I always find it interesting that Djokovic practices with Mario (queens and toronto). I mean I know Mario gets along with everyone. but after what Mario's coach wrote about Novak on his blog (http://www.tennistalk.com/en/blog/Mr._Chip_&_Charge/20080222/What_a_joke,_Djokovic!)...i am surprise these two still practice together. Surely, Freddie is there during those sessions.

Nole often mentions that Mario is one of his best friends on the tour. I suppose if you're already buddies then it'd take more than one specific flaw in the other guy's personality to make you stop being friends. "Ooooh, I won't be friends with you anymore unless you stop being a money whore and get a better agent!"

.. and if what you have in mind is actually "How could Nole practice when Fredrik is there," well - you can't miss that he seems to have a pretty thick skin.

Automatic translations of Mario's coach's blog, it doesn't look very positive :sad::sad::sad::sad:

As you can imagine, there was no game here in Cincinnati. I have previously indicated that Mario has not been on top and I must admit that I have this dark part. On the one hand because I know that bettingfirmor and second read these blogs and there may be speculation, but also because I föstås have hoped that he would get back a little energy so that he could play here.

I never thought that the three days at home in Split, where he had high fever and spya would hit so hard. But ever since he came to Toronto, he has not been the corpses but extremely tired and slept very abnormal. Tolvtimmars sleep at night and an ordinary inbollning have felt as a tvåtimmarspass. Last week, we did absolutely nothing between double and it is understood cruelly frustrating to see how competitors are working extremely hard and it is a tub important period of the season with two masters, OS and the last Grand Slam (U.S. Open) coming up and you can cope barely up to breakfast.

We had hoped that it would get better with time, as we have taken it so calmly, and we reasoned that so that he could only fight for two hours without thinking about what level he played on, we would still benefit from it in the future . But yesterday, we saw that it was stalled and that it actually got worse. M trained with Tomas J and played absolutely fantastically well but was slack as a urvriden washcloth and we realized that we need to find out what this is the case. I thought not let him go up but that had an answer to blood tests.

Yesterday afternoon, we went and took samples and got a partial answer during the morning today, but the key would take four to five days (those who talk about whether he had taken back körtelfebern or any syskonsjukkdom MCV, I think they said), so it was a simple but terrible sad decision for M to take.

But nothing is more important than health and the last time he played, but that he had been diagnosed and he has regretted something so terrible. He knows what it means to not be able to go out of bed at ten weeks and do not want to be with it again. Now doctors believe he will be able to feel better one, so there three weeks after the first symptoms, that is, from the day it arrived in Split. The second blodproverna was good values and we must be very happy for that.

In tennis, you can not win under these conditions. In a team sports team can always win even though I am not at the top, but here, no one can do it for you. Certainly, Mario could have been introduced into igårkväll and given up at, say, 1-4 and took their $ 8,500 as it is to lose first round here, plus free hotel rooms (now he may pay). Do quite a few people had done so but he is not that type, and it makes me proud to be his coach because he has the morals.

I am so terribly sorry for his sake and can not be more than that everything is in order, on Friday and that he feels alert for each day that passes now and that we can keep running with very light training for his late next Monday to be able to go to Beijing for the Olympics. At the same time, I know that he was not going there as a tourist, but only if he knows that he can do right for themselves. He has a bronspeng from Athens and would, of course, come home with an even noble rank, but not at any price.

Moreover, I know that some of the Swedes have won and someone has lost but I hope you will excuse. I am able to simply not bother me about it right now.

Pepi.

Mario gave a short interview to CRO sport magazine:

"Doktor je rekao da sumnja na mononukleozu. Ne znam može li se ponoviti, osim što znam da mi se stanje ne popravlja. Potražio sam liječnika jer sam bio zabrinut. Osjećam se jako loše i to već dva tjedna otkako je počelo s visokom temperaturom i povraćanjem u Splitu," kazao je Ančić u razgovoru za Sportske novosti.

''Doctor said that he thinks that is mono. I don't know can the ilness repeat, I only know that I am feeling very bad last 2 weeks since it all started with faeber and trowing up in Split'', said Ancic for Sportske Novosti.

I feel bad. I am conserned because it's not getting better. I had to cancel Cinci because Olympics are more important form me, but now Bejjing is in danger. Doctor doesn't alov me to train. Javno's article (http://www.javno.com/en/sports/clanak.php?id=167934)

Ten days ahead of the Olympic Games start, Croatian tennis player Mario Ancic got ill. Mario had high temperature and exhaustion and had to leave the ATP Masters Series in Cincinnait.

After a doctor visited him, he said he that Ancic may be affected by mononucleosis, which should keep him away from the tennis court for a few months. Ancic took tests and now is waiting for the results which should be ready in two days.

- The doctors said it might be mononucleosis. I do not know if I can get it more than once, but I know that my conditions are not getting any better. I called the doctor because I was worried. I feel very band, and it has been two weeks since I first started having high temperature and vomiting in Split – said Ancic.

Mario should have played the first round in Cincinnati against Argentinean Jose Acasus, and he was replaced by Chilean Capdeville, who was defeated by Acasus by 5:7, 6:2, 6:2.

Automatic translations of Fredrik's blog:

It is terribly long day out here when you just go around and do absolutely nothing. Feel very destructive and the worst thing I know is to be maintained at a tournament like this, you feel completely outside the competition.

Although the ball we relaxed a little 45 minutes last night and will do the same thing tonight. With Mario, there is no förrändring but he rests the most and are waiting for hopefully a good provsvar tomorrow. Does that even OS will further and further away from us now. We take no hasty decision but the fact is that he is very far from being physically to compete at this level. I know that there is no chance that he go to Beijing only for it to be there.

