I hate it when you see players being rude to balls kids. There is just no need for it. I would rather see a Player warned and fined for giving it out to a ball kid than for smashing there own racket.

Clement should be banned.

Clement should be banned.

I cant watch matches with him. And nothing happens to him. I have never and I could be wrong seen Rafa or Roger give a ball kid a cross word and look at the presure heapt on them every match they play

I've also seen this behavior from Clement live in Rosmalen! Really no need to be that rude to those kids..

Clement has always been an arse clown with ball kids. His form is longer than Ivo Karlovic is tall.

If Clement was fined for everytime he was a prick to a ballkid, then he'd be bankrupt.

If the rule was implemented from the start Clement would have retired in 2001 due to monetary restraints.

No, that will never happen and thank god for it.

It should be enforced, why should the kids have to put up with abuse. Both fine them and issue warnings.

I agree
Its fine to get angry at yourself, everyone has a bad day utters a curse at their own actions but taking it out on a ballkid is wrong

Yeah that's a fair point, abuse of another person should be looked upon as poor behaviour more so than abusing an instrument.

Taking anger out of a child who is happy to watch professionals live is totally wrong.

The ball kids in Rosmalen were poorly trained. Even other players were annoyed although they were not as "expressive" as old Arnaud...:)

Athletes run on adrenaline.. so yes, a lot of them end up swearing in the heat of the moment, in any language. One thing you shouldn't do, is insult the people who fetch you towels to dry yourself with and give you more tennis balls after you f--k up your first serve.

I never seen rafa being rude to ballboys, everytime his towel fall down on the court he instantly apologizes to them! on the contrary i've seen djoke even shouting to ballkids to bring his towel...that's awful though!

With all of you its a disgrace the way they are treated- but tennis players are known for being the rudest and most unpleasent sportsman- there ego's are way to high and they act like they are gods gift and think that everyone should treat them like that!

Apart from Clement, hardly any others are really rude to ball kids. Not that much of an issue.

Bernard Black

Yeah, it's harsh. I would hope that the ballkids are at least warned during their training that the players may react angrily towards them but not to take it personally. Of course, this is fine in theory but in practice it must be an awful feeling to be on the receiving end of abuse from players.

Its more the fact that the ballboys are HELPING the players that pisses me off when a player is rude. If Clement wants to sort out and run after his own balls then fucking let the twat, the ballboys are merely doing him a favour.

ball kids are already under an x amount of pressure to perform their roles to a set standard

if they are not acknowledged and respected by players, this pressure is likely to grow

Bernard Black

Now that would be even better than fines / warnings. Make the abusive player fetch their own balls on their service like amateurs, damn, I'd love to see that.

It's pitiful really. These are kids that will happily volunteer themselves to help the tournament progress swimmingly, get the opportunity to watch some live tennis, and then they get their offering's thrown back in their faces from the likes of Arnaud Clement.

I'd love to see this guy chase after his own balls (no euphemism intended) if he's really that unhappy with the way they are going about their work. Next he'll be clamouring for hawkeye to be used for ballboys/girls to ensure they are doing it correctly.

Tennis players are primadonna's in general. I've always been pretty surprised they are allowed to speak to umpires like they are considering it is a so called gentleman's sport, I don't think it's adrenaline I just think it's the accepted thing so they know they can get away with being dik's so no worries.

Yeah it makes me sick when players are rude to ballkids. So what if they take a few more seconds getting you your towel or the right ball, THEY'RE KIDS! Volounteering to make your life easier.....

It saddens me, I don't care about adrenaline or whatever it is, have some class.

There is NO excuse to be nasty to a ball kid, wheter the kid is competent or not. Players who are, should be fined.

Unfortunately even if you legislate against it a lot of tennis umpires don't seem to like giving warnings (where's the warning with Nadal's timewasting?. It's also very common not to see players fined for raquet abuse).

I agree it's not really much of an issue in any case. Clement is the only player I can think of who is consistently rude to ballkids. He's an idiot for sure, but not warranting special legislation.

It is truly an unpleasant sight. I mean, those ball kids are volunteers. They should be respected equally. It is therefore wrong for a player to vent his anger on the ballkid. After all, they are simply doing their job...

I agree. If a ball kid repeats a mistake, players should just calmly tell them what to do.

Jogy
07-25-2008, 03:18 PM
Depends on the ball kids to change that.

As long as they stay on court and still serve the player the balls and towel, then nothing changes.

And why are they doing it? Because if they would leave, they would be immediate replaced by another one and would never get the chance for this experience at this tournament again.
