Murray vs. Karlovic: WWW?

I have no idea who will win this one.

Murray is playing the best tennis in his carrer, but then again, so is Karlovic.

If forced to guess i'd say Karlovic in 3.

But I'm not sure at all.

It's 50/50 IMO.

Who will win this one?

Murray LOVES this type of player.

I cant wait to see karlo's face when his usual aces get returned to his feet.

I really hope muzza pulls it out, not only because im a fan of his, but karlo's style of tennis is the only style i hate. Sorry, it just bores the crap outta me.

Murray: 6-7 6-3 7-5

Probably end up going to three sets. Last time they met on hard, Murray returned really well and broke Ivo 4 times. Gotta go with Murray, but I wouldn't be surprised if Karlovic won. He has the potential to beat anyone when he's serving like he currently is.

Murray in 3 - this will be tough unless Karlovic helps out a bit with the serve.

Andy will have to be at his most razor sharp - grab any opportunities with both hands.

For Karlovic there's the knowledge that Andy has beaten him twice, once on an equally fast court (San Jose 2007) and on a slower one (Indian Wells 2008) and so he knows he will have to serve extremely well.

Tough match and it wouldn't be a major shock to see Murray lose if Karlovic keeps up these dominant serving performances.

He's at 72% first serves in his last two matches - that's damn tough to counter.

Murray loves this kind of opponents, however Karlovic's serve can be too much even for him to handle.
If both play their "average", Murray to win in 2. Lower the Karlo 1st serve % is, easier it will be for Muzza. :)

I have no clue. The only thing I can say we can be pretty sure about, is that it will be yet another TB fest.

Murray's issue with the two previous Karlovic matches have been his tactics in the rallies. He's hit Simon-like loops over the net, thinking Ivo is such a crap baseliner he can't hit winners, and been rudely awakened. He has to be aggressive on his games and move him around, while I feel he can get chances. Here's hoping it's a great match and Andy can finally make that AMS final.

He beat Ivo on those occasions. He serve and volleyed at IW this year. Karlovic was so open to that tactic.

True, but Andy lost his serve three times to him I think, which he should not do against Ivo.

He will get his chances to get a break at times, just gotta take one and then hold nerve. Ivo has never made a TMS final either, and he's known for his nervousness at the crunch moments, see their San Jose final when he choked a teensy little bit as he had the break in the 2nd on a lightning speed indoor ice rink.

One thing he has to do is watch the second serve placement to avoid Karlovic running around his backhand to try and land the big in to out forehand winner off the second delivery - he's hurt Andy with that in the past.

murray could be little tired as he is playing two consecutive weeks.
karlovic where is pretty fresh and confident in this event so far.
he is 5-0 in TB's this event.

it should be a close one. i'm hoping karlo in three.

If Karlovic continues to serve at the level he has, it will be tough for Murray. Absolutely NO mental lapses and he can pull it off. But when you're playing a guy where 2 mistakes can cost you a match, it will be tough. Best chance is if Ivo is a little off on that serve.

Opps, forgot. I'm ensuring Murray a victory, by picking Karlovic.

It is pretty much 50/50, but I hope Karlo will win it.
Nadal would murder Muzza in final, but I want to watch fight not beatdown. Dr.Ivo is toughest opponent for Nadal on fast court, in Queens Rafa couldnt brake him and Karlo won more total points and more points on Rafas serve than Rafa won on Karlos serve. Who else could make it so close against scary good Nadal? Joker today? I dont think so

You are delusional. NOBODY can do that to Karlovic's serve.

In the San Jose final Dr. Ivo was a set and a break up just to squander the match 7:6 in the decisive set.
It won't happen again.

Dr. Ivo 7:6 7:5

I don't even see why we have a poll when someone play Karlovic on a fast court + best of 3 match.

The answer should always be 50/50. Depends on Karlo's serve.

Muzza to finally make a long overdue TMS final appearance. :)

Perfect match-up for him but he needs to not get too careless when protecting his own serve. Those weak 2nd serves he produced against Moya will also get punished by the good doctor.

Damn
08-02-2008, 01:09 PM
Murray is a good returner, I agree with that, but we're talking about Karlovic's serve, the best serve on tour (in years) by far. His 1st serve average speed is around 135 MPH, and he'll hit around 25 aces (at least) in 2 sets and 30+ in 3 sets, so...

I really don't know who is gonna win this, it all depends on Ivo's serve. If Ivo is in AceFestDr.Ivo mode, it's gonna be a tie-breaker match, and Ivo uses to serve even better in the TBs, but if Murray manages to get 1 break per set, the match is his.

JIJ

Why is everyone discounting Karlovic's ability to break the Murray serve?

Murray has been prone to some ridiculous lapses on his own serve this week, especially early on in a match. Ivo's ground strokes could frustrate Murray and I think there's a real possibility he could snatch a break or two.

I fancy Ivo tonight.

Ivo has been broken only once so far (in this tournament of course). Fed did that. Don't believe Muzza could do more.
Fed led Ivo 6-0 until this last match, now it's 6-1. Statistics never gives an answer.

Murray is a much better returner than any opponent Ivo has faced so far.

Agreed. I think he probably has the best return on tour right now. The only problem is he is prone to throwing in some awful service games. I can see Murray getting broken tonight and breaking back. Karlovic broke him 3 tmes at IW and Andy broke him 4 times, so I can see there being a break or two.
