I feel like the level of hate is astoundingly high right now and I have also the feeling that it's not going to stop before a long time with each new success our young man will bring before us

I salute those of us who are struggling with the haters out there (often in disguise though  ) , but if you just want to celebrate the birth of a champion, this thread is for you :

Yeah, it really is a good news.

What's nicer is that the two of them are good friend apparently.

The article in l'équipe on Jo today was really good too. The Willander chronicle particularly.

(I was really too tired yesterday, my launch for this thread is absolutely horrible :haha: )

Is Jo friends with Monfils

Yes, he is. With Gasquet they were all in the same school for sportsman in France (l'INSEP) (I am not sure for Simon). They are all good friends in fact. But Gael and Jo were a kind of group with Josselin Ouanna when they were young.

Don't be depressed, Davidenko was really good and earned rightfully his victory. But it's not against him that the qualification will be played and Jo still has all he needs to win it.

I just read an article about Jo complaining about the unprofessionalism of the ball kids. He obviously said that davydenko played well and although he was younger, Davydenko's physical conditioning is better than him. He said that the ball kids didn't work well with him. When he need to serve, they didn't pass him the balls at the right place. When he needed to wipe his face, they couldn't get him the towel. He said that was a setback and waste of his energy. In the last set alone, the ball kid lost sight of his towel like ten times and needed time to find it. It was a distraction to his concentration.

I believe what Jo said. I didn't see this match but I saw the match earlier and del potro was mad that he had to fetch his own towel many times, like the kids either didn't know the word towel or they were deaf.

edit: I found the video to his post match press conference

Hi Tsonga fans :wavey:

Don't worry - I come in peace (even though your guy keeps on beating mine :o ) Anyway - thought you may like to see these clips from Chinese TV. The first is a link to a Fashion Show that Jo took part in, - and the second is the actual Opening Ceremony.

well about the ball boys I agree that its way different from what he got in bercy cause they are over-trained all year, they are trained and evaluate to be the best for the players. Its because of roland garros.
Jo has to deal with it.Its like that.
He needs to focus now and win his next 2 matchs.
Allez jo.

Thanks for the vids:)

He looks way too tired to be playing his best tennis, his game from the baseline has been poor, especially his backhand :( It would be disappointing if he loses all his matches after making it this far, but it looks like he has nothing left to give in this event.

Well that's it I guess, I watched it and JMDP played well but Tsonga tried to overplay IMO, he should play safer sometimes...

MacArthur
11-11-2008, 11:11 AM
I don't think that it's a tennis problem. His game is to take some risk and that's all.

I think that he is just mentally toasted after Paris. He was absolutely unable to mentally match with JMDP.

Well, that's probably it for shanghaï. Already time to regroup for the next season.

amdany
11-11-2008, 11:23 AM

Hoping for another great season next year and injury-free this time:)

lisaplenske
11-11-2008, 11:33 AM
yes he was probably more tired mentally that he would want to say and accept to recognize.
Sad for him cause its over for him now even if he has one match to play.
He couldnt play his game today, he was too frustrated to make a great match and beat del potro in straight.
Well congrats to him after his big big season with a slam finale, 2 tournaments wins, 1 master serie at home,in france and then a top10 spot giving a qualification in the master cup.
Time to take some deserving rest,go spend holidays in a sunny country.
hope to see him even better(his backhand needs work) in 2009 and especially be injury free!

Not a bad effort from Jo, and good experience for his first TMC. Pity he had to be on the losing end of tie-breaks in both matches. Would be nice if he could salvage a win in his next match against Djokovic, but no sweat - just play like there's nothing to lose.

Then, time to take a much needed break, take care of that body and be revitalised for 2009. I'm praying that he stays injury-free. As long as he's able to play, he can go on a tear and steamroll everybody down. His brand of tennis, his character, his charisma make up a special package that we can't resist. He's really good for tennis.

Yesterday djokovic won, what were your impressions jojotards?

when we know that jo beat him in RR there but in 3 consecutive times...

I hope jo to be in djokovic quarter in the AO next year and you?

MacArthur
11-17-2008, 04:37 PM
I think we could say that he owns Djoko when he would have beaten him at the beginnning of a year, when Djoko is at his peak. But I will agree that it's probable that he has now an accurate idea on what to do to beat him.

