OFF SEASON: Nico Off Season News And Other Nico Chatter...

11-14-2008, 07:36 PM
Wishing Nico a wonderful off season!!!

Hope he has a relaxing vacation, hanging out with family and friends. :)

He deserves it after working so hard to come back and sacrificing a lot to move back up the ladder. :yeah:

Also wish Nico buena suerte in finding a new coach! ;)

11-14-2008, 09:11 PM
Happy vacation Nico !!
I hope he'll rest well and be back for the next season in good shape

11-15-2008, 02:17 AM
yeah he desearves a good rest after this terrible and busy year, I'm pretty sure that he was already tired like 2 months ago and he still pulled it off to keep playing and try to save this season

Enjoy the off season Nico ... todo con medida of course :rolls:

11-15-2008, 03:09 AM
Have a great off season Nico!!! You deserve a lot of rest after this long year. :yeah:

11-26-2008, 03:11 PM
Nico usually take about three weeks off for his well deserved holiday off season break.

But this year he played two weeks after the usual end of the year so I'm not sure when he'll start training for 2009.

He'll have to start at the latest by December 15 or he won't be ready for the start of 2009. Bummer for him because he really needed some time off. But he's usually starting back up around now.

Hopefully we'll hear news of a new coach by then. He can't get ready for the new season (or at least not properly) if he doesn't have a new coach in place. And yes, I know that I'm obsessed with the coach issue, but it's Nico's fault. ;) He's been without a coach for so long that he's making me loca.

11-26-2008, 06:09 PM
Hi guys :wavey:

Wow, Nico will play Doha at the beginning! It's the toughest field compared with Chennai and Brisbane. But it's great to see his name on a ATP entry list after such a long time. :)

11-26-2008, 06:52 PM
:wavey: Tommy!

Thanks for the headsup! I just posted the entry list on the schedule thread. :)

He probably signed up for Qatar because I know in the past that he didn't want to go to Chennai even though it has an easier field because he'd have to have all sorts of shots (like vaccinations) to go there. And last time he went to Qatar he liked the idea that he didn't have to go all the way Down Under in one trip; he could go halfway and then finish up going Down Under. Plus Rios really loved playing in Qatar - I guess they treat the players really well and it's beautiful - so he was the one who got Nico to go the first time (either 2004 or 2005 - can't remember which year).

11-27-2008, 02:52 AM
so weird to see him playing there but again, great to see him on an atp entry list ;) ... btw where does this tournament starts?

oh and I saw that he is still 76 in the atp ranking this week :)

11-27-2008, 02:55 AM
Doha starts January 5.

That's good news! Though I don't think the rankings change much this time of year so hopefully he won't slip down in rankings. Going up in the rankings is fine though. :yeah:

11-27-2008, 03:05 AM
oh very early in the year then :p

supossly Felipe said that there were still a couple of challengers to be play but that we shouldn't expect a big change that's why I mentioned it ;)

11-27-2008, 03:10 AM
It is early so he'll have to start training again shortly for the new year. Poor Nico. Not really much of a break.

11-27-2008, 03:11 AM
well I'm sure he's really enjoying his time off :p

11-28-2008, 06:21 PM

He darn tooting better start thinking about the theme. :( If he waits any longer to find a coach, he might as well just forgetaboutit and just stay with these no names. At this rate, he'll be retired before he bothers to get some names.

Nico news:

In the meantime, Massú will take up again the work physical Monday, December 1. The viñamarino is calm against the option to begin the 2009 without coach. "In these moments I am on holidays, so I have not thought a lot on the theme. I want to have a coach, but, for the time being, I don't even have names of possible coaches. For the pre-season that practice with the Argentine Jorge Gerossi, who accompanied me in some tournaments this year, or perhaps ask aid to Hans Gildemeister. And I don't have a coach, I will continue with the formula that 'Nano' Zuleta accompany me to the tournaments. When he wasn't able to go, Gerossi would go with me".

Nico will begin 2009 in the ATP of Doha (Katar). "I am very enthusiastic, because for a long time, I did not enter direct to a tournament of a million dollars", he said.

