E-Gul vs Blake

Gulbis takes on Blake tomorrow. Does E-Gul have the upper hand in this match? Its going to be serious slug fest as both like to knock the cover off the ball.

E-Gul has a full arsenal of weaponery for the fast hard courts while Blake has his "see ball, close eyes, and blast the damn ball" approach. I think E-Gul can take this one but he has to serve big and not choke like he did in Toronto.

Who wins this one and why? Thoughts? Smart remarks? Insults?

Please for the love of god Gulbis better win.

Just please don't get into a ballbashing war with Flake. I think he will though :(

This is very good posting style. Please people keep it up. Just type in who you think will win. Just like me and Rocketassist. You don't need to explain why, because the answers are predictable and limited to stuff such as "because have better backhand blah blah crap" then it revolves into a typical MTF post. So for example if you choose Ernest Gulbis, just say "Gulbis". If you choose blake on the other hand, say "Blake". Done :)

Blake is not in his best form, but the Cinci playing surface is ideally suited to his game. Gulbis has loads of talent, but he really doesn't have very good results on hard courts to date. What's his best win on hard courts to this point? Robredo at the U.S. Open last year? And what's his second best win on the surface? I'll pick Blake in 3 close sets, but I could easily see Gulbis winning.

Blake will win easily.

This is the best answer in fact as an alternative to just saying the surname of a player. Because this leaves you dangling in mid-air. People would usually ask "why do you think that?". But who really cares? It's just my opinion right? Whatever I say back you're going to counter? So I might as well just stick to this answer and never post again on this thread. :) Glenn you're the best.

E-Gul, as you know, had a great tournament at Roland Garros. i am still waiting for him to fully announce his arrival on the big stage at the masters events. he has to start making the quarters and semis on consistent basis now. the potential is there.

Hmmm, I'd say this one is a 50/50.

Which mean that Gulbis has the upper-hand.

Blake has mental issues.

If Gulbis gets into a ballbashing war with Blake, he won't win more than 6 games. He needs to use another strategy to have chances to win this match.

you are joking, right?

Gulbis losses this year on hard after the AO:

6-1 6-2 to Ginepri
6-4 4-6 7-6 to Nalbandian
3-6 7-6 7-6 to Davydenko
6-7 6-3 7-5 to Acasuso

so his last 3 losses were very close

E-Gul can out slug him. the deal with him is the lack of consistency. if he can be consistent, he can blast Blake off the court.

Blake 4&4. Tight sets with one break each, IF Blake keeps hitting his FH like he did yesterday. Most of the matches Blake plays, he controls his own destiny by slamming shots, and 2nd serve returns. However, I did see some controlled aggression out of him playing Simon. Maybe he learned something, but I doubt it will last for long.

Here's a tongue twister, say "break Blake" real fast 5 times. If you can't do it, then neither will E-Gul.

Blake will win this one, I think. Most likely in 2 sets (1 of them a tie-break).

This will be a very interesting match. First off Blake has not yet reached his best level of game, however I believe he can pick it up when he needs to. If he has one of this good days where the groundstrokes sits, he definately could take out Gulbis. Ernests on the other hand has problems with his consistency as Clay Death mentioned. Nevertheless, Ernests also knows how to step up against big players (Nadal at Wimbledon) and can definately be capable of taking this match.

If Blake takes the first set, I believe he will take the match. However, I'm pretty certain they will be going the distance!