On the AO, he said in a recent interview that his main objective at the moment is to win a grand slam. As he said before Bankgok that his objective was to win a tournament and before Bercy that he was looking at a Masters title...
So I don't know if he is going to win the AO next year, but I'm sure that it's going to be really difficult to beat him. And sure if he is in the quarter of Djoko, we won't feel very "dépayser".

lisaplenske
11-17-2008, 06:36 PM
yeah you're right!we can expect him to realise the things that he projected to do for 2009 like he did in 2008;
he has this incredible determination.

simplet
11-17-2008, 09:46 PM
It'd be better for him to be in Nadal's quarter, or even Murray's. I think he is the favourite against those two players; Djokovic would have the pressure to defend his title, or at least some of his points, so I don't see him go down easily. I'd say it would be 50-50 against djokovic, and he would clearly have trouble beating Federer. The best would be Nadal, then Murray, then Djoko in the final.

lisaplenske
11-18-2008, 11:24 AM
yes but the pressure of defending champion can also be very complicate to handle especially when you face top players early in the tournament.
And jo knows how to play him.But well whoever jo will draw, he ll have to beat them all.

riva
11-18-2008, 06:47 PM
Jo is best! I think in the following year it will win not one tournament!

Hello folks,I am from the Gasquetaires board but have really become a fan of Jo and Gille lately. I know lots of people are jumping on the bandwagon now! Although unless you follow tennis 24/7 it's not so easy to follow players in the earlier stages of their career as though don't get the media exposure so you can actuaaly know who they are. This is definitely the case in England as the only player our country is obessessed with is Murray.

MacArthur
11-26-2008, 05:06 PM
No problem, just jump in here. :wavey:

" One have to begin one day" ;)

I know that Richard has already begun his preparation for the next year, but I think that Jo is still in holyday. So it's going to be a little dead some more in here.

I also know that Gasquet will be at the master france between the 18 and the 21 of december, with Jo and the others.
Mmmmmmmh it seems really promissing

Didn't you say last time you're a PSG fan, Benoît? Because I just came across that - maybe it's a well-known fact, I don't know, I have no clue of football:

I hope that Jo hits the ground running at Brisbane and builds up superb form for AO. As 2008 runner-up, he's got a ton of points to defend. Expectations will be high on him this time but he's got the motivation and desire to succeed. Good luck Jo!

Yeah. Or when Mo said: "remember this is televised, so please sit down during the entire changeover." To which Gabashvili said: "I want to sit down longer, is that aloud?" And apparently he thought it was extremely funny cause it cracked him up:o And Mo was just looking like:

:rolls: I can totally see the guy entering the court without his bag, all happy to play, getting ready to the net and Jo making his  thing : "hem you sure you haven't forgotten anything man ?"

Eimear O'Mahony
03-14-2009, 10:42 PM
Well Jo probably got G/G together so ... Oh God tess that's funny  This Gabishvili is a little character methinks. Oh I am LOVING the tennis Jo-Wi is playing

Hi Tess/Eimear/Marion (I don't think I've chatted to you before, I'm Jen, hello)
Yes, Gabashvili was really funny at the start of the match, then Jo seemed to take his time deciding if he wanted to serve or not.

It's been a good start to the match, could end up being quite tight.

What's all this about Gael and Gillou?!

Tess Gray
03-14-2009, 10:45 PM
My msn stopped working Eim, so that's why I'm offline there, just so you know.

Oh and I am officially marrying Jo's forehand tonight

Tess Gray

Hmmm ... where shall we start ... Do you want to tell her or will I Marion??? I'm not sure how I can break the news

My msn stopped working Eim, so that's why I'm offline there, just so you know.
That's no problem sweetie. we're talking here anyway so it's all good :)

Would you believe that's exactly what is happening to me. It's how great he is. No matter how shitty your day was, just watch a JoWi match and it'll get better :woohoo:

Hi Tess/Eimear/Marion (I don't think I've chatted to you before, I'm Jen, hello)

What's all this about Gael and Gillou?!