11-28-2008, 06:25 PM
Not about Nico, but good news for our Gaby. He may be named the Davis Cup captain for Argentina. :yeah:

11-29-2008, 03:28 AM
really?!?!?! that would be an awesome job for Gaby  :yeah: difficult but awesome job! :D

And Nicolas  :banghead: :haha:

11-29-2008, 01:15 PM
Yeah, in one way I'm happy for Gaby. On the other hand, I'm scared for Gaby. :scared:

11-30-2008, 02:39 AM
Nico, please be looking for a coach, as a Christmas present for your fans at least :)

:hatoff: Congrats to Gaby. He certainly deserves the honor :yeah:

11-30-2008, 02:57 AM
I agree with you, if he gets the job, I'll be scared for him but I guess that we're worried for nothing, after all he did manage to coach Nico ... twice!!!

11-30-2008, 01:06 PM
Sparko - I thought the same thing - come on Nico, all we want for Christmas is a new coach. I just read the Emilio Sanchez interiew that FFGC posted on Fernando's board. Fernando has been without a coach for what, like one whole entire week? And already he's getting names? Obviously he's a top 15 player so coaches will come running. But Nico's been without a coach for a year and still he can't come up with a couple names? I'm convinced he has no real plans for getting a strong coach who can get him back into the top 50. Whatever the, can't find anyone who wants to coach him, he figures he's near the end of his career so why bother spending $$$ on a great coach...who knows. But even if he does get a coach, he won't go outside the box like Fernando does. We'll get another coach from Argentina who coached someone well known a 1,000 years ago. So he might as well stay with the "team" (and I use that term loosely) that he has.

Kid - that's true about Gaby!!!

11-30-2008, 06:03 PM
Yeah, I agree Nicofan. Getting a new coach who will really help him does not seem to be a priority with Nico, and it could be any of the reasons you mentioned. He did get himself back into the top 100 without one, but I fear he will need a good coach to get much higher. I hope I'm wrong about that-as I always say, time will tell

And yes Kid, after 2 stints as Nico's coach, Gaby can probably handle anything, even the Argentine DC team ;)

12-01-2008, 02:03 AM
I know that I'm a broken record on this so I'll be quiet about it from now on. :o

12-01-2008, 02:29 AM
I don't believe you NicoFan :rolls:

oh well one thing is true, we'll never understand Nico's mind  :rolls: ... oh and I liked the term of "the team" :haha:

12-04-2008, 01:57 AM
Nico has been working out since Monday and no news. Why doesn't the Chilean press interfere when we want them to?

12-04-2008, 02:12 AM
Oh btw - Gaby isn't the only one in the running for the Argentina Davis Cup captain position - Horacio is also in the running.

12-04-2008, 02:55 AM
Horacio too? no way :rolls:

and well the chilean press never post what we want :o

12-04-2008, 03:06 AM
Horatio vs Gaby???? I think both of them ought to go back to Fernando and Nico since they are both looking for coaches  (well, really I don't want Horatio back with Fernando, but if only Gaby would once again consider taking on is the season to wish you know ;) )

12-04-2008, 03:16 AM
I agree Sparko but I want the best for Nico and also for Gaby, and it wouldn't be good for his health to coach Nico AGAIN!! :rolls:

12-04-2008, 03:22 AM
I suppose you're right Kid, we have to think of Gaby too. But I don't see how coaching a whole team of Argentines would be much better for his health than coaching Nico ;)

12-04-2008, 03:24 AM
Ok, we're hilarious :haha: we only 18 posts, (17 after I post this ) behind David's forum now :yeah:

12-04-2008, 03:29 AM
we're awesome :haha: ... you're right about Gaby, coaching Nico could be as dangerous as coaching a bunch of argies, esp the Cow :scared:

12-04-2008, 11:54 AM
Ok, we're hilarious :haha: we only 18 posts, (17 after I post this ) behind David's forum now :yeah:

 OK, you know what's really funny, I thought I had posted the above on the Chat thread! (note the "Vamos Nico" ) :retard: :haha:

12-04-2008, 11:59 AM
:rolls: I've done that too Sparko!

