Good job Nole. Seems like he is picking up his level.

Gulbis looked like a brainless ballbasher at times.

They sure did throw their racquets down a lot  Gulbis went 0/3 for in break points.

Djokovic has booked his spot in the semi-finals, potentially meeting Nadal there.

Djokovic played good, but his attitude leaves alot to be desired.

Gulbis needs to work on his patience a bit more.

Pretty weak match from Gulbis..

Hmm... somewhere in one of my shelves I had a book named "How to construct points in tennis for dummies". I think I'll hand it over to Ernests, when he will be back in Latvia :)

I agree... Watched him in Zagreb this year... IMO more talented then Cilic but also very unstable as a player...

Congrat to Djokovic...

Yeah Gulbis looked really stupid out there. His game is still raw and needs alot of work but what talent he has.

I was impressed with Novak today he is almost back to his best. Almost.

Yes, he did seem to lose his temper at quite a few occasions. He surely must keep his head a lot cooler tomorrow, else he is TOAST.

Gulbis needs to work on his patience a bit more.

Obviously, but hey, the fellow is just nineteen... he will learn.

Anyway, congrats to Djoko for the victory, and kudos to Ernie for a very impressive run here at Cincy! :hatoff:

He is more likely to win with this temper than without it. He is an emotional guy. When there is no emotions being expressed, there is a problem

Gulbis has zero patience and always finishes the matches playing like a ballbasher. He's not a Junior anymore, he should remember that. Also he's a mental midget, he just was going to be broken and that's all, he was broken twice.

Djokovic is one of the most stupid players ever, that "C'MON" after the break in the second set just demonstrates that he's a prick.

PS: They both have throwed their rackets, completely unnecessary. They want to attract attention and that's why thay act in such an infantile and idiotic way. Pathetic and irrespectful.

Djokovic is absolutely broken mentally. Crisis will last and last...we must not expect anything significant from him in next few months. It's a shame...Fed is down, too. There's nobody to challenge Nadal at this moment.

Come again? Did I hear sawan's 'only I know tennis' opinion?

You may well be right here, I don't know. But most usually, getting pissed off like Djoko did during this match only leads to losing your concentration, and if there's ONE thing you shouldn't do when playing Rafa, it's exactly THAT.

Gulbis was nursing a knee injury in this match, yeah?

He was, but I don't think it was anything really serious.

Congratulations to Novak. I am happy he proved me wrong and one. Now there is no stopping him to getting the title. As much as I hate it when rafa loses, but for me Djokovic is the favourite. I am happy if Rafa makes it to the semi's anything beyond that is a bonus.

He was, but I don't think it was anything really serious.

Well, actually his knee has problems since the Davis Cup tie in Macedonia, which was in February. It got a bit more severe after Wimby. That's why he didn't participate in Bastad and wasn't doing anything tennis-related in the time period of 2 weeks after Wimby. I think there were no very serious problems, but perhaps he's feeling his knee a bit after 4 matches on hard court within 5 days.

I think it'll be alright. He needs to rest his knees a little bit. However, he wouldn't have done better today even he had no problems with the knees at all.

It was an okay match, lots of WTA-esque tennis from Gulbis. No strategy in sight.

Just glad Djoker found a way to win, which is sometimes tough against guys like Ernie that give you no rhythm. Aside from the one outburst, he stayed very focused. All the best against Rafa, man. :yeah:

By the way, I completely agree about Novak needing to be emotional to play well. He isn't going to be the type that can just forget about a bad shot and move on. He is the type of player that expresses his anger about missed shots but is then able to re-focus and learn from his mistakes. Great for such a young guy.

I think that's true. I thought Gulbis was surprised by how focused and well Djokovic played today. I think he thought, given how tight the FO match was, that he was going to be able to control the match more or atleast stay closer then he did on a hard court.

You are right, Novak is the first person ever to yell encouragement to himself when winning an important game. I have never seen Nadal, Ferrer, Roddick, etc. do any of that. He should be banned from the tour.

I guess he must be the first one to throw his racquet as well. That attention seeking drama queen.

Seriously, you guys just love grasping at straws. You could probably make a living out of it if you tried hard enough.

Novak still isn't looking impressive at all and he wears this weariness expression too much lately. He better snap out of it otherwise Rafa's going to cream him.

Gulbis intrigues me. I will have to jump on his bandwagon soon, I hope there's still room.

Just too stable from Djokovic. He pushed more than attacked and against Erno, pushing (unless your name's Boredo) causes him headaches. Spot on tactics.

Erno needs to be a little more patient and learn construction is the name of the game, he still has the touch and hands to learn this, he's only 19.

Gulbis has all the weapons to be a big player he just needs to work more on a gameplan and have an idea of what he really wants to do out there and how he needs to get it done. A quarterfinal in a masters series loss while keeping the score respectable is hardly a clown performance