I have said what I think about it and I am sure that the best thing is to go home as quickly as possible and make sure to become healthy and start building up the physics again, and hope that time will be enough to be in at least toppslag physically when it is time for a five-set in the U.S. Open. Would that it be neither or not minced if he withdraws to China on Monday and we might run the risk autumn. Ialla case there is not too much time to build on in the rest of the autumn if he chooses that option. Mario is a wise man and I think I know which way it leans.

It is important to ask for and disadvantages against each other and, above all, not lying to himself. See things with their eyes open and always try to reach a decision we both think is right. But that has always adept the last word, and so it shall be. I can only inform the coaches what I think is best.

Now, we keep my fingers crossed that there is nothing dangerous in the body so I can come up with something positive tomorrow, at least when it comes to that.

I'd wish Mario went to Beijing, but I agree with his coach, he has to recover, I hope we'll have good news tomorrow

There is an interview with Mario for one of the Croatian papers
http://www.sportskenovosti.hr/index.php?cmd=show_clanak&clanak_id=3090

He's skipping the USO too . It's not mono, but some kind of viral disease due to lowered immunity.

Here are parts of the interview translated for interested non-Croatian speakers.

"It is difficult to talk about this, but far worse things happen to people. I have never been the one to whine and drop my head. I always try to come out stronger, though these words might sound like an empty phrase. Those who know me know that's the way I am, it's enough to see me in matches. Unfortunately, in these past two years I've trained my mind to always beleive that I'll be even better when I return. This is no exception. This is the third year in a row I'll be missing the USO, but I'm not worried or desperate. In these four months, I proved my class, climbing form 136 to 24 ranking. I'm not knocked out by these blows, just temporarily stopped."

"I cannot prepare well for the USO, even though there is still 20 days left. (...) When the doctors told me it is not recommended for my health (to play in the Olympics), there is no reason to rush for the USO. The Olympics are once in four years and there is not better feeling for an athlete than to represent his country. (...) When that was gone, heath became the most important."

"The aim is to be ready for the Davis Cup in Zadar. We must send the Brazilians home and return to the World Group. That's where we belong."

"After 10 days, they'll do tests again and I hope to start training lightly, as I've already done a couple of times before. I'll probably go for some high altitude training. Everything must be 100 percent OK. I cannot start again only for something else to go wrong."

Regarding the rise in ranking in a few months:
"I was amazed too. Great rise in such a short time. Marseille, Zagreb and Indian Wells. When I realized I can stand the exertion under the most difficult conditions, I gained enormous confidence. I played the best in Miami and Dubrovnik (DC). I beat Murray twice, the guy just won Cincy. It wasn't easy on clay, I wasn't satisfied with my performance, noticed something missing, but i had no luck with the draw. I lost to Nadal, Almagro, Davydenko, Federer. My only failure was probably Ginepri in Portschach."

"The decision about the US Open is a tough one. You train for Grand Slams and this year for the Olympics and you end up not playing them. I can only promise that I'll fight as always and there will be an end to my problems. That's all"

He's skipping the USO too . It's not mono, but some kind of viral disease due to lowered immunity.

Lowered immunity sounds TERRIBLE... poor baby....

So, do we know what's wrong with Mario ??? Is it really mono again ?

News on how is he doing ??? aw... baby...

According to the last news, he was to undergo test a few days ago and if everything is clear, start training lightly. As there are no news in Croatian papers, I'm hoping that's exactly what's happening.

Finally, the most important thing right now, that Mario is on the legs again, and feels that he is ready to start a new retreat back. It will be calm fyse to begin with and to take one day at a time.:bounce:

Oh man, I go to my hometown for 3 weeks and this is what I come back to find :sobbing: :sobbing: :sobbing: I just can't believe Mario's luck, this is so unfair. Lowered immunity isn't that bad (I've had it, thankfully pills helped), but in his case, with the bad mono before :bigcry: it is something to worry about. It's good to read that he's on his feet again. This kid is such a fighter. I am so proud of him. Ajmo Mario!!! :rocker2:

Still positive response from Split. Mario is in place, and respond well on the light training. The length of the time has come to uncork some bollrör again. I love the daily workouts.

Yes, it's. I think it is not serious, it's just only a indisposition.

Soon not know what to get to

It was victory today, but do not ask me how. Today in the morning will Mario for breakfast and feel like shit. Sore throat and publicly hanged. Admittedly, it is very cold and a little imunförsvar in the changing room at the end of the season when most start to feel a bit worn, but should this really affect us. There have been some to be a little concerned about during the year, so to speak.

After training, I took and purchased a little at the pharmacy. After lunch a little rest and I thought that he would play. There was no reason. Health is everything, but Mario wanted to be the doctor would look at him and determine if it could be a danger to his health if he went inside. The doctor gave the okay, so when the decision was taken.

I'm usually always of the opinion that you play are you healthy (hate excuses for the loss) but I thought he looked like Nicole Kidman in the face, then kritvit when he took center court. Fortunately, sat reserves today and he got with their first home in Tie Break otherwise, I think he had brytit. Others set quite ok 6-3. Mario knew hardly figures when he came in and went immediately to bed at the hotel and we are forever grateful for the tournament to the next match is not until Thursday. We can only hope that it feels better then.

Thanks for the news :)

It says that he's feeling much better and started training, but that his immunity is very low since the mono and he's likely to have problems like that for some time. Hopefully, he won't be in and out of tournaments in 2009 whenever there is some virus around  and the long vacation will strengthen his immune system. He sounds positive as always, (I don't know how, I'm depressed by now), saying that he has freshness on his side for St Petersburg and he felt the ball really good in Stockholm, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to win the matches against Rochus and Darcis while having fever.
