US Open 'Battle of the Boards' Pick 'em Contest

Just to let you know that entries for the 2008 US Open 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em contest are now open at http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html - for those of you not familiar with these comps, they are a bit like the 'bracket challenge' that the ATP do for AMS events, but they've been going longer (a year and a half now), they are friendler and they have a team element as well as an individual competition.

MTF last had an individual winner in one of these contests exactly a year ago, when Amalyn won the 2007 US contest, and MTF last won the teams league at the 2008 Australian Open.

Qualifiers have already been placed in the draw on the entry form, which is now final barring any late withdrawals.

Please note that while entries from the top 250 in the overall pick 'em rankings at http://www.britishtennis.net/pickem/ranking.htm?n=1 will be accepted right up to the deadline at 15.00 GMT / 4 pm UK / 11 am US EDT (as long as they enter with exactly the same name as before so that their ranking is picked up or email to warn us that they have changed), there is a 500 limit on the total number of entries we can handle at the moment.

In the (unlikely but not impossible - we had over 400 entrants for Wimbledon) event that we reach that limit this time, entries from those outside the top 250 will be accepted on a first come first served basis to fill the remaining 250 slots plus any slots not taken up by top 250 players. You can track how entries are going at http://www.britishtennis.net/pickem/2008uole.htm?n=1

Do have a go, whether or not you have entered before, and remember to pick "MT" as your team if you do enter ... unless you prefer to be bribed by Tennisopolis to play on their (frankly quite ropy) team :) (see the other BOTB thread)

The US Open is already here, so NOW is the time to come make your picks in the US Open Bracket Challenge (http://www.tennisopolis.com/forum/topic/show?id=1869403%3ATopic%3A158186) sponsored by Avery Tennis.

Little known facts:
1. It's free.
2. It's fun.
3. The Grand Prize for first place on the Tennisopolis team is a new Avery M3 Control racquet.
4. Do I need any more reasons?
5. It's more fun to follow the tourney when you have points at stake.
6. Bragging rights.
7. OK, I'm all out...

Come fill in your bracket, more info here (http://www.tennisopolis.com/forum/topic/show?id=1869403%3ATopic%3A158186).

The day 1 results are now up at http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html - they'll be updated frequently throughout each day from now on.

MC is the top MTFer at the moment in 16= out of over 450 entrants NyGeL and Drikke from MTF are also in the top 100 and your team of 15 is currently 10th.

Not your best ever start, but there's a long way to go yet!

hmm I submitted an entry but I'm not on there :/

Sorry to learn about this. There are four possibilities:

1) Yours is one of three unclaimed entries we've got that were submitted with no name on them.

2) Your entry reached us but wasn't transferred to the entry database (the form generates an email for each entry and we manually paste the details from each email into the entry database)

3) You didn't hit send or didn't wait for the entry successful page to come up (seems unlikely given that you have entered successfully before)

4) There's a very small chance that your entry got lost in the ether and never reached us.

Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about 3) or 4), but in case the reason was 1) or 2), please can you let me know (preferably by emailing btpickem@hotmail.com) approximately what day and time you entered (and which time zone that time is in) and who your semi-finalists were?

The day and time will help to narrow down the list of emails we need to re-check or identify whether any of the nameless entries might be yours and the semi-final picks will help us confirm that a nameless entry is yours if any of them came in at about the right time.

So am I ... oh dear.

The pressure of being defending champion, eh, amalyn. ;) Not so bad now anyway - you got 15/16 correct yesterday and shot up 140 places! The MTF team ended R1 in 4th place with Ivanatis your top player in the individual so far, in 6th=.

Congrats to MC from MTF who beat 455 other entrants to win this by quite a margin, keeping the individual USO BOTB title in MTF hands after amalyn's win last year.

The MTF team was 9th out of 13, not quite so hot, but you did beat the Gasquetaires, the Ducklings from andyroddick.com and the 132-strong Tennisopolis team.
