Very good performance overall. Some of his shots were unreal in the game you mentioned.

Why does Mitya bother to show up against Murray, in the first place? Andy keeps on defeating him even when playing like crap.

I think it's a good bet, especially with Federer out of sorts (down a set to Karlovic at time of writing).

Well done Andy :)

Dima not really at his best but to be honest I think he has a belief problem when it comes to Murray - in that he doesn't. He knows Andy knows where to put the ball to make life too difficult. And so it proved again - short slice again doing the damage. Taking charge nicely of some of the points himself on occasion, which is good to see continue - the aggressive mindset continues to develop slowly but steadily. Some great points early in the second to break and then stretch out the lead.

All in all, in spite of the brutal conditions with the heat and humidity, Andy played well, got it done nice and fast, and now he awaits Moya or Andreev who, as far as I am concerned, I hope go to 7-6 in the third. That would be nice.

Not sure about Murray winning the US Open. I'm struggling to envision Nadal losing. He is defending better than ever and he just doesn't make errors. His groundies are awesome, yet he plays with so much margin for error. I hope I'm proved wrong, but Nadal is looking pretty formidable.

I certainly think Murray is capable. He'll just need to play out of his skin if he meets Rafa.

Too soon for this kind of talk - let's see if he can even get beyond the fourth round. He should get into the QFs, perhaps even the semis if the draw works out - but no need to go overboard. I want to see steady progress.

I think the semis is a good bet, so long as he avoids Nadal's quarter. The last 2 weeks have been encouraging. Should he manage to get to the final this week, that will give him even more confidence for the Olympics and the US Open.

Uhoh - I see a bandwagon getting up a head of steam....

Okay in his half of the draw he would be favourite to come through but there's still some tough players out there. I would not want to have to play Karlovic on that court with those balls in those conditions. This is still no cakewalk by any means.

I didn't watch the match but from the results and your comments I can conclude that it was an easy victory for Murray.

Dima :smash: after beating Gasquet, I expected him at least to put up a good fight against Muzza

I wasn't going to say it but I was definately thinking it. :)

I want to see more matches with Andy going for the lines like he did in Toronto rather than pushing it up the middle of the court and getting punished by decent players. A few more matches playing like that and he might make a believer of me.

I think I prefered when he was being called a mug pusher. All of a sudden he's the 2nd best player in the world

Good win for Andy, and the draw has opened up beautifully. I won't count my chickens just yet though.

Spot on, I was thinking the same thing. If 6'10" continues to serve like he did today, he's going be a serious threat.

Okay so Murray beat Karlovic on a very fast indoor court in the finals of San Jose last year but that needed a final set tiebreak and though Murray is better now, I think Karlovic is too. Although for him the occasion of a SF, were he to reach it, might prove a factor.

Regardless, while I think Andy should see his way past Moya, I am not taking any match against Ivo for granted at all.

The good thing is that the Andy's return is the best part of his game. He broke Ivo 4 times the last time they played (on hard earlier this year). Still, it's always going to be nervy against Ivo. Put a few bad points together on serve and the set is gone the vast majority of the time.

Both of them have to get through the quarters first, though. Who knows, Moya might turn back the clock and Muzza might play a stinker. No point in looking too far ahead.

He beat him this year on hard, too. 3 set affair. Ivo won the first 7-6 and then Murray started serving and volleying. Ended up breaking him four times and I think Ivo broke Murray twice.

Always tight against Karlovic. Few sights more intimidating than him at the net. Talk about tough to pass.

Yeah I agree Moya has had alot of suceess in the past in Cincy and will be no pushover.
To be honest Fed would be easier for Muzza than Ivo in these fast conditions, but still the scot would be favorite.

But I am quietly confident for the 1st time ever that Muzzah is ready to win big. :D

If you can, let me know please. It was actually a very high quality match. There was a ton of serve and volley. Impressive to watch.

Andy is one of the best returners in the world, but if Ivo serves ridiculously again then there simply isn't that much he can do. He should make more returns than Federer did though.

The problem is his tendancy to throw in one dire service game a set. He can't really afford to do it against Ivo.

i didnt see any matches today... but, i can imagine what u mean... short slices to dimitri's backhand wing... unable to commit to the net with any authority... unable to generate rally opening power... this is why i like murray...