Coaching the Argentine players would be a nightmare. Fat Dave isn't the only one out of shape. Did you see Calleri???? Everytime I used to watched the ARgentines practice when I went to tournaments in person, they sat through 50% of their practices, rarely getting up off their butts, or just joking around. That's why I never liked Nico hanging around with them...bad influences. :tape:

12-05-2008, 03:08 AM
Sparko :haha: I didn't even notice it :rolls: and like NicoFan said, I have done that too :p

12-05-2008, 03:09 AM
oh and you're right NicoFan, coaching the argie team will be a nightmare for anybody :p

12-08-2008, 01:03 PM

Nico is going to be interviewed on a Chilean TV station might be able to watch it on the free live streaming (I say might because sometimes I get blocked because I'm not in Chile).

Here's the link for information:

12-08-2008, 01:17 PM
Thanks Nicofan! I hope it works for us-fingers crossed :yeah:

12-08-2008, 04:05 PM
I'm keeping my fingers crossed too! :yeah: I miss seeing Nico - would be nice to see him again.

12-08-2008, 07:44 PM
Gaby news - sadly he's going to coach Acasuso. I'm happy for Gaby that he's got a job, but can't say that I'm a big Acasuso fan. Oh well...

12-09-2008, 01:04 AM
FYI - the live streaming is working. :)

12-09-2008, 01:50 AM
 OMG! I was watching Charlie Brown with the girls and I forgot about the livestreaming :smash: :o I will have to see if they have it on video to watch.

Congrats to Gaby :yeah: I hope Chucho knows how lucky he is.

12-09-2008, 01:54 AM
It's playing right now Sparko (came on around 9:25 EST). :)

Too bad it's me that's challenged me. Obviously the Chileans never responded to my request to tape it and upload it onto youtube. And I can't figure out how to get the Screen Shots to work.

And it's really good too.

Well back to watching.

12-09-2008, 01:54 AM
:bounce: He's still on!!!!

12-09-2008, 01:56 AM
.....not that I know what he's saying....not that that matters

12-09-2008, 02:01 AM
I had no idea what he said either. :rolls:

But he was cute! :yeah:

The only thing I got was because they put up the words on the bottom - that he wanted to play for 4-5 more years.

And that he's single. He would never admit it anyway even if he did have a gf.

Again, too bad no one who was really tech savvy was watching because he really looked adorable. Would have been nice to have pix. I'll check the site. Maybe they'll post pixs.

12-09-2008, 02:04 AM
Well they do have old videos on the site. Hopefully they'll upload the one with Nico. Then Kid can watch and tell us what he said. :yeah: And she knows how to do screen shots. :)

We'll keep our fingers crossed.

12-09-2008, 02:14 AM
I take that back. It says videos, but I can't get any of them to work.

Well if people didn't see it live, guess they won't see it.

Again, too bad no one from Chile helps out with getting videos/pixs/news. I surf the Spanish and American forums, and they have so many people who help out.

12-09-2008, 02:22 AM
4-5 yrs? That is good news for us  And yeah, if he did have a gf, he would never admit it live on tv ;)

Fingers crossed!-again!

12-09-2008, 02:23 AM
Now I feel like a nut. I got the videos to work. :o Back to keeping fingers crossed that they'll put up the interview with Nico. :)

12-09-2008, 02:24 AM
I take that back. It says videos, but I can't get any of them to work.

Well if people didn't see it live, guess they won't see it.

Again, too bad no one from Chile helps out with getting videos/pixs/news. I surf the Spanish and American forums, and they have so many people who help out.

 I only saw the end, and he looked so good. I hope Kid can get it to work for herself.

