US hardcourt season 2008

don't really know what tournaments he will be playing, thanks to his shocking ranking for a few weeks. the first one he's committed to is qualifying at toronto masters, july 21.

he may enter new haven (week after olympics) direct as the entry list has not come out. but then again, maybe he's hoping for great things in beijing, and will not play until at the us open the week after new haven.

that's my brief introduction :p

Thanks...I saw he wasn't entered in any US tournaments (does Toronto count?), but after "Coach Nolwenn" said, "Après les vacances, il va pouvoir attaquer la tournée américaine avec beaucoup d'envie. La machine est relancée !", I was hopeful!:D

Wish he would get here for the us open tour, he could really turn his season around even more. I understand that the olympics is first priority for him though

Indeed, He's on the Qualifying list of Cincinnati and on the direct entry list of New Haven.

Hope he'll doing well in these tough and uncertain qualifying rounds and for New Haven, Beijing's results will decide !

yes, i was so one day early for those updated lists :p

(:secret: my sister who's in beijing, has tickets to friday that week, ie. the singles semis... but also the men's doubles bronze medal play-off. think she has a chance seeing our man?)

 realistically... any medal should be welcome!

news update: arnaud is now confirmed in toronto's qualie draw. in order to qualify, he will have to get through this group

5 CLEMENT, Arnaud FRA
6 MARCHENKO, Ilia UKR
7 POKRAJAC, Milan CAN
8 FALLA, Alejandro COL

not the most threatening names... not many better players outside the cut-off want to try their luck at qualifying. he'd better make it through :toothy:

soulage

A weak qualifying field in Toronto !

If Marchenko doesn't seem to be a threatening player, Falla is not the easiest to beat ! Which Arnaud will be on court? The one of Wimbledon or an other ?

Good victory over Marchenko 6-4 6-0 :) although according to the statistics it took Arnaud almost 1.5 hours. And the next opponent is indeed Falla. But isn't he a claycourter?

looks like sunday's matches had been rained out... but i can't really find info anywhere, nor can i find any quali match schedule for monday :(

arnaud and micka are playing doubles though and will be on court monday. i think they're playing roddick and fish? too many players are trying to get their hard court form quick :)

Seems it wasn't easy but fortunately Arnaud did it :) 5-7 6-3 6-2. Now let's hope they won't place him vs Simon. Or Cilic :tape:

as for having both singles and doubles... that couldn't be helped when the schedule had been threatened by rain (also the fact that they aren't top players)

I haven’t read at all in Arnaud’s forum lately, so it might be old news, but I had no idea he was not working anymore with Bruno! He says in L'Equipe today they had decided for a long time already to stop after Wimbledon, they thought again about it when he did so well in Wimbledon, but stuck with their decision. He has no coach atm.

Kezzi

I didn't know at all! Arno also didn't say anything when he was alone in Rosmalen and I asked where Bruno was...

Let's hope that they might reconsider in a few weeks

I followed the end of the first set, the Frenchies easily held their serve and then at the TB were one or even two mini-breaks up, but afterwards they lost 4 points in a row, were down *4-6, saved one match ball and then at *5-6 the match was interrupted by rain.

CLÉMENT SE QUALIFIE EN SOLO.
 What a shocking news, and just a few weeks before the beginning of the OL! Though it looks a bit like "déjà vu", I believe in the end of 2004 there was a similar story when Arnaud left the Top 100 and everything went wrong, he decided to change a coach and he switched from Remi back to Bruno.

Anyway I don't think having no coach will help him, hopefully he finds one soon or Bruno comes back...

