Djokovic will end the year at number 2. I think Nadal will clinch year end number 1 when Madrid rolls along.

Sadly Djokovic will be number 2 very soon. As others pointed out, he's already surpassed Federer in the race, and given their current forms he should do better (possibly much better) than Federer in the rest of the season.

This is actually a good question. I would not be at all surprised to see Fed drop to three before (if) he pulls it back to together again. As for regaining #1, who knows, the next year or two should be extremely interesting in tennis. I think there are some ringers out there right now that could shake up the "fab 3" a little bit and we'll just have to see if they have the nerve to compete at that level day in day out.

Fed will be #1 again. I don't know when, but he will, and Joker won't gain that many points to overtake Fed. I doubt Joker will defend his US Open final. Joker will lose his place after the AO of 2009. He won't defend.

He doesn't need to defend all the points. It looks like he could make a huge gap ahead at the end of the year which should keep him safe and there would be some margin for failures.

Novak is better positioned to get to #2. I don't see Fed getting back to #1 this year.

Fed himself has said he wants to continue through the 2012 Olympics. I'll trust what I hear from the horses (or GOATs ;)) mouth.

I think that the main fight at TMC will be for the number 2 spot, between Djokovic and Fed.

Fed's intention is to retire on his turf, aka Wimbledon, at the Olympics in 2012. But if there is a chance that Wimbledon will no longer be his turf by then, he might call it quits. If he gets a guy like Cahill as his coach and gets in Touch with Tony Robbins, he might have an end of career a la Agassi.

Federer will be 31 for those olympics. That seems like a good time to retire.

To me, it would be surprising if Federer retired now I think he's enough of a competitor and has a high enough opinion of his own abilities to want to fight back. I think Federer will be around the top of the game for 2 to 3 more years. It just depends on how he weathers not being number 1.

this is essentially actually asking if Federer will be No.1 first, or no.3 first. I don't know, for me, no.2 is already a shock in itself, i don't think i can handle no.3 at the moment.

Even he try hard to lose all these points,but look what an amazing bloc No.4~No.10 are.:o No offense and I like some of them,but don't feel this scenario changes dramatically any time soon. Maybe Murray can be a solid No.4, if not higher, not sure.