12-09-2008, 02:39 AM
oh man too bad that I missed it :awww: stupid time difference :o

Well hopefully they'll put the video up in the section that NicoFan is saying, then I could watch it and at least do some kind of translation and probably some pics :p ... stupid time difference again :ras:

thanks for the news about Gaby, I'm not that thrilled about him coaching one of the lazy argentines, esp Chucho who seems that he's always walking sleep :p but well, Gaby is a good coach I'm sure that he'll help out a lot to Acasuso's improvement and I'll cry (again) what Nicolas wasted :o

12-09-2008, 03:59 AM
Now I feel like a nut. I got the videos to work. :o Back to keeping fingers crossed that they'll put up the interview with Nico. :)

 I only saw the end, and he looked so good. I hope Kid can get it to work for herself.

:o I just missed you post Nicofan  Good to know it works-now they had better put Nico's interview up. And then I will wait for Kid's translasion

12-09-2008, 10:24 PM
I found this on a Nico/Fernando blog that I check out now and again.

Whoever runs the blog put up some of the things Nico said in the interview.

I don't want to copy it because that's not cool to take things from someone elses blog and put it on another forum, but you can read it. Those who can't read spanish, can translate it on

12-09-2008, 10:31 PM
Picture of Nico in lun:

12-10-2008, 01:47 AM
Thanks for the link to the blog NicoFan, meanwhile I wait for the video now at least I can know a little bit what Nico said :yeah:

oh and the link of the picture takes you to another different page :p I'm looking for the one with the Nico pic and I'll post it ;)

12-10-2008, 01:59 AM
ok forget it  I only could find an small mention of Nico going back to practice but no picture so maybe they already took it off? :p

12-10-2008, 04:17 AM
Thanks for the links Nicofan! :wavey: here's hoping the whole interview is posted yet sometime soon. :yeah:

12-10-2008, 09:42 PM
Buenas noticias!!! The video is up!!! :woohoo:

HEre's the link:

Now Senorita KidNicky - I have lots of requests here. First, lots of screen shots!!! :bounce: I mean lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots!!! And second, see if there is anything the blogger missed about what he said. We owe you one Kid!!! :rolls:

12-11-2008, 12:39 AM
Oh and btw - if you hate doing the screen shots, tell me how to do them. I finally found my Print Screen button, but when I hit the Function key and the Print Screen key, it doesn't come out right. The picture is still's not like a regular picture. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

12-11-2008, 02:03 AM
first let me figure it out how to do the screen caps ... sorry I'm using a Mac now so everything is new for me :rolls: ... and you could try to get a better pic if you pause the video and then make the print screen thing, just try it although I can't promise that much, sometimes that doesn't work either :p

12-11-2008, 02:48 AM

12-11-2008, 02:49 PM
And hey btw - you know what I noticed that Nico doesn't do anymore, that he used to do all the time? Play with his hair during interviews. It was so cute when he used to do that. But I guess our chico is growing up.

12-11-2008, 03:42 PM
Well that's all ;)

And sorry girls for the late help with the screencaps but now I don't have time to check the forum like I used to do

12-12-2008, 01:51 AM
it seems nobody read the news  ... well the match is over, Nico lost to Feliciano 6-4, 6-3, it isn't a bad score since Nico was invited at the last minute, but at least he got some court time against a top player again :yeah:

12-12-2008, 01:56 AM
oh I forgot ... thanks for such a few screen caps  ... I can't believe that I still didn't see the video, I wasted my time watching the football player and no Nico :o

12-12-2008, 03:10 AM
:worship: Fergie :worship: Thanks so very much for all the screen caps Fergie! Nico looks amamzing   and I hope you will be able to be around more too

Nicofan- I noticed that he didn't play with his hair so much anymore too  and I thought the same thing-he's matured  (and maybe become more comfortable in front of the camera.)

Kid-thanks so much for the score, like you said not bad for such short notice. :yeah: Sorry I missed it, busy, busy day for me :awww: Tis the season.....

