BUENOS AIRES, dic 09 (DyN) - La sexta edición de la Copa Peugeot Argentina de Tenis, que comenzará a disputarse desde el próximo jueves, fue presentada hoy en el Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club con las presencias de Guillermo Vilas, Agustín Calleri, Juan Mónaco, Juan Ignacio Chela y Gastón Gaudio.

El torneo, que se disputará sobre una cancha de cemento especialmente instalada para la competencia, contará con los siguientes partidos en la primera fase: David Nalbandian-Chela, Guillermo Cañas-Mónaco, José Acasuso-Gaudio y Feliciano López-Calleri.
El torneo arrancará el jueves a las 20.30 con el duelo Cañas-Mónaco y a continuación se enfrentarán López y Calleri.

El viernes, a las 20.30, jugarán Nalbandian y Chela, y luego lo harán Acasuso y Gaudio.

La organización contaba con las presencias de Juan Martín Del Potro, noveno en el ránking ATP, y de Carlos Moyá, ex número uno del mundo, quienes se bajaron del torneo en las últimas horas.

El lugar del tandilense fue ocupado por Chela, en tanto que Gaudio fue invitado tras la negativa del español debido a una distensión muscular.

Luis Lobo, ex doblista y encargado de la organización del torneo, manifestó en conferencia de prensa que a pesar de la caída del equipo argentino de Copa Davis ante España en la final de la tradicional competencia "se espera buena concurrencia de público, como siempre ocurrió con este torneo".

"Creo que la gente tiene que entender que esto (por la final perdida de la Davis) fue un evento deportivo, puede pasar lo bueno y lo malo. Lamentablemente tocó lo malo. Creo que hasta ahora ninguno asumió la derrota y pensó que podíamos perder", afirmó Lobo, quien con el equipo argentino de Copa Davis ganó ocho partidos de dobles y perdió tres.

La Copa Argentina se disputará bajo el formato de dos partidos por jornada (jueves y viernes), semifinales (sábado) y final (domingo).

Esta será la sexta ocasión en que se disputará sobre cancha rápida en el Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

Nalbandian y Cañas se alzaron con el torneo en dos oportunidades. El unquillense fue ganador en 2005 y 2007, en tanto que el de Tapiales fue vencedor en 2003 y 2006. Por su parte, Gaudio fue el vencedor en la edición de 2004.
