That was one hell of a match point! Ferrer looked out of sorts but Gasquet played pretty well through out. Always looked like he was going to win this one.

Stunning match point, Gasquet has, surprisingly, amazing agility. He, Murray, Nadal and Djokovic are very athletic.

everyone knew Gimp was gonna lose this one. Nadal told him to get out of my way.

now instead of a battler he faces a wuss.

I haven't been this pumped about a men's match in ages. Ages ages ages.

My favorite finally has a good result this year. :sobbing: I am so happy. He played some great points. He played overall an average match, groundstrokes still look like shit, but he was going for the right shots even if not executing them more often than not. Glad his volleys, finesse, and serve worked.

Great great win. :)

Well, Pics didn't have his best day and on top got injured in the second set. Gasquet was inspired, have to say, played amazingly from all angles and was lucky every time with the net. Best last point on the tournament.

Congrats to Gasquet, he should enjoy the night as tomorrow will be thouroughly destroyed.

Richard took it to Ferrer and prevailed.

When he is in this form, there are very few players who can beat him and Ferrer is not one of them.

Gasquet looked great. The winner/unforced error ratio for this match was pretty telling... 14/26 for Ferrer and 28/18 for Gasquet.

Nice controlled aggression from Ritchie against a very solid player. That is what I like to see. I just wish he would keep it up over a few matches. Toronto has been good to him with a finals appearance.

A very good match despite the lopsided score and late start :yeah: Very pleased for Gasquet :D despite him going up against another fave of mine in Ferrer  The Frenchman started off solidly on serve and stayed focused throughout, even digging out of an early 0-40 hole right after breaking his opponent.

Pics picked up his level after a shaky start but it was his errors that made the difference and ultimately cost him the match - plus tweaking his left knee early in the second set during his service game, which he managed to hold but required a medical timeout right after.

Gasquet easily held his own serve after the break and it looked like Ferrer would do the same - think he was up 40-15 - but, although he seemed reasonably fine physically, the injury seemed to disrupt any momentum he may have built and he was broken in that game and the final one on, as has been mentioned already, an amazing match point :worship:

thats right. even a tired, worn out Clay Monster has enough gears if he must need them to gun down Gasquet in cold blood.

i didnt like what i saw from Nadal today but he still wont allow Gasquet to push him around. them days are long gone.

Well done for Richard and a brilliant backhand on match point. I hope the knee is nothing serious for Ferrer, his movement looked off today.

what's wrong with ferrer's knee? I didn't see the middle part of the match. was he injured during the match?

the last point was indeed amazing.

Ferrer was not injured for the entire match. Something happened to his knee at 4-6 1-1. He took a medical time out and continued to be but it didn't look like it was that serious of an injury. Ferrer did make quite a few errors today and it was evident at the beginning of the match that it wasn't going to be his day. However Gasquet was much more aggressive than he was in the previous 2 matches they played. Gasquet's serve was great and very few unforced errors from him. I still think he can be more aggressive though, I was a bit annoyed that he kept chipping his forehand to return Ferrer's serve so many times, just to get the ball over the net. He will need to be even more aggressive against Nadal and give it his all on all shots. I do agree with everyone that the last point was easily the most amazing shot of the match and one of the most thrilling moments of the tournaments so far but the Tennis channel picked another shot as the shot of the match, totally inferior to the last shot.

Funny to see how an excellent bh dtl on mp and a good couple of bh returns on 2nd serves can make an excellent match for some people, even with a hampered opponent for the last half of the match

Glad Richie got the win. On his day, he's just too good for Ferrer. This result shouldn't be all that surprising. He has nothing to lose against Nadal today. There's no reason he can't win if he plays with some freedom. Nadal's not going to blow him away on a hard court.

What about the first half? Actually Ferrer looked "hampered" for about 1 game and O.K. after the medial time out. The major thing that hampered him was that he couldn't believe Gasquet was taking it to him and not caving in when he tried to step it up.

The most surprising thing is actually not that Gasquet beat Ferrer but that he had to wait his 4th match against Ferrer to beat him.

Ferrer seemed to be rushing to hit early winners, and missing the lines a lot. I think he's more successful when he plays longer rallies and tries to outlast his opponent. Rushing seems to hurt him. I felt like I was watching Fernando Gonzalez on a bad day, way too impatient. Ferrer's strength used to be his patience and endurance.
