I would rather him skip too as well Jen, and instead really focus and reenergize for the Masters cup. Nonetheless, I can see how he would like to give himself another chance to not end a season without a masters series title.

Absolutely, Roger is just too professional any way, he usually never withdraws from a tournie without a very good personal reason.

Nonetheless, it would be best if he skipped Paris.

I agree that Soderling is no walk-over, but I consider Murray to be a far greater threat to both Roger and Rafa. And face it, you don't REALLY believe that Soderling is a great threat to Roger, do you?
In the end it's always the same thing: whoever your opponents are, you must beat them all. A lot of us moaned about Roger's Madrid draw, but in the end there was just ONE problem, and that fellow is happily parked on the OTHER side of the draw this time. Yes, I consider that a 'lucky' draw.

I hope Roger skips Paris.

I don't. Getting back his confidence is most important for Roger right now, and Paris might well be an excellent opportunity for him to achieve just that. He will have plenty of time to recuperate for Shanghai thereafter. But we'll just have to wait and see - whatever he and his team decide, I'm sure it's the proper decision.

Well, I don't think that top 4 players are going to live up to their rankings in this tournament. It remains to be seen if Murray is capable of reaching the SF/F 3 weeks in a row.

Of course, upsets can happen, especially now at the end of the season. But as of yet, I haven't seen any weaknesses in Muzza's playing this week. Looks like he's in the form of his life right now.

As for Nadal's 'easy' draw, apart from Muzza, I see Tomas Berdych, Sam Querrey, Juan Martin Del Potro, Mario Ancic, Ivo Karlovic and David Nalbandian there - might just be me, but all of these players are pretty good on HC (when in form, of course), so him reaching the SF easily surely isn't a given to me.

He lost to Murray in Madrid after winning the 1st set. This year is pretty much over. Whatever happens tomorrow I think he should play TMC and that's it. No exhos either!! I don't think playing Paris means anything.

As far as Nadal getting Murray, well he can't face him until the SF and seeing as Murray will have just won 2 tournaments who knows if he'll even show up or if he does how far he'll go. I'm sure he'll want to save himself for TMC.

This is a typical draw for Nadal. One or maybe two tough players which make people go 'ooh he's got a tough draw'. But those players aren't in his quarter so by the time he makes the SF they're either knocked out already or dead tired. US Open was an exception.

Might it not be that Rafa wants to save himself for the TMC as well? He's been complaining about his shoulder in Madrid, just to name something...

It's still an even draw imho, and I still regard Muzza as THE threat for him. And btw, did YOU expect him to lose to Simon like he did in Madrid?
In short: anything can happen.

Federer delights home crowd with hat-trick victory (Sport.scotsman)

ROGER Federer warmed up for the Paris Masters by winning his hometown tournament for a record third straight year by beating Argentine second seed David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-4 in the Swiss Indoors final.

Not an official confirmation, but I get this feeling he'll indeed play Paris. :D

I think there's some sense in the comment made on GM that it might just look like that due to the camera angle (first time EVAH that that particular poster makes sense, btw ). We'll surely hear the players' comments about it if it is THAT bad.

ATP - ROGER CONFIRMS PARIS

Dear Fans

I have decided to play the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris this week.

I am feeling great after a third consecutive win in my hometown Basel. It was a terrific week and I would like to thank all of you who came out to the tournament to support me. The Swiss Indoors have really been one of the highlights of this season so far.

Hopefully things will continue to go well in Paris; I’m looking forward to seeing lots of you there!

Au revoir
Roger

We'll surely hear the players' comments about it if it is THAT bad.Apparently it was sped up from last year because they players requested it. What I don't get is why they ever changed the surface in the first place. If it is faster than last year I can't tell. And I think it's the same camera angle.

Let's hope so Venla. :yeah:

His draw is actually pretty decent the only toughie and tricky opponent yet Roger always finds a way to beat him generally and Soderling always finds a way to lose to Roger even while leading in sets or a match. He should definitely find his way into the semis if he brings the same form from the last two matches in Basel.