Nolwenn seems to be such a great supporter that maybe she will coach him :D or at least she will travel with him until he find a new coach

Kezzi
07-22-2008, 09:31 PM
I thought about that too, but I think Nolwenn also has other things to do than just travel with Arno. A career like hers isn't something you can put aside for a few months. Although it would be really great if she does travel with him untill he finds a new coach :D

Maybe he can share Thierry Tulasne with Gilles :p 2 of my fav players with 1 of my fav coaches :D Ofcourse Bruno will stay my no. 1 coach. I gave him a button with that in writing, so I can't change my opinion even if I wanted to  and that was also the last time I saw Bruno irl

Does anyone know why they decided that Bruno isn't his coach anymore? Does he have other plans?

Via
07-23-2008, 12:25 AM
oh no..... bjorkman has got one back at arnaud! 63 36 60 !!!! lol :sobbing:

as for the coach... i'd like to add my vote for nolwenn too but only when tongue is in cheek :p

my guess is they made the decision some time ago, when arnaud was doing absolutely crap, and bruno would rather take a real job

well arnaud is back at doing badly so it's perhaps better left at that.

I read yesterday that Bruno certainly will take again his trade of professor of tennis in Aix in Provence! he wants to find 3a calmer life3! but He specified that his relationship with his brother is excellent and he will continue has to be behind him like he always has was!
On the other hand he speaks a possible bringing together Arnaud with the " TEAM Lagardère" .

for the moment this is that rumours….

the return to the competition for French whose Arnaud and Mika were hard! it there has more than 2 French out of 8

Marine

wow, just back from holiday and so big news to read !
I'm sad, bruno / arnaud was the best team for me.
Not easy to find a new coach. I like Eric Deblicker, he was one of his forst coaches, so why not ?

Team Lagardère ? Which means Arnaud moving to Paris ??
Well, funny to imagine him in Paris, lui l'aixois (lol), but not that surprising in fact, it's a good choice: almost all the french players train in lagardere team, even camille...lol
And of course, it would be easier in his private life to be more often in Paris ;)

Kezzi

Professor of tennis, it sounds funny
I would love to take a lesson in that class  :p
I always wonder what jobs people take after a life of tennis. Ofcourse teaching tennis is the most logical, but on the other hand I can imagine they really want something else.

I'm happy their relationship is still very good, I can't imagine them fighting :p They are so sweet together, as Marine said, Bruno/Arno is the best team :D

Shall we start a petition or something to get Nolwenn to have a career change? :p
Maybe she can coach the lagardere team

I don't know if Arnaud had time to prepare Toronto ... the last week he still was in France, at Nicolas Escudé's wedding in Megève (French alps)

Next tounament ?

ok then i take it that he gave up his hardcourt preparation for the sake of his good friend (since everyone only marries once  )

he should turn up at cincy for qualies, i think.

yup it all makes sense now... bruno going back to aix for a normal life (maybe getting married himself ;)) and arnaud joining everybody else in paris :)

Arnaud who could train in Team Lagardere ! What a strange idea

With no coach i don't know what can happen to him but if Bruno prefers to come back to "real life" it's surely a good decision for him. But a bagel against Bjorkman is a little bit "funny" for a guy who feels that's he got something "more" since Wimbledon

Anyway, Arnaud is happy, as he said in l'Equipe today, he decided to visit the "Niagara Falls" lol. He saw a board where it was written that it was about 130 kms to reach them so he will go because he doesn't know if he will come back in this tournament ( thinks to retire ? )

About the bagel, he gets no physical problem and for him Bjorkman made a " mutant" set lol The most important for him was to reach the main draw

After Tourism he should go in Cincinatti

Yeah, and it would also be a quick change of mind, because in 's-Herto he was absolutely sure about not wanting to retire anytime soon :p

Tennismen are not just machines, I think it's a bit stupid to travel as much and not taking the time to visit these great places.
I even wonder why he ever didn't see Niagara falls before, for all these years on the tour !

(ps: if only he could find again my earring I lost there in...1995 :mad:)

he's taking things easy these days. when he loses, no worries, he'll go sightseeing ;)

i suppose back in the 90s he might have the time but not the money to enjoy life this way. and then he's busy playing tennis and making money.

