Kei doesn't get a WC?

He will definitely get a WC.

The wildcards have not yet officially been announced.

Nishikori will get in as first alternate after one player withdraws -- he almost certainly won't need a wildcard.

That's true. In this way, the organisers will save all wildcards for four other players. Japanese players most likely.

Last year the four wildcards were Japanese too. However, Ferrer had not signed up and was a very late addition to the field because of some obscure ATP rule that allows a late replacement if a top player withdraws at the last minute (I think it was Federer). Ferrer went on to win the tournament.

Not great list as it used to be few years ago, but still very , very good.
It would be great for tournament if Kei wins at least two rounds here.

With Nishikori and Soeda already in, the organization will have plenty of wildcards to spend.

Matsui is still in the qualifying draw, I am assuming that he will be taken out and has been given a main draw wildcard. Tatsuma Ito probably also has one.

Maybe he wants to avoid the shame of another beating by Tsonga.
He'll be replaced by Viktor Troicki.

Sure, players often withdraw because they don't like their possible 3rd round opponent.
^^

Monfils had shoulder problems again in Bangkok, it was reported in L'Equipe. They're afraid it's the same problem as in Nottingham & Wimbledon.

Thanks, I think it's minor, but it makes sense to get it checked up after having missed Wimbledon already because of a similar problem.

I agree it's not of general interest, I was just responding the comments he might be chickening out because JWT is in his part of the draw - the official reason ("right shoulder") seems perfectly genuine.
