DOHA, Qatar (AP)—Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will open the 2009 ATP season by playing at the Qatar Open.

Qatar tennis federation president Nasser al-Kholiafi says Andy Murray and Andy Roddick will also take part in the hard-court tournament, which begins Jan. 5.

The tournament in Doha is one of three to start the 2009 tennis season, along with the Brisbane International in Australia, and the Chennai Open in India.

so Roger doesn't want go in AO as #3 - with the success of Estoril last year, I think it is a wise choice to enter more other-countable tournaments :tape:

Fed will be #3, if the week plays out by seed (Djoko winning Brisbane). The odds would have favoured him staying ahead if he had gone to Chennai - where Davy is the headliner (Fed owns him 12-0). In Doha, he faces two guys with winning records against him.

At least Fed doesn't meet Murray before the final if he's #3 seed. Probably better for him.

50% chance Murray will be in Fed's half, actually.

0% chance if he's #3 seed.

You mean in Doha.

0% chance if he's #3 seed.

It will be good to see them go at each other right off of the bat in 2009!