I also don't know, but I should recommend the Holland Heineken House to him. According to the newspapers in NL it is thé place to be at the Olympic Games :p Lots of parties, sometimes a performance of a musician and the Dutch royal family visits when they are there. Are there other countries which have such a thing at the Olympics? Don't even know if foreigners are allowed there, but I can't imagine why not :)

L'Equipe (today)

All is in title !

– F. Be.

In short, arnaud served ....25 aces yesterday, which is his record ! He said this court 3 is a "ace court" cos he's small and, geometrically, it's easier for eyes. He thinks he shoudn't have never won the first set but never lost the second set. lol

At 5-4 for him he was leading 30-00 but finally had to defend many break balls. He saved 2 or 3 but Gulbis came back to 5-5. Arnaud broke again to lead 6-5 but Gulbis broke back at 30-40 after a double fault of Arnaud.

L'Equipe

As I feared, he was extremely nervous after the match, for several reasons.
At 5/4 30/40, the chair empire should have done a penalty point to Gulbis, and he didn't dare, cos it would have given a match point to arnaud... so arnaud wandered if the rules are the sames for everybody, and if himself would have had the same favor...lol
After, he was disguted by his cr... backhand on the first match point.
In the last game at 5/4, he admited gulbis was more agressive.
To conlude, he's really fed up with all these missed match points since wimbledon...

He wasn't out of action but he was surely too short for this match missing many break balls. He could have win this match but as usual he lost

First set : Arnaud was broken early but came back from 4-1 to 4-4 and saved 7/8 break balls in this set. In the tie-break he lost 6 points in a row to loose this one.

Second set : He lost his serve in first game but got one ball to break back in the game after and three others at 4-3 and an other one at 5-4 which he converted. He came back to 5-5 but lost again his serve and Melzer kept this break. In this set Arnaud saved 0/2 break balls an converted 1/5 (2/10 in the match)

He seems to be in a good fit to play quite good but fails on crucial points by the way many things to be more "depressed"

article l'Equipe (monday)

He said he was obliged to play New Haven and want to forget all what happened in Beijing. He will keep a painful memory of these games, and their defeat will pass before all the other good moments in the atmosphere of the OG.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Top seed Rafael Nadal will begin his bid for a first U.S. Open title next week against a qualifier, after the draw was made at The TimesCenter in New York on Thursday.

The Spaniard, who on Monday ended Roger Federer's four-and-a-half year reign at the top of the world rankings, is looking to win his third grand-slam title of the year, having triumphed at the French Open and Wimbledon.

Should the seedings go to plan, Nadal will face 13th seed Ivo Karlovic in the fourth round, with a potential quarter-final against seventh seed David Nalbandian.

Second seed Federer, bidding to emulate American 1920s hero Bill Tilden by winning the title for five straight years, opens his campaign against world number 114 Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina.

The Swiss could play third seed Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, a repeat of last year's final, while Nikolay Davydenko would be his seeded opponent in the last eight.

Djokovic, who won his first grand-slam title at the Australian Open at the start of this year, plays Frenchman Arnaud Clement in the first round

Oh this Jankovic :help: I don't want to stay the entire night for Arnaud's match (that surely will turn out to be some poor action then )

Jankovic :o:mad:.

First break for Djokovic on first game serve of Arnaud lol Arnaud got one break point in first game that he didn't converted

That's what I saw (on scoreboard, I don't have canal+ sport ), a break ball for arnaud, but...3/0 djoko
It's not like if I had many hopes (none ?) for arnaud, but that's the kind of things which gets me nervous.

are you watching the match on tv soulage ?

Im watching it on the scoreboard too  its so frustrating not being able to watch it!
Shame about not getting the break
Do you think he could win a set?

