Thanks for all the songs Nicofan-well all except the Alivn and the Chipmunks anyway :scared: I never developed a fondness for their music :p.....But nothing says Christmas like a Billy Squire song though :rolls: What fun! When Mtv and I were young (I need a "wistful" smiley here  )

I will have to think of songs I like and post some links too :)

sorry I just don't like christmas songs  I can deal with people being really excited about this season but listening Christmas songs during the whole month is definetly not my thing  so I'm sorry, I can't think about any Christmas song that I like because there's no such thing for me :rolls:

NicoFan
11-30-2008, 02:12 PM
I know, the Alvin and the Chipmunks pick was lame, but they keep playing them on the radio here (it's a all Christmas music weekend!) and I think they are cute with that song. :o

Love the retro MTV too - I miss those days on MTV when they actually played music. It's such a bad station now.

Kid - you are too funny! Hopefully you'll find one here that you'll like eventually. :yeah:

Here is a video from one of my favorite movies, "Love Actually". The song itself is "crap" as Billy Mack says but its also hilarious. Plus there is plenty for the guys to like ;)

I know, it's been ages since I stop watching MTV, now it's just a channel with pure crap on it :o

Good luck with the Xmas tree NicoFan ;) I'll have to start working on that soon, the difficult part about all that is to start looking for all the boxes with the decorations

Sparko1030

Another good one Nicofan  Of course Bruce rocks :rocker:

Kid, you need something to get you in the holiday spirit but what would that be since you don't like Christmas music? Too bad there is no chance of you getting some snow to get you in the mood of Christmas

Sparko1030
12-02-2008, 04:07 PM
OK, here's my contribution for today(Nicofan, you should have never gotten me started on this  ) This is a blast from the past-and its fun to see who you can recognize and who is still around today. One thing makes me a little sad about this video is that not much has changed in Africa in the 25 yrs following this video but that is a subject for another time :awww:

NicoFan
12-03-2008, 12:00 AM
Oh, another great one! :yeah:

Sorry, but isn't this fun?!?!

And yes, it is sad that nothing much has changed in Africa. It's so sad to watch everything going on there knowing there's not much individually we can do. One thing for Bush is that he helped Africa a lot.

Oh a more upbeat note though - here's a silly Christmas song - Rudolph!!! You can't have Christmas without Rudolph leading the way.

Sparko1030
12-03-2008, 03:41 AM
LOVE RUDOLPH Nicofan!!! :bounce: (and yes, this is alot of fun ;) )I expected the Burl Ives version but that was the original Gene Autry version :yeah: I think the cartoon is on tomorrow night (on ABC)-Although I will be watching the Christmas at Rocerfeller Center on NBC becuase David Cook is suppose to be on  (I can watch Rudolph later since we have the video :D )

Oh, and did you get your tree up yet Nicofan?

Sparko1030

Sparko which exactly is the christmas wish, to be rich or to have someone to decorate your house for you? :aplot: :rolls:

Both!!! But if I can only have one then it would be rich (or richer anyway :p ) If I was rich then I wouldn't have to wish for someone to decorate for me, I could just pay someone to do it

Jaztheman
12-03-2008, 07:44 AM
I love that song Sparko. :(

The main things about christmas though is watching Home Alone and Jingle All The Way. Awesome films that are shown every year at christmas time. Must admit I was a little disheartened by last years Christmas Day television but I'm sure this year will be better. Putting the Christmas tree up on Saturday which will no doubt be a lot of fun. :D

Christmas is awesome.

NicoFan

Welcome Jaztheman. :) And especially welcome to someone who loves Christmas!

I love watching Home Alone I and II at Christmas time too. :yeah: It wouldn't be Christmas without them. Those and of course It's a Wonderful Life. I've never seen Jingle All the Way - I'll have to watch it this year.

Sparko - I should have posted the Burl Ives one instead...what was I thinking? And thanks for the heads up on Rudolph on TV tonight. :yeah:

I would like to be rich too. (Though I can't say I like rich people too much. :tape:) Then I could do what I love all day long: read and watch tennis.

And the Christmas tree goes up tonight. :yeah:

Oh and forgot - I probably won't watch Rockefeller Center because it always makes me feel bad that they kill a tree just for one season. It is pretty though.