12-12-2008, 03:13 AM
oh I forgot ... thanks for such a few screen caps  ... I can't believe that I still didn't see the video, I wasted my time watching the football player and no Nico :o

Yeah, I wish Nico was first on the show. And I don't know about anyone else, but its took forever to get through the video-its like all vidoes were for me before we got a broadband hookup. Very frustrating :awww: but I did see the first half of Nico's interview-no idea what he's saying but he looks so good saying it, it doesn't matter :p

12-12-2008, 10:43 AM
I had really a busy day too yesterday so I missed the score. Too bad he lost, but FeLo is hot right now so like Kid said, just good for him to be on court again against a top player.

Nico isn't on the video? I watched a few minutes of the tape - didn't have time to see the entire thing. I knew the football player would be first becasue I saw the original, but isn't Nico on the video after about 15 minutes?

12-12-2008, 01:31 PM
I think its like an hour show divided into 2 half hour interviews and Nico's is tne 2nd interview. The problem, for me anyway, is its so slow-like watching videos on dial up. Stream, then play a few seconds-and it seems to take forever to get past the futbol player  Once through though, I got it to play normal but it was getting so late I couldn't wait for the rest of Nico's interview :awww: and when I came back on line the next day, I had to start all over again-with the futbol player :p Now, I am the first to admit I am not very computer savy so maybe I'm missing something, but other videos just play :silly:

Update: I thought I'd try it again, and its working better today

12-12-2008, 01:53 PM

12-12-2008, 02:02 PM
Nico training in Stgo ;)

12-12-2008, 03:06 PM
Oh my aren't those nice... :)

Yet again, you are wonderful Fergie!!! :worship:

12-12-2008, 03:09 PM
Read the interview with Nico: I hope the challengers are a thing of the past. And no comment on his comments on the coaching situation. :tape:

Sparko - the video was slow for me yesterday too. I'm going to try it again tonight when hopefully I'll have some free time.

12-12-2008, 11:37 PM
Alexito put up some screen shots of Nico's match against Felo :yeah:

12-12-2008, 11:37 PM
And Alexito was also wonderful enough to make a video. :woohoo:

I'm uploading it now - as soon as it's done, I'll post it.

12-13-2008, 03:18 AM
I had the same problema about the video of the interview, I never got to see Nico and I had to watch the football player twice :o so I gave up and I have to try it again, why isn't Nico first huh? :o

Thanks to all of you for the info, the pics and videos :bounce:

12-13-2008, 11:23 AM
It was taking tooo toooo toooo long to upload Alexito's video on my blog. You can go to his video blog and download it yourselves. :rolls: That doesn't take long at all.

And hey did you see Fernando has a coach already? Can't say that I'm thrilled with his choice but at least he got a coach quickly. Nico wants "liberty." Well when he's not playing tennis anymore, he can have his freedom. Right now he needs a real coach. I've been reading some comments on the Chilean sites, and to be sure, I'm not the only one who feels this way. ;)

Nico must be the only person on earth who thinks that he doesn't need a coach :silly:

12-14-2008, 02:22 AM
you only have to accept the things that can't be changed .... that's part of our therapy group to accept Nico's decisions :rolls:

12-14-2008, 01:23 PM
I don't know what he's thinking.

It makes no sense at all. Especially the he wants "liberty" part. :tape:

Which makes me think that all he's saying is pure bs (not the first time our Nico has lied to the press ;)), and there's another reason for this continued insanity. No money to hire a good coach or no coach wants to coach him (he's known for being completely difficult to coach - besides the fact that his ranking is still low - a good coach wants someone they know will be at the top of the rankings). Anyone's quess, but really I hope that whatever the reason he gets it figured out quickly. From what I'm reading on comment boards and other blogs, the people who watched the match against FeLo said that he's having the same problems that he's had the last couple of years. Which means he'll be back down in challengers again by the summertime if things don't change.

Oh btw there was video along with the photos on canal13 - sorry forgot to post the link yesterday - I can't get the video to work but hopefully it will work for y'all.

Kid - if he said anything other than what was in the paper, let us know!