The livestream I used for Jelena is down and i don't find another one :o And two break points not converted by Arnaud, 3 in this set

The reports of Eurosport http://www.eurosport.fr/tennis/us-open/2008/clement-djokovic_mtc252196/live.shtml

First set for Djoko if Arnaud doesn't convert opportunities he will tough to take one set lol

http://www.livescorehunter.com/Live-Streaming-Video/Internet-TV/Eurosport-RU-Web-Player.php This stream should work I think now as Tursunov won his match and they moved to the Ashe, personally I have it on TV

I saw the very beginning of the match, Arnaud started well, but Novak woke up quickly and began moving just great. In the first set Arnaud had on that new Lacoste light shirt and a light bandana (+ glasses and ugly beard), then in the second set he changed his bandana to a blue one.

My only hope for Arnaud was to catch one set but apparently Djoko is not OK with that lol

Already 4 break points for Arnaud

soulage

Of course Djoko doesn't need many occasions to convert break points he is 5-3 in second set now

Well a bad draw is a bad draw

6/3 6/3, after so many break balls, we can think arnaud is not that far from djoko, but he doesn't convert them, at the difference of novak

Actually Arnaud doesn't play much worse than Djokovic, but he makes so stupid mistakes at so important moments! He lost two last games on his serve, both times he was down 30-40, made a good strong serve and then he had the whole court for his own and made an unforced error :help:

Marine

Irina, thanks for the link. Unfortunatly it doesn't work that well.
You're watching, I guess arnaud gets mad about all these missed opportunities ? Djoko just has broken in third set...pffff
(these 2 last months, arnaud shoked a lot in important matches :()

Djokovic has just injured his leg  He's got a freezing and a band, now will be getting back to the court.

Sorry that the link doesn't work properly. No, Marine, I wouldn't say Arnaud gets so mad, he rather gets disappointed  At one point where he wasn't sure it was indeed out he crossed to the other side of the court to check it with his own eyes, but didn't ask for a call and wasn't arguing with the umpire.

Yes, it was some other Arnaud on the court today. Can you imagine he wasn't reacting at all?! During the match he was more like "Out, are you sure? Yeah? Oh well, alright. My bad then" - as if he was just playing tennis not really caring about the result :awww: It looked like he left all his emotions in Beijing :awww:

He is right, a few weeks off tennis is something he does need now.
Bonne nuit :wavey:

Thanks a lot for the comments.
Yes, losing at first round in the us open against the number 3 is nothing compare to Beijing tragedy. Micka told again yesterday how much they would this medal, and it's still painful to think to that, so, well, he lost early in NY, it's ok.
It seems nolwenn played her role of big supporter again today, but it didn't work this time.
 arnaud

arnaud of another year might have fought hard to give nole a battle... but the outcome would likely be the same :(

maybe he's now living with that (not a good sign, and it's in front of his supportive gf too)

He's very honest with him. And as Guy Forget said, the deception of Beijing will always stay

For the coach, he will finish the year alone.

Unlucky Arnaud.
So he didn't play too well? I didn't get to see it
Shame he couldn't convert the break points that he got. I guess that's the difference at the top
But hey, I suppose loosing against the number 3 with opportunities (even though he didn't make much of them ) isn't too bad?

They retired because Arnaud has an injury on his "adducteurs" according to Le Parisien
http://www.leparisien.fr/sports/ca-s-est-passe-cette-nuit-29-08-2008-181223.php

Well, now he has a good reason to take some rest and forget Tennis and this Summer 2008

Maybe a come back in Metz but he'll will probably need a WC or play Qualies.

What a strange season

Yes yes yes! I confirm to you that Arnaud usually reads the messages of his fans in my blog. it is great! that's why I incite you to post messages on my blog to bear Arnaud. Indeed, from now on, he knows that he has got many fans in France but, maybe he doesn't imagine that he has got also numerous foreign fans!

I think he knows my sister and I are fans, and after Rosmalen this year for sure, when I asked him about the ballkids

He reacts in French on your blog, for the foreign ones he should react in English :p Or he trusts the search engine translation to be the messenger :haha:
