The Main draw is out and David is seeded 6, he's in the same side of the draw of Federer and they could meet in SF. He'll play Youzhny in the first round. In the second, the winner between a qualy guy and Daniel Nestor.
Vamos David!!! :bounce:

It's a great draw with some good looking 1st round matches like Ferrero v Santoro and Henman/Zabaleta. Youzhny is a tricky player - you never know if he is going to be absolutely brilliant or bloody awful :p Let's hope he brings his awful game to the court in Toronto!!! And - why has Duckboy got a qualifier again

To be honest, I think David's draw is much better than Roddick's. I really hope he can meet Coria in the QF, they owe each other to play in another surface besides clay. I think the match can be very interesting and I have a feeling someone different will win this time. I like this draw...;)

He does have a nice draw, but still tricky. I hope he can get off to a confident start on his comeback against Youzhny. Vamos! :D

The only serious problem i see in his draw is Grosjean, which he'd have to playe very early. And of course lack of matches might hurt him here, and may get knocked out early. I really hope that dosent happen, because i want to see him and Coria play on a surface other than clay for once. If they do meet, i really think David should win this one, and probably in straights. But there alot of interesting 1st rd matchups. Roddick has it easy early, but wait till he plays Henman. All in all this should be an interesting tournement, and i can gaurentee you we wont be seeing Roddick holding that trophy again next sunday. :)

I heard David is going to also play the doubles event. His partner is going to be Marat Safin, and in the first round he's going to play the two Israelis - Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich.

LOL - David and Marat!!!!! That should please all the Marat fans that don't like David since the infamous Davis Cup incident!!!!! Must say I'm surprised if David IS playing doubles - I thought he would prefer to conserve his strength after injury rather than play in a doubles tourney when they have Cinci and the Olympics still to come!! And equally surprised that if he is playing, he has chosen to play with someone other than Coria! Can't say I'm sad about that though :p - because you're right Sigma - you will never, ever, EVER make me a fan of the whingeing, whining "tramposo!" :p

Well, I heard him in the interviews and he repeated over and over again that he's feeling great, that's why it doesn't surprise me that he's playing doubles. I read in the newspapers that Coria is still having some problems with his shoulder that's why he can't serve well and the reason why he's not playing doubles with David. I guess David wants to practice some double matches, he hasn't played not even one this year.
I would love to see this match, but I'm sure ESPN would do anything they can to avoid this :(

Wow - David playing with Roger sounds like a great idea Fedex. As to the other questions here - well - I'm on my way to work now but, Raquel - I will PM you later in the day - I don't want to go into all that here because it's a bit of a long story. But you have reminded me to go and delete the offending sentence now - I had forgotten about it!!!!!

And yupperz007, - when Russia played Argentina in the DC in 2003, the story goes that Marat travelled but then couldn't play due to injury, and David was reported to have said that he was just "scared" of playing the Argentines in Buenos Aires!!!! A lot of Marat fans loathe David because of this (a very good friend of mine runs theguyfromrussia.com so I've read loads of the things they say!), but I've always thought it was hype and taken out of context. I've seen David and Marat together lots of times at tournaments and they always seem friendly and get on well. Hope that helps.

well, one of my roger fan said that after roger lost to david in QF US Open last year, he burst into anger, and even threw the chairs in the rest room, a kinda of mad to that lost. and Roger said after US Open that:"If someone who have beaten you 5 times, do you think you would like to give him the Christmas wishes?" Stadium start 11:00 AM
(9)L Hewitt (AUS) vs R Nadal (ESP)
Not before 1:00 PM
(Q)J Benneteau (FRA) vs (2)A Roddick (USA)
(15)M Safin (RUS) vs N Kiefer (GER)
Not before 7:30 PM
(1)R Federer (SUI) vs H Arazi (MAR)
M Youzhny (RUS) vs (6)D Nalbandian (ARG)

i think his match will be shown by ESPN, coz it's arranged in stadium court this time in the night session, following roger's match.

after i heard that rest room thing, i really doubt the lost will produce roger's sth against david. but now, yeah, i agree that although can't say they are good friends, roger and david get along well, respect each other.

Haha Federer called Nalbandian's game "contra tennis" which roughly translates to ugly tennis. TENNIS Magazine compared David to Brad Gilbert, some1 who takes few risks and digs deep to find ways to win. The previous survey asked which Slam Nalbandian would win first. I'm surprised dat no1 thought he could win at Flushing Meadows. After all, he matches up favorably against Federer, and he had Andy on the ropes last year in the U.S. Open semis. he blew a two set lead and a match point in the third set. He has what it takes!!!! It would have been awesome if Argentina would've beaten Belarus in Davis Cup, cuz then we could have an awesome U.S.- Argentina showdown.

Don't worry jazz an Argentine 5-0 beat up of the USA won't be far away especially in B.A.

That Tennis Magazine is stupid David already has a better record at Slams than Gilbert, and has shown more all-round versatility than Gilbert could ever accuse. I don't doubt David isn't the most popular, but he would have to be better than Gilbert.

It's called "ugly" because he doesn't serve his opponents off the court, like certain people do. He is not afraid of anybody, and that, in and of itself, is more intimidating than a big serve.