 - yeah I saw that.
Let's just conclude that our current #1 and #2 are trying to outdo eachother at playing the Drama Queen currently. I'm having a hard time at believing ANYTHING either of them tells the press lately. :pI know you won't agree with me on this one, but Team Nadal does it on a regular basis. In Madrid it was Uncle Toni saying he was 90% sure Nadal wouldn't complete his match, then he ends up playing for over 3 hours and damn near wins the match. That's why I  every time I hear it. But what gets me is the media & the tennis reporters still report it as matter of fact rather than questioning if it's BS or not.

Well, he didn't get too see a lot of Shappa lately, so he moved his attention to Caroline Wozniacki. Can't really blame him on that... :p

Oh, you have never heard me say that I didn't think that '90% chance he won't end the match'-comment was utter bs. Rather the contrary, I posted that I really didn't understand why Uncle Toni came up with that crap... just like the 'career-threatning knee injury early this year' - :retard: CRAP.

But what gets me is the media & the tennis reporters still report it as matter of fact rather than questioning if it's BS or not.

The media pundits report what they think the crowd wants to hear/read. And as is most often the case with a New #1 having had such an incredible season, criticism is not (yet) on the agenda for now. The only explanation I can think of. Just give it time...

BTW, I can well understand Rafa being tired after the season he's had this year, so it might even well be true. You might reply to that, "Roger has had FOUR of those seasons", and that's very true indeed, but well... not every player is (even close to) Roger Federer! ;)

i dont agree with you in this point :rolleyes:Roger didnt make any fake excuses before Nadal is the one he used to make such things

Tell that to the morons who keep up digging his mono and claim it is/was an excuse... ;)
I agree that Team Nadal should indeed cut it down, let that be obvious.

Nadal should really stop overplaying if he's so tired and he would actually be in better shape for the masters cup too. I guess he'l learn how to better manage his schedule after this successful but exhausting season.

Yes, and where the hell are Roger's???
Forehand is terrible today as well.

It remains a mistery to me why everything that worked so well yesterday against Soderling is completely absent today. This level is not getting him to the final! :o

A very very bad match indeed. WTA-esque. Sorry, I always try to be friendly, but the only reason why Roger got back that second break was because Cilic was even worse...

Hopefully tomorrow a Soderling-like performance from Roger!

well guys we must keep in mind that fed has played like 11 matches in less than 3 weeks now, only 1 less than Murray.

I'm expecting him to lose because of tireness at any time. I just hope he doesn't lose to blake again!

Roger's 10th match v Blake - will be the first between them in European ground.

not counting 2000 doubles match at Wimbledon.

Didn't get to see any of the match or live score. On rf.com they're saying he looked bored out there and only really raised his level when he had to.

If it was that bad today I hope he can raise his level tomorrow. I didnt' want him to play Paris but now that he is I don't want to see someone like Blake take him out. :o

I am glad they did not air this match this morning. Was it scheduled for early during the day? I think or at least of the little I've seen of Cilic, he has that kind of game that drags you to his level. :tape: :o Fed probably realized I don't need to do much and I could still win without all the effort. :o

I know Jen, that would be inconceivable. Roger better step it up and settle matters as I said in the gen thread, Blake has to return to his former "bitch" "pigeon" status. :o

Hi Luis!

It was the fourth match on centre court.
Cilic... I am speakless. If you think Karlovic is a giraffe trying to play tennis, you should most definitely check out this fellow. Apart from his serve, barely any technique, most noticable his very 'special' FH - some loopy movement with his wrist.

Hopefully indeed, Fed thought, 'okay, that guy will combust by himself, let's just fool around a little'. He'd better come up with something better tomorrow! The last one still around I'd like to see out there beating Roger... must be Blake. :o

Some in GM were saying he looked bored. Maybe he's at the point right now where he is a bit jaded and he'll only kick it into high gear when he has to.

Anyway at least he won and defended his points from last year.
