I watched most of Rafa's match pretty entertaining, mainly because of Phau who really went for it. Some horrible tennis by the boy from Mallorco. When I got home from work last night I had the good fortune:rolleyes: of having Young-Blake on my tv. Made me forget all about Rafa's mess-up.

Q. So how was today's match and how was Nishikori?

DAVID FERRER: He's a very good player, no? Young player, plays very well and serve really well. Good level, no? I like it much.

Maybe the fifth set I did my best point and he take the chance, no?

Q. How is your condition?

DAVID FERRER: My condition? Now I'm not too much happy, but it's okay, no?

I fight a lot, and Nishikori plays better than me I think.

Q. You won a terrific five‑setter against Nadal ‑ I might be mistaken ‑ last year.

DAVID FERRER: No, four sets.

Q. But nevertheless, do you relish a night match that really is a slugfest in the end, a very difficult match both ways, that lasts a long time?

DAVID FERRER: Last year is past and now is present. I think every match is different, no, different points, different conditions, and I don't think so.

Q. In the first two sets it looked like you were having some trouble returning his serve. Was it just too hard for you? Was it just hard to see?

DAVID FERRER: No, I don't know. Maybe the first set I was 4‑2 with break up, and I play so bad this game, no, with my serve.

I don't serve very well. Maybe in the fifth set I don't serve very well. I played very regular all the match. Sometimes good, sometimes bad.

But this is tennis and Nishikori plays pretty well.

Q. Did he surprise you in the first couple sets, like how high of a level he was playing?

DAVID FERRER: No, no. Because I know Nishikori won this year tournaments to Blake. No, I know surprise.

Q. He called the doctor, trainer. How did you think about it?

DAVID FERRER: I don't think nothing. I am focus on my game and for the next point, no?

I don't think nothing.

Q. Do you think you should have maybe called the trainer yourself?

DAVID FERRER: No, it's not a problem, no? It's the rules of the game, no? He can call to the training, and he did.

Q. Which shot made you difficult to play from Kei?

DAVID FERRER: Well, my forehand, no? I did ‑‑ I had big problems with my forehand and I did made mistakes, a lot of mistakes.

And him, no, maybe the backhand of him really well, no.

Q. Looked like you were getting a little unnerved out there and banging the racquet. Did it hurt you at all when you were getting upset? Do you feel like you were a little bit frustrated?

DAVID FERRER: It's normal, no? It's my mentality. It wasn't to be nervous. But if I don't stay nervous I cannot play very well, no? I need this one, and, no, nothing.

Q. Are you impressed with Nishikori? He's only 18 but he plays with a lot of poise, like he's 25 or something.

DAVID FERRER: He's a very good player, no? I know that. I was saw last year in Tokyo and I like it too much. It's not a surprise. For sure he will be a very good player, no?

alisia
08-31-2008, 09:59 AM
I stayed up until 3.45 to watch him :o Nishikori blew him off the court for the first 21/2 sets but I really did think that once he woke up he'd win :awww: at least he showed a bit of fight when he went a break down  thou he was very tetchy from the beginning  but we did get to see sulky stroppy Davy :inlove:

It was a nice match; he played quite well :yeah:

though we still had the drama of him trying to serve out

Verdasco next will face countryman and No. 10 seed David Ferrer, who finished strongly to come through an all-Spanish third-round encounter with Daniel Gimeno-Traver 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-2 in just under two hours.

“If you need to lose, it's better to lose against a Spanish player, then at least one guy is gonna be there one round more,” said Verdasco, looking ahead to the clash with Ferrer. “I'm happy. I hope to play good also the next round, keep doing my work and my job as well as possible. Trying to play the best to be in the quarter-finals like last year.”

Ferrer produced a solid display in contrast to his opponent, who was hindered by 55 unforced errors in his first appearance in the third round at a Grand Slam championship. The 28-year-old Ferrer is through to the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2007, when he went on to defeat Rafael Nadal en route to his only Grand Slam semi-final (l. to Djokovic).

Too bad for David! All in all, a pretty good U.S. Open for the Armada Boys! Rafa and Fernando play against each other in the quarters. Another hot Spanish affair!

At 45, I am old enough to be just about everyone's mother, too! Scary!

I still feel very, very sorry for David
On the other hand I am also glad for Fer, but I think by seeing the score David really would have deserved to win the match!

That was a choke, David. Guess I want Dasco, Stan, Nole or Robin to win now...

David, ah he played his heart out....
BUT... it's not official OK, but if you do the maths with the points gained from his USO performance, David is now #10!:worship:

VAMOSSS FERUUUUUU!!!!! :wavey:

Andreev is a though opponent, he pushed Federer to 5 sets in USO once. Hope David can win in 3

Beautiful timing with the hurricane winding down just in time. Beautiful day in NYC today. I got to day 4 of qualifying last week before the storm hit and watched Ferru practice for 2 hours first with Murray and then with Fish. Only inches away at some points. Had to stifle myself from doing a "vamos Daveed!" right in front of him. :) Beautiful compact man.

Am I the only one who doesn't think it will be that tough to beat Blake? I mean, anything can happen but I have absolute faith that David's mental hardware is superior to Blake's as is his fitness.

there's no denying that David is in MUCH better form than James. But James, you'll have to admit, has home court advantage- he knows that and he thrives on it. But like you, I think David will pull thru. :)

Hmmm , I can only remember one David-Blake match which Davey lost. Will have to check out h2h for the details. Blake is a bad matchup for David if you ask me. Also James is on a bit of a comeback (or at least he'll feel he is) and don't forget they're playing in the States. David in good form should definitely beat Blake, but is David really in good form?

I'm sure it will be an entertaining match though.:) Vamos David!:bigclap:

I knew you'd be happy Edda that your other fav player won! JCF did play superb.

I know I haven't posted a video of David for a long time, but I found this one and I had to share it. http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Media/Videos/2011/09/35/US-Open-2011-Wednesday-Interview-Ferrer.aspx I love his english (even though I'll admit it's a little puzzling to figure out what he's saying at times) He is a sweetheart.

Crossing fingers he will also beat Mayer (sorry, even if he is German, I can´t stand him at all!), but normally I guess it shouldn´t be a problem!
