I know its not funny that Kei is injured, but the way you worded that was funny. If JC and Ferrer meet that would be one hell of a good match. Anyway regardless of who wins, I can't wait to see Ferrer at the Australian Open next week. I hope he does well, and I'll have plenty of photos for you all.

I certainly won't complain if the two would meet in a match.:) Have loads of fun at the AO, I'm very very jealous. I have to wait until March to see some live tennis.

David plays doubles with Marcel Granollers in Auckland. They are 4th on cc on Tuesday against the local boys, the Statham brothers.

Ferrer overcomes tough battle in Auckland

Top seed David Ferrer will face fellow former champion Philipp Kohlschreiber in the Auckland Open quarter-finals on Thursday after both survived tough second round matches.

Ferrer, the 2007 champion and current world number seven, needed almost 2-1/2 hours to beat rising German star Tobias Kamke 3-6 7-6 6-4, while Kohlschreiber was also forced to three sets before he prevailed 6-4 3-6 6-2 over Spain's Marcel Gronollers.

Ferrer was blown away in the first set in just 35 minutes by the 24-year-old Kamke, who won the ATP Tour's Newcomer of the Year award last year when he improved from 254th in the world to number 67.

Kamke fought hard in the second set, running the Spaniard ragged across the baseline but Ferrer managed to force a tiebreak, which he ran away with 7-1.

He then broke Kamke in the ninth game of the third set, and despite being 0-30 down while serving for the match, fought back to seal it with an ace and said he expected just as tough a match against Kohlschreiber.

"When I've played with Kohlschreiber it's a tough match. He plays with great power and he's difficult to play with in the rallies," Ferrer said.

"I need to be very focused and receive very good. I think it will be a very physical match."

Thanks for the link iram. Whew... he looks sooo tired there. I know the players are obliged to do pressers, but the poor guy looks like he's just come off court and pulled a new t-shirt on! Whatever - he still looks 200% HOT

He, he - Linda, I like Tommy, but I absolutely adore hot and feisty gorgeous Ferru :p

And he was right - it was another toughie against Kohlschrieber, pity he couldn't have got the tiebreak, but he won and yes, a win is a win!! A clash with Nalby looks ever closer (perhaps I'd better go and force feed him those mussels ;))

That's probably why most players aren't big fans of doing pressers. And answering the same questions over and over again. I do think that David looks a lot more relaxed than he used to. He was always sooooooooo shy.

Ferrer Wins Meeting Of Past Champs

In a quarter-final meeting between past Heineken Open champions, top seed David Ferrer prevailed against eighth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3 in two hours and 43 minutes Thursday.

Ferrer, the 2007 winner, went up a decisive break at 4-2 in the third set as he proceeded to defeat 2008 titlist Kohlschreiber for the sixth time in nine encounters. The two champions were also supposed to face off in the quarter-finals two years ago at this ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament when Kohlschreiber withdrew prior to the match with a shoulder injury.

World No. 7 Ferrer, who contested five finals in 2010, will face Santiago Giraldo in the semi-finals after the Colombian caused a second upset in as many days as he ousted seventh-seeded Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-2, 6-4 in 78 minutes. In the second round he had defeated fourth seed Albert Montanes.

The No. 64-ranked Giraldo, who broke into the Top 100 last year, reached the quarter-finals at the Brisbane International (l. to Anderson) to start the 2011 ATP World Tour season last week.

Hi. I just wanted to thank you all for your warm welcome. I do come to this section sometimes to see updates from time to time. You ALL sound so friendly and joyful. I will make a better attempt this year to be on mens forum. (you can tell by my # of posts I am not frequent here) My husband only cheers on Federer so it's hard for me to discuss Ferrers matches with him.

Secondly, I don't mean to "bombard" this thread with David videos (and I'll stop if they are not wanted) but I saw this video and loved it. Just watch it. (I love his flipflops-they're cool but limit the challenge given to him)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr-xBIySmLY&feature=player_embedded

I really hope he wins tomorrow in the Battle of Davids. Have a lovely weekend. (I know this sounds like a dumb ?, but does anyone else like his flipflops?)

Ohhhh how sweet is he here? This made me giggle so much! Plus a lovely sight of THOSE LEGS  Ha! He'd have done much better if he'd taken the flip-flops off!

Thanks for posting it Iram. David's always game for these extra events isn't he?

Remember the pink flip flops from the 2010 Elle photoshoot?

Yup, I got the mussels ready! The oop is out and the Davids' match starts "not before 2pm" after the doubles final (VAMOS Tommy & Marcel for that one!). At least David had an easier match with Giraldo and he'll be able to get some rest in.

So much more comfortable in interviews now that his english is a wee bit better;) Cute. And Iram ( do you have a name you like to be called? ) videos are just fine. And I have a hubby and kids who think watching tennis is for the birds;) They have no favs. Both kids play it although not very well. And at one point they were cheering on my fav doubles team but those days are long gone :p

Nice video. Yep, much more comfy now that his English is better. If only he'd hire me, I could make him feel super comfy. Iram don't worry about posting videos, pictures or anything else David related (or not:)), us Ferrer forum girls aren't so fussy. Pretty much anything goes.

I'd like David to know thought that I'm seriously disappointed in his "keepy upsy" attempt. Come on mister, you can surely do better than that?! Why keep the flip flops on? :(

My husband loves tennis, we both also play. I'm better of course. So we watch a lot of tennis together which is great. He also likes Ferru, thinks he's kinda cool actually.:D

Auckland Saturday Preview

One of the closest rivalries on the ATP World Tour will resume in the final of the Heineken Open on Saturday, as David Ferrer takes on David Nalbandian for the ATP World Tour 250 title in Auckland.

