Toronto 1r: (11) Verdasco def. Bellucci 16 63 62

Disgusting match. Glad for the victory, though.

Some perks:
- I like that Verdasco is mixing up his groundstrokes more and not bashing the shit out of each forehand he hits
- he IS the most beautiful man on tour now
- Bellucci was just bad enough to let Fernando win

Both of them talked quite a bit, I noticed. Verdasco in particular looked like he hit something into the crowd at one point, and then tried to laugh it off and apologize, but got booed. Anyone know what happened there?

 After the match, Verdasco took off his shirt to give to the crowd as he signed autographs :hearts: One of the commentators said, "Wow, I can't really concentrate with his shirt off... can't remember what I wanted to say."

ChrisDoesDallas, why was it a disgusting match? I thought Verdasco hit some great shots and had good energy considering how tired and out of sorts he had to have been and how easy it would've been to throw in the towel after losing the first...

The shirtless autograph session cracked me up. We get it Fernando, you're too sexy for your shirt. If I had abs like that I'd probably take my shirt off every chance I got too :)

Belucci did well but really it was a matter of Verdasco getting his teeth into the match

That American commentator is hopeless. He makes the most awkward, useless discussion. Namely, when he was talking about how players in the '50s to '70s preferred style over blah blah no one cares.

Something Adler...

To be honest, I can understand that. Congrats Fernando!

What I've always said about Bellucci being a mug has been confirmed here: can't volley, too long swing on the forehand side, can't defend. Also his serve need some work.

Should have won this match, though.

Glad he won this! I think he left his serve in Umag :tape: Hope he finds it or Soderling will eat him alive for sure :o

The shirtless signing was very nice indeed  *shallow moment*

Doug Adler! I knew I got his last name.

Both were really uncomfortable playing each other, couldn't play their games. The crowd was dead, and both seemed like they'd rather be anywhere than on the court. The stats afterward said there were like 70+ errors from both...pretty ridiculous. But yeah, Fernando played well in parts.

I just hope Fernando defends his 3R pts here.

I watched the 3rd set and Fernando played wonderful tennis considering he must be jet lagged coming and tired coming from Umag. All credit to him he kept his head and won. Bellucci  has nothing to be ashamed of, he was unlucky to meet Fernando in form. Vamos FernandO :yippee:

I assume Nando would have loved to be in bed. And in fact he has to reach the qf this year in Toronto to defend the points of Umag last year, which goes out after this week in Toronto. (Thanks to this muggie schedule this year.)

You are a funny guy. I remember in the beginning of the year, you saying that Bellucci would never reach the top 100. And now pretends to be the wise one. It is obvious that Bellucci is going to need to make the transition from CH to ATP and specially outside of the clay, is going to be a challenge for him. He is still green, but he has a nice potential when developed.

No, I said that if he reached the top 100 he should put it in a frame. Don't twist my words.

First he should learn not to frame 40% of his forehands.

wow , major difference. So by he should "frame it" you made it seem, like it would be a miracle for him to get in the top 100. He is now well inside of the that, and doesn't look like is coming out very soon.

When Nando was booed, he won the point. Which shocked me.

He hit a forehand at Bellucci's feet and then started speaking to himself like he had hit it in the net. Then he fired a ball against the wall/or stands (I couldnt see, I was watching this on television). Strange events.

I was there live and tried go get the crowd going by Boooing louding at Verdasco's strange eruption (where out of nowhere he hit a ball against the back wall). Canadians are too polite though.

Damn Bellucci is doing some fines first set then getting dropped by unforced errors. What´s the matter champion?
Anyway, Verdasco very confident on third set, Bellucci could have won this but he needs to work his volleys and control more his mind. Only with experience, off course.

Thought that Verdasco would lose to be honest but glad he recouped after the first set to win. I am thinking that Verdasco could make it to the Top10 with some good results in the last part of the season.

Sorry this is a late post, but...

I was there when he did that. He was mumbling to himself--even though he had won the point--and slammed the ball against the wall in frustration. I'm not sure if the ball hit a lines judge (or came close) because the wall was in front of where I was sitting. He smiled and apologized a few times but the crowd booed a little bit. After the next point he apologized to the guy there again. His smile was so gorgeous...:hearts:. I would have caught a bullet from him to get the same apology.
