It will take a bit of time. The blowdryers are not out on the court yet, so we first need to get that on, and then they will need to manually dry it with towels, and then the players need to warm up, and then it might start raining again...

This might happen all day, so an entire day of tennis might get washed out. :(

 yeah pretend to know me and know what I'm thinking. that'll go over well

It's a long season and it'd be really bad to have the players playing twice in a day, etc. etc. I'm in the US and have ESPN, I don't really have to worry about getting to see Andy :) :p

Plus I'd rather see live tennis than taped. Thanks. Go back to your judgemental hole now.

this is why i think all TMS events should 10days and 64draw, everything would be better, players can rest more. if there is rain you have days to make it up instead playing 2matches in a day.

Deboogle!.
07-27-2004, 05:43 PM
so then what will they do, make them play two TMS matches in a day? Oh man this is gonna be bad

star
07-27-2004, 05:47 PM
It's all a plot. They did it on purpose so Federer could play tonight and Andy would have to play two matches tomorrow.

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Angele

Say there is a break in the weather tonight, will they cancel the day session and have Federer play or will they start with the first matches on court?

Deboogle!.

Probably...they'd rather complete one full session than have two incomplete sessions I'd guess.

I would think they will keep the night schedule intact. They might have others play on the outer courts though if they've got the lighting.

Your not imagining anything. In the last few tournaments, players have been hels-up by rain delays leading to many playing two matches in one day.

I'd say there was rain at every two tourneys this past half year alone.

Well according to Naldo who is seeing it on tv, it's raining and they said something about sending people with day session tickets home. So it's really not looking too good. But who knows :o

*Ljubica*
07-27-2004, 07:54 PM
OK - Sky commentators have just said that only Roddick v Benneteau will form the main court day session today, and the other players who were due to play such as Hewitt have been told to go home and play tomorrow  OK - don't want to get into an argument here - but why? That seems to favour Roddick if Hewitt has to play twice tomorrow and Roddick gets his match over with today? Not wanting to pick a fight with anyone - just confused - I'm not a Hewitt fan but it seems really unfair on him

LCeh
07-27-2004, 07:55 PM
But the problem is, Rosie, only one match can be played. If they put Hewitt, then it wouldn't be fair to Andy. Either way they are gonna get yelled at.

But yeah, you are right. Hewitt was supposed to play first, so I don't know why they changed it now...

Deboogle!.
07-27-2004, 07:56 PM
I think they shouldn't be cancelling any matches yet.... I think they should be trying like HELL To get everyone in and if then it's impossible...

I dunno.... I think this is a lose/lose/lose situation.

MissPovaFan

I dont understand it at all but the only reason I can think of is that they are favouring the higher seeds such as Henman and Roddick.

That's because they're fucking SLOW. The ballkids at the Montreal tournament are able to dry the court in 15 minutes!!! Yes 15 minutes, these people at Toronto are just taking their sweet ass time. Everyone remember all the rain and thunder at last year's TMS in Canada? Everything went fine because we were quick, but this year its in slow motion. :ras:

amethyst
07-27-2004, 08:02 PM
If they are favouring higher seeds why is Escude/Lopez or Hrbaty/Melzer still on the schedule instead of Hewitt and Coria? Generally I think itīs strange to cancel some matches at this point. Itīs not that late in Toronto!

MissPovaFan
07-27-2004, 08:03 PM
I agree with Naldo - 45 minutes to dry a court is ridiculous! Why no covers for a start? and if they can take 15 mins to dry Montreal why is it 45 mins to dry Toronto? The organisers are bringing on problems themselves half the time

Well, if play ever does start today there will be no Roddick. Whatever will ESPN do

I guess they'll have to settle for Roger vs. Hicham ;) (hopefully)

I just hope for something other than another repeat of Tommy losing. But I'm referring to ESPN here...

Heh. I love how every place that rains is apparently run by idiots. It's only the desert that is run by intelligent organizers, I guess!

There are a lot of things wrong this year, but it's the first year on this site, so I'm going to cut them a break.

Look, I agree that it's ridiculous it takes so long to dry the courts. But it is like that for ALL North American hardcourt tournaments. Not just this one. And frankly, after spending the entire day there waiting for drizzle to stop, wasting money on a ticket for nothing... I think that I have more room to bitch than you guys.... bbuuuut I'm not. The commentators for Latin America have just said the same thing... only Roger and David will play tonight.

They can't do anything about rain, but I think there are mistakes... for example, they were saying in the website for the last three hours that Grandstand would start even sooner than Centre Court, but now they are simply not playing there for the whole night .... Why? If they can dry one court, surely they can handle two, can't they?
Maybe they are not prepared enough, and when guys are supposed to play six games in seven days, you have no time to spare...

sure, nothing is impossible with him, I really can't say how he is going into this match, but two complete days off shouldn't be too bad, let's say he got the maximum rest after his final he could get and the way from Indy to Toronto isn't that far.
but still difficult to predict how he is going into this match, I hope that he is motivated and not emotionally fatigued

melx, here is the special letter for Jürgen's name in your signature which is probably not available on a keyboard in Thailand
just copy and paste it from here into your signature and you have his name there in your signature correctly spelled in German language  ;)

They have stated for the last gosh knows how long that Henman's match is to be played on Grandstand, starting even before the Stadium so why on Earth has it been cancelled?
It's like this... the organizers don't want to lose all the money for tonight's session. So, instead of spreading their man power out, they focus ALL of it on center court, hoping that they won't have to refund those tickets if they get it dried fast and get a match over with. Of course, this is all moot, since it began raining again! But it's not a stupid decision, in terms of business. For those of us interested in other matches.... yeah, it was stupid :)

IT's not even raining hard. It's mist. That's it. So annoying.

Where are all the people who bitched about Andy's schedule before when Roger is the only one who gets to play today now, huh????????????????

Hmmmm......... :)

anyway...... at least it's not a TOTAL washout. But tomorrow is still gonna be wild lol
Nalbandian and Misha were still on the schedule at that point, but I suppose they don't count?

Like I said, they're gonna look very stupid if there's rain Thursday and the only thing completed is first round matches... I just don't get it

So wow, they're not gonna try to catch up tomorrow.... then when in the hell are they gonna do it?? Make them play 2 matches when each match is harder and bigger and even more important? :banghead:

Hmm....no second round matches. Interesting. The tournament will have to haul ass for the next 5 days.
