Want to know because I am writing an article and want to see what other ppl think...

Appreciate it guys

If you are interested, a friend of mine recently opened a good Australian tennis blog:

Given recent form...Murray, maybe?

Djokovic would be 2nd favorite followed by Nadal then Federer.

I'd be on the lookout for Simon, Tsonga and Nalbandian as well.

Well it is a hardcourt slam so Federer is still my favorite, the guy has done extremely well in those the last few years. Then come both Murray and Djokovic I think.

Safin may suprise everyone.

I think Nadal will win it!!

Federer and Djokovic behind him!

Theres gonna be alot of prussure on Murray now with reaching his 1st Grand Slam Final in New York, He wont make the Semis IMO

Tsonga, Nalbandian, Gasquet & might suprise!

I wouldn't. It's getting boring now. We need a few suprises to liven things up. Besides, Roger-Rafa is hardly the dream matchup on a hardcourt.

Its difficult to say and to be honest is difficult even after the first two weeks of the tour.

My instinct tells me it will be one of top four with the yearly surprise finalist being Simon or Cilic.

I think that Fed will win this without any major problems , only if Murray loses before 1/2 final.
I don't see Djoko nore Rafa winning against him.
Especially Djoko who is still in southern France (at least he was last sunday, oppening footbal game in Monaco) , doing promotionals and thinking more about party.
It depends of the draw in any case, if Fed gots Djoko in his draw he will reach the final no problem.

Fed is still the favorite everywhere he goes (except for the clay tournaments with Nadal) so he's the most likely candidate. Followed closely behind is Djokovic and then I'd throw in Murray, Nadal, Tsonga, Roddick & Simon. I'd personally love to see Novak defend his first Slam.

Fed's still the favourite by far (if his back won't be bothering him again :o).
Other premier candidates: Muzza & Djoko.
Rafa might well have a good chance as well, if he doesn't run into some red-hot black horse again like last year - and there are plenty candidates around on HC...

Talking about black horses: as much as he was exactly that last year, this year Tsonga's not - if he keeps up the form he showed at the end of the 2008 season, I'd surely put him among the favs to make it far yet again. :D

But in all: it's too early to say anything sensible yet.

Federer or Murray. I see no any other candidates for the title. First one will go to prove the last year's fault was just because of unlucky circumstances; second one will going to prove he can will a GS title, coz he really have the game to do it.

Lol did you watched this year US open and Masters cup? After his match with Federer he looked literally dead tired in the semis vs Davydenko, same thing at the USO final, after his match with Nadal.Yes he can play some long matches but he needs longer time to recovery between two tought matches then any other top 10 player.Thats why i have some doubts about his ability to win a slam.Djokovic for example is exactly opposite,he have problems playing long matches, but needs less time to recovery after one.

If Nadal has a good draw, he has a good chance to make it far. For now, I'll cautiously say Djokovic is the current favorite right now, but there are a LOT of ifs that will come into play here, moreso than any other GS.

Which is why the AO is my favorite.

I think we all would agree it would be a massive surprise if someone out of the top 4 won it.

Given an even draw I think the top 4 can contest the semi's. Then, well depends on the draw.

I'd like to think Murray can win but beating 2 of Rafa, Fed and Nole in 2/3 days will be hard.

It's way to early to tell. It depends on the form of the players during the tournament and also on the draw. Murray had a great run the last months, but on the other hand he was 2 points away from losing to Melzer at the USO. Djokovic finished the season with a victory at the TMC, but has never defended a title in his career as far as I know.
It has to be seen how Nadal will start into the new season and if everything will be ok with his knees. He had a comfortable draw at the AO this year.
Roger had always good results in Melbourne and the best of 5 matches suit him. Hopefully his back is fully ok. He should be fine then.

And you call your self a fan [/disgusted].

So because I'm a Federer fan I should lose all objectivity? His form absolutely sucks right now and I put him as maybe 6th favorite after:

Nadal
Djokovic
Murray
Tsonga
Simon

No I think I have mentioned before that its completely OK to criticise him...after all facts are facts and we can't be blinded by the truth. But to say he is 6th favourite for the slam is completely outrageous and out of this world. Its pathetic to say the least. The guy who has won the last slam and 5 in a row US Opens is not even being counted as ONE of the favourites?!

You have no faith or belief in a great talent do you? Its called a slump. Get it?

Or shall I use a quote that you may not have head of?

"form is temporary, class is permanent"

You go cheer on Nadal for all I care but don't go round telling people off for believing in a certain player. You may have an opinion and you are of course entitled to it. You're 31 for gods sake act like one.

I have to agree with the others i havnt really gotten you since i joined this forum. First of all why do you call yourself a fan of Roger? I think you are more like an insult to him. About the objectivity i see hardly any. You are intitled to an opinion but dont go be a hypocrite cos people will see right through you. If you say you are a fan of Roger and you make the above statement you are clearly looking for trouble. How does his form absolutely suck? He won the Us Open for crying out loud! An believe me he is on top of your little list. Just do yourself and everyone else a favor and change your username, your an embarresment to fans of Roger and Roger himself!

I reckon Djokovic V Federer final as long as they can stay in opposite halves with Djokovic retaining his title, i feel that the surface and tournament on the whole suits him immensley.

Simon scares me because aside from Nadal I've never seen a player so rock solid from the baseline. His ground strokes just do not break down if he is not too fatigued. He hits the ball flatter then Nadal, so he's probably the #1 threat to Roger on hardcourts right now.

Obviously Federer is still the biggest favourite. He has only been beaten by Djokovic in a hardcourt slam in the last 3 years... And he was sick then. Murray, Djokovic Nadal don't have what it takes to beat him in 5 sets on a hardcourt.

He was suffering from a rather common illness. I think it's called "I'm not getting any younger" disease.

And Djokovic doesn't need to beat Federer in 5 sets if he can do it in 3.

Yeah... considering Federer made the last 3 GS finals and won the last one, it would really be a huge surprise.

Hi guys

With the upcoming season fast approaching, I am interested in your(serious) opinions about who you think will win AO 2009 and why?

Want to know because I am writing an article and want to see what other ppl think...

Appreciate it guys

If you are interested, a friend of mine recently opened a good Australian tennis blog:
http://newballspleaseblog.blogspot.com/

On my blog of the 16 people that voted 14 thinks Roger will win, one thinks Roddick, and one thinks Murray. The people have spoken

I'd go with Fed. He's highly motivated to surpass the 14+ GS title record this year. However, it won't be an easy path for him to reach the final since AO is the most tricky major, in which so many surprises have happened.

I guess you didn't notice I was being sarcastic. And why despise someone for a valid excuse? Or do you despise Rafa, Nole, etc. for that reason as well?

no,but do we know something more?what doctors.proofs!

Why such a fuss about it? Are you telling me that you think that players are super-humans who aren't 'allowed' to fall ill?

"Illnesses" are highly frown-upon by the ATP.

Yeah, and if I believe what's said about the 'new' rules in regards to the ranking points, the ATP has more or less decided to PUNISH players who are ill/injured... bunch of ploinkers! :o
