can Lapentti break the impressive 31 matches streak? Lapentti has the edge in an impressive H2H record standing at 1-0, a match he won in 2003 on clay.

he is too passive and wont be able to beat nadal at his own game

I'm already focused on the Nadal-Djoker semi. This clown tomorrow will provide Nadal a nice practice round.

Actually, if he beats Lapenti he will be guaranteed the #1 ranking on August 18th. Of course, he can get it sooner than that by progressing further, but we've waited 3 long years, we can wait three more weeks ;)

I think he needs to reach the final at least to be #1, I'm not sure though.

Yeeeeah, but...it would be great to have it on Monday. It would also be sort of symbolic if he won Cincy and took it that way-for Nadal and for Fed.

You see, as magnificent as Federer and his accomplishments are, it is only fitting that to finally be displaced would require 34 consecutive matches won, 6 straight tournament victories, the rare FO/Wimbledon combo, and Masters Series titles ranging from slow clay to ice-fast hardcourts.

This streak is already historic, whether he wins Cincy or not, but if he does it would be a storybook ending...This will be the toughest title for him too, so for all of these reasons a victory here and the resulting #1 ranking would be incredible... oh yeah, Nadal in two routine sets :rocker2:

No, check Judio's comments in the ranking thread. A win in Cinci would give Rafa the ranking on August 4th, a finals loss on August 11th and a semis loss on August 18th.

I agree, I'd love it to happen here. Cinci is in my opinion the hardest tournament of the year for Rafa, right after Canada, on super fast hard courts, and best of three so he can't wear opponents down like he can at the US Open. But he has already matched his best result ever here, and already score a major hardcourt title as part of this streak, so all I really care about now is that he wins his match tonight and secures #1, then he can get some well deserved rest. 32 is a nice number :D

nadal gets another lucky break here, anyone from ferrer to verdasco to even cilic would have given him more trouble. oh well,i'm sure his semifinal opponent will probably beat him.

If Nadal were to lose this match would possibly be the worst loss of his career. Lapentti wins no more than 5 games. Probably 3 at most. Mug era.

Lepentti will show nadal how to win without either ballbashing or moonballing.

well, the job to get the number is getting easier and easier for Nadal...you would suspect him to have a tougher time against better opponents, but when ge hets another mug to slaughter - this time ancient Lapenti...man oh man, that guy is lucky, out of all QF participants he has to get easiest one...

Don't underestimate Nico, he is intelligent and experienced player. After all he was number 6 in the world at one time. I can't forget when Lapentti brothers playing for Ecuador bt GB on grass. If I am not mistaken, Nico bt Rusedski but lost to Henman in the reverse sigles. For me anything can happen in any tennis match. I have seen so many upsets to make any predictions. All I can say is Rafa will try his best.

Brickwall Pong (for beginners) Vers.2.08 VS Brickwall Pong (for beginners) Vers.1.97

will be interesting to see how nadal goes up against an older model of himself... it may be quite freaky... altho he knows that Nico is not using any Spanish Anxiety Medications because his program was written in Ecuador... Nadal will most likely have no mercy on this older, outdated model...