Hi Jen :bigwave: No it's a little joke we often have at the Richie forum  that's wishful thinking  (but they did kiss each other more times than I can count so there must be a little truth in there, right Eim)

Eimear O'Mahony

See Jen your name has now caught on  He is definitely one HECK of an advert for men's tennis that's for sure. He's a credit to himself and his family that he makes people feel like that watching him 'cause there are very few players who can do that

Tess Gray
03-14-2009, 10:53 PM

Oh ok, you were talking about their beautiful friendship. :)
JoWi's FH is amazing today, you are a very lucky Girlfriend. ;) JoWi is so enigmatic, watching him never fails to make me smile.

Keijan
03-14-2009, 10:56 PM
Exactly Eimear. And the fact that he's half African doesn't hurt either. Thanks to him there is a lot of kids who are trying tennis now over there. He brings them hope :D
He's not the only player I love but he's the only one during which matches I go  every two points. Even Richie has never been that spectacular except for a few matches.

Eimear O'Mahony

It's okay Marion. He's your man. You're allowed to be lovestruck :hearts:  You're right about the chair btw. It is WAY too small for him!!! Yeah Jenny your photoshop image was BRILLIANT!!! :worship:

Eimear O'Mahony

PinkFeatherBoa
03-14-2009, 11:07 PM
That SP was so hilarious but on well, I'll take it. Shame it was an otherwise good set!

Tess Gray
03-14-2009, 11:08 PM
I love it when players sort of jump into their backhand... It looks spectacular! And both players have already done that a fw times this match.

Fast first game :yeah:

Keijan
03-14-2009, 11:08 PM
And yup ... actions speak louder than words ;) Although, when you've got Gilles saying he wants to touch Gael's ass maybe words speak louder in those cases :haha:

Oh god I'll NEVER get tired of that one. Actually he asked for permission didn't he ? And he even began with "we love each other, right ? Would you mind me caressing your ass behind the flag ?" And Gaël going all yeah sure carry on, but discreetly alright there is cameras around :rolls:

Eimear O'Mahony
03-14-2009, 11:09 PM
Oh I love the jumping into the backhand. It looks GREAT!!! Gilles does it a fair bit too and I love it. Oh Marion it's the best piece of footage I've ever seen. Gael looked like he was really keen on the idea and even in the photos it does look like Gilles is indeed caressing Gael's arse!

Tess Gray
03-14-2009, 11:12 PM
And an early break :worship: Jo is playing so solid!

Keijan
03-14-2009, 11:13 PM
And we fall into the G/G talk once again :haha: we are so corrupted Eim  but it's their fault they make it so easy for us. Gaël was very obviously not against a little petting in public

Aw I love Gillou's backhand  I've been trying to do the same in practice as I have the same kind of backhand as he does and actually it gets so much more powerful and precise, I love it.

Keijan
03-14-2009, 11:13 PM
Wow wow, don't get in the way of Jojo's serve when he's angry :haha:

Keijan

He said "merci" to the little ballgirl :inlove: I'm entering ultimate fangirling mode here

Eimear O'Mahony
03-14-2009, 11:16 PM
It's like they WANT us to talk about it Marion. I'm sure they get together and say 'What can we give the girls to talk about today' I mean, even in your avi pic Marion, it could be interpreted as Gilles apologising to Gael for something after a row! Gilles' backhand is great. I love it. Yup Jo is playing INCREDIBLY solid. If Gilles playes half as well I'll be a happy bunny

Eimear O'Mahony
03-14-2009, 11:16 PM

03-14-2009, 11:22 PM

Keijan
03-14-2009, 11:24 PM
Yeah Eim, that avi pic is my favorite ! It's from one of the numerous pictures I took when I went to a Gaël/Gillou doubles match in Paris where I was first rank :inlove: they spent the whole match giggling with each other or pretending to be mad at each other when one of them was missing a shot :haha: it was soooo cute !

And there was the cutest of moments when they headed to the bench at 1-0 in the second set : Gaël actually bent down to take Gillou's bottle and give it to him with a smile and a pat on the neck, then bent down a second time to take *his* bottle and drink from it. Exactly like he didn't want his precious Gillou to risk hurting his back or something :haha: At that point I think I was drowning myself in a ocean of drool ahem.

I like that JoWi brought out the French, he can speak French to me anytime. ;) I really hope I get to meet Jo finally this summer, last year he missed a lot of the tournaments I went to since he was injured so long. :( I did see him at Bercy but since you can't watch practise there, it's harder to say Bonjour.

