Murray played close matches with Nadal on hard courts but could never close out the deal.

Will he do it tomorrow?

now is the time to shine, andy. you've taken him to five sets, you know how to beat him, you're capable of outsmarting him.

i'm fairly sure we're gonna see another lopsided poll which will be a good sign once again. :)

not a fan of murray though but i'm getting a bit tired of rafa these days.

Murray's best shot at (prob only) of beating Nadal is on hard. I think he can win tomorrow if he plays as aggressive tomorrow as he did today. Nadal will put up more of a fight than Djokovic did, however. So it will be interesting to see how Murray handles that because he really kept it together today. Having said all that, I'd still bet on Nadal. He's here to prove he is #1.

Murray will probably take a set and then like Gasquet lay down for his master.

If Murray has any balls or potential he will steamroll Nadal. Now or never for him.

Going for Murray, but Nadal is even more of a mental barrier for him than Djokovic. Murray worships Nadal and that, in my opinion, has cost him in their other 2 hard court matches.

I think that may play a part too. Murray was absolutely gushing over Nadal after the Wimby QF. He sounded like he thought it was impossible to beat Nadal. I hope he comes to play and makes it a competitive match.

Rafa in 2. Djokovic played pretty badly today and Andy had some difficulty closing it out. He was agressive and played well but at times he was still too passive. I mean it was OK, he was playing superb defense, but there were a lot of points were Murray was just pushing and Novak would just miss an easy shot. Rafa is not going to do that. Also, it will be harder to play offense against Nadal. He has to play agressively on every point to stand a chance.

Interesting match. I happen to like both players, and Muzza has surely surprised me in the most possible manner today... but in the end, this is going to be Raf's I think.

Good luck to both, please make it an enjoyable match! :D

I don't think Nole played badly at all. He missed a few forehands in the first set, but there was nothing wrong with his second set performance other than those horrible drop shots in the TB. I think how ineffective he was came down to how well Murray defended.

I'm a big fan of Andy but seriously,i didn't find he played that agressively yesterday.
Let's be honest, the Djoker was dominating most of the rallies but then, some shoking UEs and some great defense from Andy eventually frustrated him.

Rafa in 2.

Murray is an easier matchup for Nadal than Gasquet is.

MrChopin
07-26-2008, 09:45 AM
If Murray plays like he did against Djokovic, he's got a real chance. Nadal was impressive for most of the match against Gasquet, but to be honest, this was more of a clay match (The odd Gasquet bash-for-winner aside). Nadal's cc bh hasn't been on fire, and his volleying is suspect. He isn't penetrating the court consistently, his passing shots were somewhat off tonight, and Gasquet was pounding some of his soft serves. Djokovic-Murray was far more aggressive, and they were hitting through the court.

If Murray doesn't implode like he did several times against Djok in set #2, this will probably go three.

Muzza will be buzzing off his Djokovic win. But whenever Muzza has a big win his response in the following match is usauly a let down....i.e Wimbledon.

Bt Rafzilla cant keep this winning streak up forever right? Murray is the only player left in te draw to even threaten. Im gonna stay positive and go with Murray in 3.

Chrisilson
07-26-2008, 10:02 AM
The main thing is that Andy stayed mentally strong against Nole and that will give him massive confidence and belief today.

I hope that Andy can hang in there like he did yesterday. Nadal isn't going to crumble like Djokovic.

Nadal hasn't been impressive at all to me, he was won most of his matches because his opponents lose their head, but at the moment for Rafa there is just no doubt about winning.

Murray is goign to have to play his heart out to get the better of him.

Nothing against Murray at all, but I would like to see Nadal destroy him (again).

See what excuses people make this time.....

"Djokovic lost on a bad day, so this technicaly dosent count as a win"

"This blue clay court had more clay added on for this match"

"Who can count on Murray anyway, he makes Baghdatis look consistent!"

"Nadal got a better schedule"

"Federer will reign again"

"The crowd was too noisy"

"Nadal took 5 minutes in between points, this is a death penalty offense"

and on and on......

Deivid23

This will be a very good match I´m convinced. Murray should be pumped up and more confident than ever after yesterday´s result. I expect a 3 setter, but not a flukey one as the one Gasquet was part yesterday, should be a dogfight and may the better player win tonight. If Nadal wins, great, if Murray does I will also like it as it will be Andy´s breakthrough and I want his talent to do the big talking asap

RAFAfan25
07-26-2008, 11:04 AM
judging from previous interviews with rafa and toni nadal, they both seem to have immense respect for the scottish skeleton to the point where rafa even said "for sure andy will be in the top position in the future, he has unbelievable game and strokes"

hence, i see this as being a very close encounter that could either way, i saw the skinny skeleton play yesterday and he was playing with incredible aggression and downright ridiculous returns off the serbs' booming serves. This entire match could well depend on how effectively KinG Rafa serves, if he has to hits lots of 2nd serves, murray will make him pay. With that being said, i predict an extremely nervy affair from both sides. I just hope that the mighty spaniard KING RAFA will find his 7th gear to outgun the hideously ugly scottish skeleton...

Well,

If you consider winning a set in 1/4 final in MS tournament is a bad performance, then I really could not help you. And Simon is playing quite well lately.
Andrew Murray has performed much worse at numerous times , I remember beeing baggelled by The Faker last year in Miami and winning only one game in the match.

That is by definition worst performance by someone in a MS event.

Cilic is just a manufactured, one dimensional player. He has good ball striking abilities but that alone won't be enough. His forehand is ugly as hell and he doesn't have any feel for the game.

Anyway this is about Murray vs Nadal..........I think Murray enjoys the big stage under the lights. He gave Rafa a hell of a fight in Australia and Madrid, although its fair to say Rafa is a much better player now. Its important he plays aggressively..........if he does, he has every chance.

07-26-2008, 12:31 PM
Nadal will probably take it being stronger in the big moments but Murray could well take a set and make Nadal work very hard. I think the problem for Murray is that while he has a reasonable game for hurting Nadal the Spainard enjoys playing Murray and feeds off him. We saw in Madrid both of these two at a very high level and in the end on big points Nadal was just too good. Nothing has happened over the last 9 (?) months to make me think things will be different in Toronto.

This is not easy to call, I think Murray can attack Nadal's serve here, while he could not on grass. Still, Nadal should eventually exploit the low % first serve of Murray, so Nadal in 3.

This Is Murrays best chance to win a Masters event, nadal hardly convincing this week and looking vulnrable, on his best surface and plays kiefer or simon in the final.

50:50 IMO.

Murray is playing so good, and even though he was passive at times against Djokovic, he showed he can take the initiative and to dictate play. He should do it even more against Rafa, and he'll have a great chance to win. I think one thing he should do a lot is to attack Rafa's topspin forehand's with a crosscourt backhand, like he did in that match in AO.

Murray always attacks when he plays Nadal. That's why he has pushed him close. If he for some strange reason goes back to playing passive, it'll be easy for Rafa.
