Swiss! I think the swiss davis cup team gets a bit too close to my heart...

Once again stan shows his inconsistencies and I think time and again it shows that when the stakes are very high, he doesn't really have the mental strength to prevail. it's mostly disappointing because throughout the first set, he showed that he was consistently doing great backhands and forehands (there were times when he took his forehand just like roger, seriously), and he was only broken because his own fault. but then he lost confidence once being broken properly in the second set, and pretty much crumbled in the third ...

ah well, there's still a whole tournament year ahead - he can learn and be stronger throughout this year, get to the top eight like he aims to do, and well, who know, maybe a better DC campaign next year with the swiss team, with or without roger.

great match by andy tbf, can't take anything away from his game today. he's just, well maybe annoyed me a bit because obviously i want stan to win... :p

ah well, i'll get over it tomorrow when the IW starts. hope stan will shrug off this DC disappointment and have a good tournament.

onwards and upwards - Allez, Stani <33!

PinkFeatherBoa
03-08-2009, 09:45 PM
I agree with all that. Just generally frustrated right now. Obviously, it was a tough tie and a tough ask today after 2 tight matches already this weekend, he needed to maintain such a high mental strength throughout this whole tie, so naturally when Roddick applied the pressure today, he lapsed. Andy is a great closer when it comes to DC and it showed today.

Wish Stani all the best for IW, I'm sure there's a lot of good tennis to come from him this year!

Nymeria
03-08-2009, 09:48 PM

it was pretty sad when luthi tried to gee stan up, shouting "allez, Stan, allez!!!", but you just could see stan was a goner. it was a pretty painful match to watch - not because it lacks quality cos some of the rallies were awesome, but because watching stan like that is just...:sad:.

i hope stan isn't too knackered for IW. and that this disappointment dóesn't stay with him and he can have some optimism/positive mind for the tournamnet! I really want him to be inside the top tem by the end of this year.

i kind of wonder what the problem with his left shoulder is - it did look like it bothered him, especially in the later sets cos some of his tosses seemed a bit off.

Fair enough, my comment was more directed at the 1st set. What I find irritating about Stan's matches is what a slow starter he is, he really can't afford to come out like he did today against Novak and yesterday vs. Querrey because the better players are always going to expose that normally.

I hope he does better in Miami too but first things first, I want an Indian Wells doubles title. :)

yeah stan is a frustratingly slow starter - and not to mention he needs time to get his first serve to work. the first half of the first set was just unpretty from both players, made all the more frustrating by stan...

really tough loss. that second set could've gone either way, even when rafa broke back. but stan has never been good in tiebreaks, so yeah...

it was a very, very entertaining match and I'm glad stan proved that he can challenge rafa properly. everyone predicted a roll over and comfortable win for rafa but stan really turned up from the first game and, despite his UE, played very well. it's just his inability to kill the game when it matters that endlessly frustrate me.

anyway. i barely could watch the last game and the tiebreak lol. I was so tense it's not even funny.

chin up, stanley. if there's such thing as a good loss, then well, this is one of those. nothing to be ashamed of, and the crowd adores and loves him tonight.

Still so proud, hope Stani remembers all the positives from this, so he can have a great clay season!
