Nadal played well, nothing exceptional.

Rafa played better than he did in the first round, which was expected. He still has a few gears left to go up if it is called for. When Igor slipped in the first set, I thought Rafa was going to get a walkover, but fortunately andreev got up. He got pretty much outplayed in the first set. The second set was more competitive but Igor could not challenge Nadal on his serve and Nadal pretty much controlled the rallies. I don't think Andreev faced a break point opportunity against Nadal. In the tiebreak Rafa was too strong. Well done to Andreev and congrats to Nadal for reaching the quarters. :worship:

btw, just curious, is there an airport nearby these courts? Hear airplanes passing by way too often.

No surprises here and Nadal coming to the net at the right time.

I hit the button at the same time as Andreev made the UE to give Rafa the match. :S

No surprise, i thought it would be 7-6 6-2 though

Yep, okay, but not great. Positive notes are that he expended minimal energy, won the important points throughout the second set, and he was never challenged on serve.

I wonder why his opening matches are always like this. It almost seems as if its intentional. If you watch his quarterfinal against Murray at Wimbledon and compare it to this match, you'd think Nadal had sprained his ankle before he came out to play this one. Nonetheless, as has been said it was a big improvement from R1, and continued improvements will see him peak for his semifinal meeting with you know who...

Encouraging showing from Nadal I thought. He's still got room for improvement but he looked a lot better than his first match.

Excelent victory for Rafa Nadal. 7-1 on tie-break, Nadal played very well. I think he will be the champion this year of the MS Canadá.

Igor was not bad, apart from the tiebreak. Nadal used the serve and volley very well serving on the Andreev backhand and was hitting better depth relative to their match in Dubai.

Igor is just awesome in important tiebreaks! Winning the two against Monfils was a miracle.

Yeah, I liked seeing Nadal get to the net alot in the first set. That really helped him in it. He avoided the net like the plague in the second set, though, and that's what got Andreev back into the match. If he can become more consistent with that net play, he will be downright scary on hardcourt.

Good win for Rafa..but i must say this kind of heavy top spin shots landing in middle of the court will not win him titles in hard court.Djokovic or any big flat hitter will eat him up

Rafa gave me the usual heart attack. I wasn't happy with his break point conversions in the 1st set and squandring the bps in the 2nd. Andreyev played well in most of the 2nd set but never really threatened Rafa's serve. His collapse in the tb was unexpected, but Rafa was so determined not to go to a 3rd. Rafa is the best, vamos Rafa!!! :yippee:

nadal needs to fine tune his shots a bit more, but I think he has a good chance in this tournament.

It just sucks that if he wins he has to get Djoker in the semis. That would have been a good final.

I wasn't too impressed with the way Nadal has played these first two matches. He's going to have to bring it up a notch if he wants to win the tournament - this isn't, you know, the top half of the draw or anything.

good fight from igor. not enough though. I did enjoy the heavy rallies between the two. :)
does anyone know whether igor has a coach traveling with him?

not much of a test for Nadal, Andreev is on form but maybe too tired after reaching two finals in the past two weeks

Great analysis

Andreev played pretty well in the second set, but not enough to beat Rafa. He had no BPs and Nadal wasn't playing very hard, so I'll say: "Never in doubt".

NICE that Nadal spashed Andreev against the wall

nice injury fake of Andreev
first playing the dieing swan on court and then running again like crazy

come on Hitler, don't try to be superimportant to be the forum over-police

maybe you have slow stream

nobody cares if somebody makes a thread at 7-1 tiebreak points or at 6-1

everone know that Nadal not blow that lead
such a score is different than to making a thread at when a player only serves for match at 5-4 games or so

Come on man, Igor clearly stepped on the side of his foot. Fake injury at 0-0 *15-30? It turned out it wasn't serious but that is what injury timeouts are for.

You're serious? I thought he played very, very well. Second set he went off a tad but he was in the zone for about 50 minutes.

You can never be sure, but I think good old Jogy was baiting with this...

I think the thread starter was given the benefit of doubt in this case, but if we see it at the right moment and if there is really evidence for a noticable time difference between converted match point and started thread, we're deleting such premature threads no matter at what score or how sure the player is to end the match.