Wilander never played beautiful tennis, but it was tactically fantastic and mentally strong and it was very effective and successful tennis, then again some people cream over 255 km/h serves and that's beautiful tennis to some.

Obviously serve isn't david's weapon. His big weapon is his stability. I love to see david isn't afraid of anyone, instead, he is good at dealing with someone like Roger or Andy. Can't wait to see David-Roger showdown in the 1/4 final! :wavey: :worship:

I still really wish David had a better serve though - it is my one serious problem with his game. I never feel comfortable when he is serving, and even if he has a break of his opponent's serve I don't feel secure. OK - and now it is my turn to have a rant. I love David - I think you all know that here - and I don't mean to be cruel, but if he doesn't start to SERVE better very. very soon, then he will NEVER be as good a player as he should be, and it is making me alternatively sad and angry  . No one of his calibre shuld lose a 4-1 final set lead to a player like Youzhny (no offence to Youzhny, but he's not a star player), but David did because he cannot be relied upon to hold his damned serve. He served far too many double faults, hardly got any first serves in as far as live scoring showed, and very few aces. I was over at my Board with several other people and even when they were all happily saying "David's 4-1 up!", I KNEW it was only one service break and that means nothing with him.   I don't know what the solution is because I'm not his coach thank goodness (I've already said that if I was I would probably strangle him!), but they MUST do something and do it fast. OK - sorry for the rant - goodnight!

I know what you mean Rosie, about David's serve. He is a tall, strong guy and probably could get a lot more free points off it than he actually does. When I saw 4-1 I must admit, I did think it was over which is unusual for me but as soon as it got back to 4-4 it was inevitable what would happen

I hope he starts playing more tournaments, he needs some practise! Maybe if he should go to Cinci right now and start playing there, there are a lot of top players that could join him...

And I've heard David being compared to Mats Wilander too, so he's not in bad company.

Well he could learn some things from Wilander like who never had a huge serve, but got plenty of them in and placed them very well and didn't serve doubles at crucial moments.

From what I have read previously I agree with GWH that David needs high-altitude fitness training in the off season and maybe some fitness workouts with Thomas Muster.

His fitness level is something he can control and improving his serving is another thing as well, though he just needs to play more matches and if he can have an injury-free rest of the year, he had chances, but can't win them all.

And he needs to work on those nerves as well, if you don't mind my saying so.

Maybe he needs Anthony Robbins or Gaudio's psychologist, plus he might need to relax some more when he is on court.

well, as he is out of court for such long time, the result is not tooooooooooooooo surprised.............(but i do feel "surprised" when he lost the 3rd set once leading 4-1) i heard the interview in official website, is the sun factor really influenced? i think maybe he should play some warm up tournaments before the big ones, learn to be familiar with how to play games again. hope he didn't forget how to play hard surface
ahWWWWW, what a pity about this rare better draw!!!!
Jazz!!!! Today's terrible morning for me though!!!! :(

BTW, where's spanish forum? is it the spanish players' forum here?

I think that we have the idea that even when heīs out for a long time his return is always a victory, but the true is that it canīt be like this always....I think that he just need more time in a competition to recovered his concentration, is the only thing that he lost in the 3th set, he let the focus in the sun and was out of the match....
Well, next stop...Cincinnati, right?!?!?

Vamos David!!!

I agree that his nerves are becoming a problem Sigma - whenever he is serving for a set or a match he gets nervous, and because his serve is his worst shot anyway, - it all goes to pieces. A Sports Psychologist probably could help him a lot, but from what I know of David, I don't see him agreeing to that at the moment. My main idea is that he really ought to start entering into some more, smaller tournaments. He NEEDS the confidence that comes from winning tight matches and some trophies too, and will have more chance of doing this in smaller tournaments with lesser opposition. Even DuckBoy enters small tourneys in the US where he is the only top player, but although we sneer it does give him points, match fitness AND confidence. So next year I would love to see David in Kitzbuehel, or Estoril, or one of the smaller US tournaments - he is not a "legend" like Agassi who can afford to pick and choose his tournaments and that isn't even working for him now.

And I agree wholeheartedly with you on that. Maybe if he would consider doing that, then he would have the confidence he needs to start winning more. And that's nothing to sneer at....

Plenty of time for David to improve on his 2 title victories, it would help if he could get one this year.

Jazz_girl, thanks for offering to help me with compressing this photo. Sorry I didn't send this to you because I thought the picture was pretty bad and it's not worth your time. Here it is anyway, compressed small enough to be posted here. If anyone wants the original size photo (still a pretty bad photo), just send me your email address and I'll send you a copy.

David and Marat in their first round doubles match. And I added another photo taken after they had lost.

I didn't end up seeing their doubles match, since it got moved to center. I also only saw the end of David's match, from 4-1 in the third :( He played the same time as Rafael, so I had to choose :(

I saw him practice earlier in the day, though. There are 4 practice courts side by side, and you can only stand along side one of them. So on the second one over, I saw Coria. I came over to sit and watch him for a bit. I pull up a chair, look to my right, and there is David right on the first court. I got my pictures back today, and a couple of them are pretty good. I will scan them ASAP. LIkely next week after exams
