That's 12 Aussies already in the MD. Probably 3 Australian WCs, and then at least one qualifier should make half the draw Australian

Expected field though, and expected low cut-off.

-- Millman to continue his epic feats of glory and take Hensel to the cleaners.
-- Ebden to continue his random form from China and lose in 3 sets.
-- Tomic to continue getting scheduled a night time match in the 2nd round this time in the cold Burnie air and get beaten 6-4 1-6 1-6 by Motomura or Matosevic

Sirianni 1 and 2 ffs omg

Speaking of Joe, the most vocal crowd I ever saw was his five set loss to Zabaleta @ the 99 AO, all his wog mates were in the stands and going off their heads on some back-court.

It was a sight to behold.

matosevic got bagelled by tomic i dont know if i should laugh or cry..

Matosevic couldn't hit a backhand in for the first set, he got treatment on his elbow.

He won the second set, by only holding serve twice. There were a few hilarious slice backhand exchanges, one of which went for around 20 shots of them just hitting slice to each other.

Marinko saved a mp with a clutch low volley, but worst of all, he was up 5-4 in the TB and had 2 serves, no wonder he was fucked off after the match.

Yeah when they were in Chile but it didn't emerge in the press till the defaulting incident. Apparently he was being beaten comfortably and then he started the insults at Luczak.

He apologised afterwards but it didn't stop him from pressing his claims for the second spot in the Davis Cup team by stating that he beat Luczak even though in reality as far as I know he was beaten easily and carried on like a sore loser. :haha:

I like Tomic but I have to agree he should talk himself up a little less at this stage of his career. Also in due course (when his rank is up a bit) playing qualies would be good for him. I would have thought since it's clay Luczak would have to be considered too - but TA doesn't seem to like giving him wildcards :(

Yeah needs a bit more results behind him to be talking like he is. Luczak won't get it unless he wins another 5 challenger tournaments on clay this year, I'd say Klein is the biggest chance at this point in time for the French Wildcard (even if he doen't get it he'll be ranked high enough to enter qualies). It's not that they don't like giving Pete wildcards its just that hes too old now, its about making sure the next generations of aussie tennis players are ready for Grand Slams, we saw it at the Aussie Open, both Klein and Tomic were giving wildcards into Brisbane and did ok. Then used what they learnt from Brisbane at the Australian Open and both won a match.

Yes that's a very fair point. I think there's room for the occasional "reward" for a hardworking older player too, especially one that's fought hard in DC and so on. They only have one wildcard for RG so it's a tougher choice than AO where they can be more generous. Klein would be a very good choice, except on the other hand I strongly believe in very young players playing qualies for the practice. It's difficult - just as well it's not my choice to make

Anyway, bad luck Pete, better luck next tournament :)