Ferrer, the top seed and a champion at this event in 2007, went to three sets in his first two matches but showed his most impressive form of the week in the semis, beating first-time ATP World Tour semi-finalist Santiago Giraldo in an hour and 14 minutes, 63 75.

Nalbandian, the No. 6 seed, hasn't dropped a set all week but also saved his best tennis for the semi-finals, dispatching No. 2 seed Nicolas Almagro 64 62.

This is the 12th meeting between Ferrer and Nalbandian, and although Ferrer leads their series, 6-5, Nalbandian has been in control of their rivalry as of late, winning their past three meetings and four of their past five (and in the one loss Nalbandian has suffered in their past five meetings, he held match point). Nalbandian has a winning record in finals (11-10) while Ferrer has a losing mark (9-10).

"When we play together it’s always a very tough match," Nalbandian said. "Long rallies... It's going to be the same as the rest of the matches we've played before. I have to keep playing my way, my level, and try to win."

"I need to have a good percentage with my first serve because he returns really well," Ferrer commented. "If I don't serve well I will have a lot of problems, because Nalbandian is a very aggressive player."

Thrilled that Ferru won Auckland but surprised at the score. Thought it would be much more competitive or do the scores not reflect the quality of the match?

Imram, yet another welcome to the forum from me and thank you so much for the two videos. The woman interviewing him in the second video was quite attractive and he was quite shy with her. I thought the eight upsies or whatever they called it with the ball was respectable from David considering the flip flops. But he was a bit embarrassed at his poor score and looked cute saying he'd try to to a better job with the match. He also answers everything straight up like when he was asked which Daveed would win and he said "I'll try for Ferrer" - always liked that about him - he never sends a snide answer back - and it's not because of his English. He probably doesn't do it in Spanish either.

Nice lad. Nice win. Keep them videos coming Imram!!!!

Doubles - Final

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID

Ferrer: “It’s very special. When I won here [in 2007] it was my first hard court title and to win it for a second time four years later is special because it’s more difficult now with the pressure and expectation. I like a lot to play the second week of the season here; I like the tournament a lot, the people support me a lot.

“Of course I am with confidence after winning a tournament; the next tournament I will go in with confidence in my game and my mentality.

“I think David did not have a good day. He played a little bit badly in the second set. Maybe it was the key in the first set at 3-3 when I went a break up and won the set. He lost concentration. I thought I played very consistently and I did my job.”

Nalbandian: “He played better than me. I had some chances in the beginning of the first set, but couldn’t take them. Sometimes I missed easy shots and I tried risks that didn’t work.

“I think it was a very good week. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes you play good and lose, sometimes you play bad and win. Sport is like that. Today I lost. I will try to play better every day.”

Carol96

Thx for the citation Alisia. D'you know... I don't think I've ever heard David say a bad thing about an opponent - limited English or not. I just don't think it's in his nature... Now HE REALLY is a humble champion more than anyone else (and yes, in the face of derision / opprobium, I do include the Top Two in this estimation, as D appears to accept his "limits" more than anyone else, but I think these limits possibly more mental than anything else.)

Before anyone brings on the big guns, let me say, I really admire what Rafa and Roger have brought to tennis, but, it's David who raises my spirits, who stirs my blood... Rafa and Roger are on a different planet, but Ferru's HUMAN, with all the human faults and he fights so goddam hard every day and is so gentle and lovely with it...
Hope you folks can understand what I'm getting at... Don't mean to upset anyone. :wavey:

Ferrer Wins Battle Of Davids, Clinches 10th Title

World No. 7 David Ferrer won his 10th ATP World Tour title on the eve of the Australian Open as he halted David Nalbandian’s hot streak in Auckland with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the Argentine in the final of the Heineken Open on Saturday.

Four years ago at the ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament in Auckland, the 28-year-old Ferrer won his first ATP World Tour hard-court title with victory over Tommy Robredo.

“It’s very special,” declared Ferrer. “When I won here [in 2007] it was my first hard court title and to win it for a second time four years later is special because it’s more difficult now with the pressure and expectation. I like a lot to play the second week of the season here; I like the tournament a lot, the people support me a lot.

“Of course I am with confidence after winning a tournament; the next tournament I will go in with confidence in my game and my mentality,” added the Spaniard, who faces Jarkko Nieminen in the first round of the Australian Open.

The top seeded Ferrer was strong on serve throughout the week, holding 93 per cent of his service games in the lead up to the final, and he continued that trend against Nalbandian, saving all three break points he faced. In overturning a three-match losing streak against the Argentine, Ferrer broke serve three times from five opportunities and wrapped up victory in 68 minutes.

Record-breaker Ferrer wins fourth Auckland title

World number five David Ferrer completed his Australian Open preparations by entering the record books with his fourth Auckland Open title.

The 30-year-old's 7-6 6-1 demolition of 2008 Auckland champion Philipp Kohlschreiber in 78 minutes ensured the Spaniard joined Australia's Roy Emerson as the only four-time winners of the title.

Ferrer won his first Auckland title in 2007 and has won the last three editions of the tournament.

His victory ensured he become the second player, after Emerson, to win the title in three successive years. The Australian won his four titles in 1960 and then again from 1965-67.

"It was amazing for me to win here. Four times now, I can say this is my favourite tournament for sure," said Ferrer.

"Of course it is never easy to win an ATP tournament - and to win four times, is more difficult. I want to enjoy this moment because it is very special to me."

Ferrer will now travel to Melbourne for the Australian Open where he meets Belgium's Olivier Rochus in the first round.
