Cincy R2: Nico Lapentti d. David Ferrer 7-6(2) 3-6 6-3

Amazing, just amazing Nico :worship: :)

Both players were solid from the baseline, but Nico's variation, specially his slice, were decisive for this win. Very mentally tiresome match for both. Nico handled a bad finish of second set and a couple of break points in the start of the third set to pull this win off.

8/11 break points saved by Nico abd 3/6 break point conversions, in almost 2h25min of match.

Vamos Nico, you can go even further this week :)

VAMOS NICO, A GANAR!!!

2 really good victories out of nowhere for Nico.

Great to see him getting some results, it's always refreshing to see a player with a good tactical sense of the game pick up wins.

Pics is one of the fittest players on the tour but has lost this year two long matches against veterans (Hyung-Taik & Lapentti).

:yippee: It had exactly the outcome I had in my mind when Nico was fighting in the 3*-3 game in the second set. "He will win it, but only in three sets." :D

Ferrer needs to be at 110% physically to win matches on hard, like he was last year
I dont think he'll repeat last year's results at USO, Tokyo and TMC

Great stuff Lapentti, this was a short match for him, this man isn't afraid of the slice backhand or changing the pace.

I wouldn't say it was out of nowhere. I have seen some of Nico's matches this year and he was showing a great game. He could had already beaten Ferrer in Barcelona in April, it was a tight match. He surely can beat almost every player in the circuit.

Ferrer wayyyy overrated, he doesn't belong in the top 10 anymore.

Congrats to Nico. He's having a decent year. Always good to see a smart player with variety and fight. Vamos.

Shame for Ferru. His backhand has not been upto scratch all year. That relentless consistency isn't there, and he's making too many silly errors. Hope he's in good shape for the US Open.

No, no I'm not Roddick has beaten the best players in the world this year and was playing well before being injured(in Apr).

I like Ferrer, I was on the original Daveed bandwagon(http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=66389) but if you compare his year, this year to last...his form has fallen so far.

Pics' time in the top 10 is coming to a close unless he can turn things around in a hurry here. He has big points to defend in the coming months and early next year as well.

At the moment he's not the 4th best player in the world, I feel like he should be much lower. His game has slipped. That's the definition of overrated. That has nothing to do with if I like watching him or not.

WTF?

Are we talking semantics now?

Listen, Ferrer right now...isn't playing like the 4th best player in the world call it whatever you want. I call that being overrated...a player that is ranked higher than what they should be currently.

u call that overrated because u dunno what the fuck u are talking about, he is being overrated if u think his game is not good enough to be a No4. underperforming if he is capable just not producing the results

again check the vocabulary before u write

its :retard: to write to like an overrated plyer

Calm down my bacon eating hockey watching friend. No need to get upset about your favorite's lacking results. It's not his fault 3 players are eating up all the points, and he got overrated. It's not fair to ask him to live up to a rating he's not. ;) After the US Open, when he loses his points...and he will lose them, I won't be able to call him overrated anymore. :D

I got to love this guy, the way he stays so cool under pressure and smoothly brings the match to the end. Just like he knows he will win it when it goes to distance. So cool and never in doubt.
And he won 3 points less in total. He was also worse in return points won and serve points won - but he won the points that matter most. :worship:

Pics isn't in the shape he was last year at this time, doesn't look as strong. He has to be in top shape to be #4 or top 10, which is the same thing these days.

Lapentti is "openly gay"? Obviously his winning doesn't matter then.