Sparko1030

:wavey: Welcome fellow Christmas enthusiasts Jaztheman! I love "Home Alone"! Like Nicofan I've never seen "Jingle all the Way" either but I will have to now  Have fun putting your tree up Sat!:yippee: And Nicofan, you have fun tonight

I will assume your tree is artificial Nicofan  We always get real trees- but unlike those really big ones, they grow these on farms just for sale at Christmas so it doens't bother me (otherwise I am tree hugger  )

Side note: This is funny-just now on a local morning news show, they just interviewed a tree farm owner and he said tree farms are like oxygen factories

Haha, there's lots of us Christmas lovers around, it Just seems that the non-Christmas lovers are growing! We better keep spreading the love. ;)

Home Alone I and II are Just awesome films. They have something about them that never make them old and no matter how many times you watch them they Just seem more and more awesome. Jingle All The Way has Arnold Shwarzaneger in it so it is automatically fantastic, so I'd definitely recommened it this Christmas. :yeah:

Don't know whether I have seen It's A Wonderful Life, but I'll look out for it this year. Cheers for the heads up.

Tree farms are like oxygen factories?

Also cheers for the welcome, guys.

NicoFan
12-03-2008, 05:34 PM
My tree is artificial...but it still looks nice. I'm kind of a nut when it comes to trees - just like Christmas, I love them. :o (I'm sure there are those who say I'm a bit of a nut about more than trees and Christmas but that's besides the point.) I'm definitely a tree hugger.

Hmmm...tree farms as oxygen factories? I don't like the idea, but they may have a point. Supposedly forestry including tree cutting can be good. Just hate the idea of cutting down a poor little innocent harmless tree. :rolls:

Jaztheman - if you like old movies, you'll like It's a Wonderful Life. Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. Also if you like to cry at movies, because I always cry at the end...big time.

I love Arnold so I'll definitely rent Jingle All The Way. :yeah:

The sign of a great movie is if you cry at some point of the movie. ;) That's how I rate chick flicks...if I don't cry, it doesn't get high marks.

And I love Kindergarten Cop - one of my favorite movies of all time. :yeah: (Even though I didn't cry once during the film.).

I love both of those songs Nicofan-thanks for the links! I will listen to them tomorrow though since its getting late and I'm trying to get to bed earlier these days  Also tomorrow, I am going to see if David's Cook's performance is on youtube yet and post that link. I'll try to remember to take a pix of the famous tree. It's a little one though....cute, but small. Only two feet, and I put it on the table.

Shoot, I missed David Cook. I switched a few times between Rudolph and Rock Center, and everytime I put on Rock Center, I got singers like the Jonas Bros and Miley Cyrus. It goes without saying that I quickly switched back to Rudolph. ;)

And yeah, there were some dull acts on besides David last night. I have an artificial tree (:ras: to them for calling it a fake tree) because I'm a treehugger, not because I won't (or can't) spend the money to buy a real one.

Sparko - I like the old ornaments too :yeah: but I break things easily  so I figure I'll just keep them safely stored away. So I started buying the wooden ornaments and use them primarily now. Also some handmades ornaments too.

And hey get two trees for all your ornaments!! One for the living room and one for the family room.

Two trees would be a good solution if we had a living room and a family room, but those rooms are the same room in our house  I know how you feel about the old ornanments-wooden ones are a good choice instead :yeah: On, and they should have had a treehugger catagory Nicofan! Okay my song for the day. David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing "Little Drummer Boy":

I had forgotten about the Bing Crosby/David Bowie duet! What a strange pairing yet it works :yeah:

One of my favorite Christmas songs is "O Holy Night" but I don't have a favorite version by anyone so I was just looking through all the versions on Youtube and found this one. The only thing is when I saw "Studio 60" I just thought it was a reoreded in some studio by that name but its from the short lived drama by the same name. Despite my confusion, this is an awesome instrumental  gave me goodsebumps.....

Oh, thanks for posting. O Holy Night is my favorite too!

I'll listen to it later today.

(And I remember Studio 60 - it got a lot of excellent critical reviews, but no one watched it. Kind of like most of my fav shows (and your Pushing Diasies))

In this part of the world is really hard to have any christmas spirit when is summer and you have to stand more than 30 °C every day and night  :silly:

And for those of you Grinch's out there who don't believe in Santa...here's a famous article that was written in the US back in the 1800s in response to a letter about whether Santa exists or not called Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus...

In 1897, Frank Church, an editorial writer for The New York Sun, wrote this response to a letter from a young reader. It became one of the most famous editorials in American history.

We take pleasure in answering at once and thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

“Dear Editor:

“I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, ‘If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.’

“Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

“Virginia O’Hanlon”

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.
