Federer vs Nadal-Who Owns Who?

Im sure this topic must have been brought up here before but without me having my say, so here goes. If you look at the stats it would appear that Rafa clearly owns Rodge. The head to head is currently 12-6 in favor of Rafa to be exact. So it would appear that Rafa owns Roger, but far from it. Ten of their eightenn meetings have been on clay, where not surprisngly Rafa has won nine of those. On grass Rodge leads Rafa 2-1 and on hard 3-2. So in fact Rodge leads as far as the battle of the surfaces go. Its just that Rafa is the best clay courter of all time and most of their meeting have been on clay.

Whats more is that Rodge has won 13 grand slams and Rafa only 5. In the end id say Rodge would at least win double the amount of slams that Rafa does, making him clearly the better player. The thing is Rafa is an animal, the way he carries himself on court, where Roger is a gentleman. So its a really interesting rivalry. You can read more about that here (http://www.squidoo.com/Roger-Federer-vs-Rafael-Nadal-Tennis-Greatest-Rivalry). So in the end i'd have to say the rivalry is pretty close, even though it doesnt apear that way, and Rodge will go down in history as a better player for sure.

Its not to early cos Roger is the greatest of all time, and therefor owns Rafa.

First of all welcome to MTF :wavey:

It's true, there are already a lot of threads about this topic and if you want to leave a comment you can search for them via the search function :)

Whats more is that Rodge has won 13 grand slams and Rafa only 5.

You can't compare this as Roger is a few years older ;) It's impressive what kind of career Rafa had for his age so far. Nobody knows how much more GS titles he is going to win, but who would have thought some years back he would ever win Wimbledon for example? Nadal had great results on all surfaces, even though he hasn't won a GS title on a fast court (yet).

I think the title of your thread is a bit misleading. Nobody owns the other :)Nadal is a bad match-up for Roger, especially on clay, but even on that surface they had a few close matches which Roger could have won (like the Rome final 2006). On the other hand Rafa could have already beaten Roger in Wimbledon last year.

It's surely an advantage for Rafa considering the h2h that they meet so often in a claycourt final, but he has shown in matches on other surfaces as well that he is a player who causes Roger trouble.

I hear ya but Rafa wont last much longer. He had his best season of 2008 in his career, it wont get much better for him. He puts too much of an effort into his game and already he is injured. Rafa will keep doing well at the french but he start struggling eventually physically. Roger's career will be much longer cos of his economic and effortless style. Rafa is just a workhorse, he will brake down mark my words.

It's a tough question IMO 13>12 and 6>5 so Roger wins.

The talking about Rafa not lasting longer are brought up nearly every year ;)

It's true he is getting older and we have seen the difficulties of other players who based their game on their physis, but you also have to consider that this years season was long and Rafa will probably take better care of his schedule next year.

I doubt that even he thinks he can improve the season he had this year. He won 2 GS tournaments, was in the SF of the other 2, won the Olympic Gold medal and reached the #1 ranking.

We have seen how easy it is for a player to get physically into trouble, even for someone who plays so economic as Roger.

this is really getting ridiculous, whats a matter with you people?

as soon as rafa matured, he took everything away from fed he possibly could. everything that was up to him (and not the knees, exaustion etc) he did. not to mention complete humiliation at FO this year, disastrous h2h for the so called goat and all... look at the age, look at their respective GS finals opponents, and you'll get the picture. really, this is a non-question!

Ok ill admit Rafa has surprised me and he deserves a lot of credit as i have given him in my blog. He has dominated Fed this year in all respects. But Fed did have his worst season to date and i expect him to do better in 2009. Even Sampras said that Rafa is not going to last as long as Fed and you must respect his opinion. It just makes sense that Rafa will break down, having said that i do respect him a lot and he can probably win like 3 or 4 more FO's.
