How far do you think his career can go?
I doubt he will ever be top 25 but think he will break top 50.
It was very poor judgement from those who said things like he would be the next Pete Sampras.

Well there's still TIME for him to get bigger and beef up his game - it's not like he's over the hill or anything, he's just made the transition to seniors slower than a lot of people expected.

Whether or not he WILL improve enough to be any kind of a factor in the big events is another question entirely. People are too quick to write players off, especially when they've been hyped up.

Give him a couple of years then let's see what he's doing. He only turns 19 tomorrow.

I must confess I have yet to see him play. I've just seen his results and the scorelines.

You people really like to write off the players. When Davydenko was 19 - he was ranked outsied Top300. When Young was 18 - he was ranked within Top100. Maybe he will be as good as Davydenko (Top 3), maybe better. Maybe he will float around Top100. Time will show....

Young needs to mature a lot, both physically and mentally. Not all 18-year-olds are going to be like Nadal. Hewitt was slighter of built but mentally he was rock-solid at that age.

Honestly the hype about this kid was way too big for him to live up to it. Playing all those senior events when he wasn't obviously ready derailed his development.

That's the extent to which most around here see before making a decision about the future of a player

He should retire...

I actually think he's got a pretty creative game. Potentially alot more entertaining than the other American players. Unfortunately, he seems to have some real confidence and mental issues. Maybe these tough times will lead to some good wins that will breed confidence. Still plenty of time to see how he develops.

He has a bit of potential.. but his main goings will always be on the challenger tour.

Imo he reminds me of an american jamie baker

Problem with Donald Young is that he isn't just inconsistent like most players transitioning from juniors, he's being beaten regularly. It might be the case that he just had too much success on the juniors tour and never had many setbacks to really fire him up, but he doesn't look anything special to me.

There is no doubt that he'll step his game up sooner or later but i'll be amazed if he ever becomes anything worth talking about.

Terrible comparison between Donkey and Donna.

Donkey reached Top 5 due to his hard working and perseverance. He may be a fixer, but he is a player who actually worked a lot on his game and never gave up on himself. He is also really humble in person.

Donna is a spoiled brat, who is more interested in bling than in tennis. He doesn't have any patience on court and it looks like he couldn't care less he's getting ripped apart. A losing attitude like he has can only be changed with miracles.

Leave the kid alone.

The kid is 18, not many players (or people for that matter) are mature or have reached their full potential by that age. Give it a rest...

I've yet to see him play but there have been so much hype around him (by the US?)
but I've also heard some negative things from him and his camp (eg, like how will he win each Grand Slam at least twice, and his parents-from-hell)
dunno how true all these are.
So I suppose I'll just have to wait until I finally see him play on our local sports TV.

I saw him play today and it is clear that he is talented but still playing like a junior. Physically he's got to mature a lot too (he look about 15 out there).