Eimear O'Mahony
03-14-2009, 11:27 PM

Great job Jo-Willy  Andreev next :bounce:

I would have say schoolgirl Tess :rolls:
Nah Eimear, Gaël knew Jo's match was going to be soon over so he told Zverev "let's hurry up" so he could buy popcorn and still catch some of Gillou's match

This chatthread is dead. We should bring it back to life

Most of the residents around here aren't really the chat type, so that's why there isn't much activity besides the tournament thread. :)

Eimear O'Mahony
03-14-2009, 11:46 PM
Yeah I heard that comment and thought it was a little strange myself   Oh yeah I'm sure Gael was like 'look for fuck's sake I have to go back to the hotel for my headphones and then I have to buy the popcorn. I'm going to be late dammit and Gilles is NOT going to be happy'

Eimear O'Mahony

Eimear O'Mahony
03-15-2009, 12:37 AM
I can change it back if you want Xavi, it's just Marion was saying if I was a 4 Musketeer fan why didn't I have Gael's name in my sig and it was the only way I could get it to fit. I didn't take the 2nd half because 1) It would be a DIRECT copy of yours and 2) It kind fits the whole G/G thing  Like I said though, if there's a problem I can change it

I hate how quiet it is in this forum:( I mean, Jo is one of the nicest players on tour (and one of the most successfull this year so far), but still it's so quiet!!:(

I was thinking the other day, do we know what kind of music Jo likes? Who are his fav artists?

DanaKz

I would be happy to talk about Jo, about Jo's favorite things and about his plans, but I know nothing about it, because all news I get from here :D
I am "absolute zero" in French, if you know what I mean. And English part of Internet is not very lavish with news about Jo.

Tess Gray
04-10-2009, 10:40 AM
Oh I know! I'd love to talk about Jo 24/7 but the truth is, I don't know that much about him. Quite embarassing because he is definitely one of my fav players:lol: So shame on me. I guess some of the Frenchies around here could tell us loads about him... *hinthint*

Tsonga and fellow tennis player Gaël Monfils would practice together and spend hours trying to develop a serve like Andy Roddick's.
Both of Tsonga's parents now work as teachers in France. Tsonga also has an older sister, Sasha, and a younger brother, Enzo, who is a part of the French junior basketball program.
Players on the ATP circuit have nicknamed Tsonga "the Muhammad Ali of Tennis" due to his striking resemblance to Muhammad Ali, who is one of his heroes. Tsonga is coached by compatriot Éric Winogradsky.

From wiki, knew most of that anyway :p

Yeah that's the basis of it I think. His father is from the Congo. Apparently Jo suffered from racism back in Africa because they found it hard to accept his mixed-race heritage. They didn't like the fact he had a white Mam which is horrible. Poor Jo

What do you want to know ?

I have no idea about his musics taste, I only know that Gilles once said that himself, Jo and Gaël all had as far different music tastes as possible  so, no rap imo.

He's from a sporting family. His brother plays in the French basketball team, his father was an international handballer and his grand father who was a famous volleyball player invented the smash serve  He also has a cousin who plays football, Charles N'Zogbia.

Eim, come on, he never lived in Africa, he visited Congo last year for the first time to meet his grandfather...

Xavier, she never said that. But it seems he got problems when he first went to Congo, people talking about why he wasn't playing for Congo instead of France.
Being of mixed-race can sometimes be even worse than being white there.

I never said Jo ever lived in the Congo Xavier come on!!! I said his FATHER was from the Congo NOT Jo ... Read my message properly and THEN comment! And it was during this visit to his grandfather that he was subjected to a little racism or so Marion tells me and I'm sure she can back me up on this!!!

I remember Jo's siblings - they were in Bercy. And all of his family too. I wonder: Were these two old guys near to them Jo's Grandpas? They were dancing like they are. :D

Maybe there was Jo's mum's father, but I don't think there was his father's father because he lives in Congo and never left it :)

I think it's derived from the movie The Terminator. It's just a little nickname I guess. It doesn't really mean something. As far as I know anyway:shrug:

Yup yup Bashak, it's true :) I don't remember where I had read it but his grandpa is a big star amongst the volleyballers :)

Tsonganator  I guess it's another nickname, in the Tsongamania kind :)I think they began to call him that after Bercy, to emphase the fact that nobody could resist him

Maybe he likes cheesy lovebirds songs Tetta, who knows