12-15-2008, 02:21 AM
I guess that he can't find a coach that wants to coach him 'cause he said that he has enough money to live for the rest of his life :rolls:

12-15-2008, 02:24 AM
damn ... I couldn't watch the video, so I'm sorry, you'd have to ask about what he said to somebody else :awww:

12-17-2008, 02:17 AM
Nico was for a few seconds on tenis pro this week ... alexito put up the video on youtube as usual so you could watch Nico before his match against FeLo ;)

"Puedo jugar cuatro a cinco años a gran nivel"

"No, nunca.

12-18-2008, 11:34 AM
He's planning on staying with those two bozos until Miami????

These are the things that make me wonder why I've stayed a fan all these years.

I swear that he's doing this just to make everyone insane. He knows that everyone wants him to get a new coach, and he's just being stubborn to show that he's not going to let everyone tell him what to do.

12-18-2008, 07:47 PM
He enjoys driving everybody crazy so I just read and  my eyes to it ... sooner or later he'll stop being so stubborn about everything, at least I hope so

12-24-2008, 02:13 AM
No Nico news lately...

Hopefully he's going to have a wonderful Christmas...

The organizers of the ATP of Vina del Mar delivered this Tuesday the list of players for the edition 2009 of the tournament, to be disputed between the 2 and 8 of February, and to the already known names of Fernando González (15°) and Spanish Tommy Robredo (21°) added that of the German Rainer Schuettler (33°) as attractions of the contest.

The German was fifth of the world in 2004 and he has four titles, although the last one he dates from 2003.

The championship will have a picture of 28 tennis players and next to them mentioned they will be besides the Spaniard Albert Montanes(45°), Argentine Juan Monaco (46°), José Acasuso (48°) and Agustin Calleri (60°), and Nicolas Massú (77°).

As for the wild cards, the first one was offered to the Chilean one Paul Capdeville (111°), while of the two remainders, reserved for foreigners, one already was asked by the trasandino Gastón Gaudio (without ranking).

The opinion of the localities | to rise Massú exactly was this Tuesday in the conference of promotion of the tournament and commented the picture of the contest.

"Is Tommy Robredo and a lot of, Argentine players Spanish player and is going to be a complicated tournament. I agre that does two or three years ago looked at the picture and perhaps a little bit easier one saw it what is now. The tennis players begin to inform that the tournament is good, that many players they come and today already in the first round a difficult party touches you or in second round someone touches you of good ranking, then are five parties that one must win and you cannot think about a semifinal, because all the matches are difficult", indicated.

The owner of house has not been able to win in its land and although its desire is to conquer the crown, is not something that the dream remove him.

"I believe that my tennis career and my life is not going to change if I leave champion of Vina or not, is not something that is going to do me as the sportsman and like happier person, but yes is something that want to win and each time that come I play the tournament I feel that I have the tennis and that I can do it. I have had two ends, I have been close, but itself he has not been given, I believe that with the experience today perhaps I will be able to arrive at an end, to handle me and to feel me more tranquil done not so pressure as in those two finals", declared.

Poor Nico....

Reminds me of 2005 when his foot was bothering him before he went Down Under.

Hopefully he's doing the right thing by going to Auckland.

I noticed that he might skip BA for Memphis? Don't know what to think about that.

12-31-2008, 03:06 AM
That sucks :( ... Hopefully this won't be that serious and he'll be perfectly fine for Auckland :)

Well it's not sure about not playing BA ... we'll have to wait and see ;)

12-31-2008, 05:59 AM
:awww: I hope it isn't too serious.

Looks like Nico will play Buenas Aires rather than Memphis.

Definitely no Acapulco though.

Great pix of Nico in emol but can't seem to save it.

01-02-2009, 01:38 AM
OMG see? that's why I love this boy, he totally reads my mind and has decided to not make me feel miserable by coming to Acapulco :silly:

Oh and btw I agree with him, if Paul isn't giving up all his tournaments for being under Hans supervision then he shouldn't do it, it's a good thing that he's playing in BA's ... We know that Fernando is acepting Hans plan since he always preffers to play on hardcourts than on clay ;)

01-02-2009, 01:40 AM
and thanx for the pic but it's not a new pic am I right? :p
