ARGENTINE tennis player Guillermo Canas has been robbed outside his parents home in Buenos Aires.

The incident occurred in the the early hours of Tuesday, as he left the home in the Buenos Aires suburb of La Matanza.

Two armed attackers who reportedly did not recognise Canas threatened the player and took one racket he was carrying, along with his identity documents, credit cards, some cash and a chain he wore.

They fled in Canas' convertible.

Over the weekend, the tennis player had been part of the Argentine team that beat Russia in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup in Buenos Aires.

When he was attacked, Canas was leaving his parents' home after dinner.

Glad he's ok and didn't try any Chuck Norris moves.

Old news.
It was all over the Internet last week.

However, it is not something which people should be making fun of.
Do you know how many of this robberies could end with killings?

Who is making fun of it? He did what you are supposed to do, when there is a robbery or a mugging.

It was like, a super deluxe zillion dollar Mercedes convertible, supposedly only 3 of them in the country, and they found it soon after completely torched.

what was the point to destroy the car? rob it and sell the parts or something, but burn it?

Actually a sensible thing to do if such cars were really that rare. Would be easy to trace back to the robbers if they actually decided to sell it to someone.

Maybe when they realized they'd stolen a car there are only 3 of in the whole country, they figured it would be hard to get rid of it, even in pieces. Or maybe they were afraid willy would send Maradona after them and just wanted to get rid of it toot sweet.

still, is stupid and Cañas should know better than hang around in that kind of cars in BA, if you are in La Recoleta or in Puerto Madero is ok, but going with that to LA MATANZA? is like having a neon sign saying: ROB ME, I'M AVAILABLE

Cañas must be really grateful nothing happened to him, it could have been way worse

La Matanza isn't that bad, you are making out to be like the favelas in Rio or La Boca. Robberies and muggings can happen anywhere, if they want to do it, then they will do it.

Reason nothing happened, is that he gave them what they wanted as quickly as possible.

La Matanza is big, actually the biggest partido of the Buenos Aires Province, and Tapiales is not that bad. But some other places in La Matanza are probably among the most insecure places in Argentina. It's very big, there is everything in there.

I don't think so, one of the articles I read said he'd only had it a couple of weeks.

Yes, I knew it was part of Buenos Aires province, just a large part. Of course I don't which part Cañas's parents live in, though you'd think it wouldn't be the worst part of La Matanza.

Well he was able to travel to Metz and everything is sorted. This thing isn't uncommon in South Africa or parts of Brazil, but if it's going to happen, then it will.

do Cañas parents live in Tapiales? not so bad a place, where the Central Market is, but still things like La Tablada and Ciudad Evita are pretty close (been robbed thrice in these two and I'm not rich  )

El Gran Buenos Aires is not precisely the safest region right now, and Cañas simply gave his car in a silver plate

Yes, they are from Tapiales.

La Matanza alone has a bigger population than many Provinces. And there are wealthy and very very poor areas. That social inequality is what makes a place specialy dangerous.

Compare the size of La Matanza with the one of the Capital (in white):

Why does this clown ^^ always go round threads and say that, if you dont care dont post, simple as that. Who do you think you are? What would be left in general messages according to you? 90% of the stuff would be deleted or shoved somewhere where nobody can see it.

Driving a car like that in the evening around a city like Buenos Aires, you're subject to these things.

If you want to have such luxury cars, better move somewhere safer like Monaco or Dubai, or only get them out of the garage on the weekend and under broad daylight, like most people do where I live.

So glad he is ok. With his racket being taken he was probably trying it out, could of been the reason he lost in Metz. I would be more upset with my papers being taken and no he didn't win a car that was Del Potro.

With the gold chain it is prolly the one he has had for ages the gold racket.

Let's face it he has prolly driven his car to his parents place loads of times and nothing has happened to it. He was just unlucky. So happy that he is ok as he seems like a nice guy.
