In this thread here are some ridiculously stupid posts:
Disgusting amateur

take a 2 month break Roger
-
Davydenko will finally win against Fed tommorow :)
-
Florent Serra shouldn't have too much trouble with this mug tomorrow :yeah:
-
If anyone was ever unclear as to the definition of a mugs match, look no further than this one.

Good lord.
-
I miss Roger :(
-
watch Davydenko destroy him tomorrow. If he isn't overwhelmed by the name "Federer" of course.
-
The end of the bitter Swiss is getting near...:D

Roger Frauderer 1981- 2008?¿? - disgusting
-
:rolls:

Fedmug could get humiliated tommorrow. Similar like against Fish.

-------------------

It seems that just about 99% of this forum hates Federer, why?
1. No one here will ever as close as good as him.
2. No one here will ever win a Challenger title let alone TWELVE Grand Slams.
3. No one here will ever win 53 titles by the age of 26.
4. No one here will ever get prize money in tennis of $40 000 000, and when you take in advertising and shit, he gets about $70 000 000.
5. No one here will break Borg's record of 5 Wimbledon titles.
6. No one here has played professional tennis and knows how hard the game is and always will be.
7. No one here has ever bagelled (that means 6-0) the Clay Monster.
8. No one here will ever like Federer - despite him setting up many charities and helping children everywhere, having won just about every award you can win and have houses the majority of you here dream of, no the majority of you prefer Djokovic - who bounces that ball 30 times, gets warned consistently, has no temperament, chokes, yet, Federer and Nadal (who is also hated a lot here) still consistently humiliate him.
9. No one here will know what it's like to play against Federer, the man is the greatest of all time, even questioning it now will just bite you in the ass.
10. No one here will know the feeling Djokovic got when Federer showed composure and true class to save seven set points at the US Open final. No, no one. I bet Djokovic has nightmares of that.
--
Why do you hate him? Is it because he's arrogant? He's not Djokovic arrogant (Djokovic's arrogance doesn't suit him, because at best he'll be the shadow Federer is), he's friendly, he doesn't smash his racquet, swear in Spanish (Nadal) or in Serbian (Djokovic) or go mad like James Blake, no.

Do any of you take notice in how confident, optimistic and friendly he is? Has he ever insulted a tennis player, no? I did hear rumours about him saying about Djokovic.. yes, I think it was in 2006 when Federer played him in the Davis Cup, something about Djokovic cheating and faking an injury (other players would have pretty complained about Djokovic or maybe even done some more than that?), yet he still beat him 6-2 6-3 6-2.

Does he hate his rivals? No, have you ever seen him make a bad comment about Nadal? Does he ever make you angry?

Yes, he does, why?

Because every time someone approaches the net, his backhand passing shot is just too good, his forehand is amazing to say the least and his server has improved over the years.

Just remember, Roger Federer has twelve Grand Slams, he has received comments from players like Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Rod Laver, saying they wish they had the talent he had.

How do you eve compare his backand, forehand or serve to people like Djokovic or Nadal?

Nadal has 3 GS and they all are on clay, he will never win anything else. Djokovic has 1 GS, do people assume that Federer has 50 GS's and must play to the level of amazing every single match? No.

I am sick of you people that bash Federer for no good reason, I used to hate a player on a local tennis court a few years ago because he smashed his racquet frequently - when I met him, my opinion changed greatly. He was very nice.

^ My point from that is how can judge Federer's stereotype and attitude by watching him play? Would Federer ever reach the lowest level and talk to eccentric tennis fans like you? Hell no.

Federer - 12 grand slams, ranked number 1 sinced Feb 2004.

Noletards (not to confuse with Nole fans) are jealous because they know Novak most likely won't match his legacy.
And they all together just might not like his tennis. Tastes differ.
P.S. I don't think there is too much hate. Pretty much any person with half a brain still respects the guy. He's a legend whether anybody likes it or not.

It's not that I hate Ol' Squishyface, it's just that I dislike the mentally diseased fanatics that obsess over him, and there are also some things about him that I find distasteful. For one, his fanatics seem to think that he's entitled to win masters series and slams and that when opposition wins it's due to flukes, illness, poor form, etc. Federer is lauded as the most gracious player, but yet he does little to acknowledge his opponents when he loses (Djokovic, Murray, apparently Nadal in years past) and in an almost condescending way compliments opponents who have repeatedly collapsed almost at the very mention of his name (Roddick, Blake, etc.). And all that GOAT-sh!t talk drives me insane. Theoretically, the very idea of GOAT is irritating, but it's particularly irritating to hear when the so-called GOAT candidate has two fewer slams at the moment than Sampras. The whole thing is just pathetic. And then there's the whole Anna Wintour crap, exhibitions with Sampras, "friends" with Tiger Woods, etc.

Regarding his tennis, I haven't watched him play in his glory days of 2005 and 2006, but I'm not in awe of what I have seen (Montreal 2007 and onwards).

I second that view. especially found that talk after win, more than after loss. i remember this interview after wimby SF vs Gasquet last year. i got the felling as if he is sooooo aware that this guy is never gonna hurt him but praised him to heavens. one might ask what else could he do, but that was my immediate reaction - of instant dislike. it doesn't mean i would refuse to drink a beer or have a chat with the guy, but it doesn't also mean that i'm in awe of his personality and demeanor in general.

his tennis on the other hand... was out of this world

I don´t think that most mtf users really "hate" Federer. But I guess that every tennis fans is more or less happy when the winner of the tournament cannot be read from the entry list.

There were times when this basically was the case when Federer entered a tournament. This makes it hard for the others to even try and compete and - with the exception of his fans - makes tennis matches not so interesting to watch. Watching a tournament were there could be some surprises is far more interesting than just watching all the favourites pass through the draw.

In my opinion Federer even won some fans by loosing matches and loosing his high standing.
Nowadays I´m more anoyed by a lot of Federer fans in mtf, accusing others of hate, when they post that Federer lost his invincibility.

This is what many people do.

When Roger was winning nearly everything in sight, it was labeled by many as "boring" and some even said "bad for tennis" because you always knew who was going to win.

However, now that he is sturggling, quite a few of those same people are naturally the first one's to jump on him for not being what they themselves labeled as "boring/bad for tennis".

I don't know why Fedtards are so overprotective of Federer. If he's clearly the GOAT, and his achievements speak for themselves, then why do you need to keep banging on about them and overreacting to the slightest criticism?

I actually like Federer, can't stand Djokovic and am indifferent to Roddick, but it's pretty obvious that there is much more hate towards Djokovic and Roddick on this forum than towards Federer. Not to mention the "piggy" hate which is bound to flare up again during clay season. There are only a handful of people who really hate Federer, mainly Noletards. If they bother you that much, put them on ignore.

To have a large fanbase doesn't exclude that a player gets a huge amount of "hate" ;)

This year the Federer bashing is in full force which has to do with him losing more matches as normally and of course his illness. It doesn't help that some trolls open every day a new thread about the same topic and that people still answer them instead of ignoring that kind of stuff.

(Claire recently posted a collection of Roger's threads on the first page of GM - I don't remember the exactly number, but I guess it were about 12 topics)

Rafa, Novak and Andy Roddick also have to deal with a lot of BS on this board - for different reasons -, but right now you can clearly see when you open GM that the Federer bashing is getting over the top. It can change of course as soon as Rafa wins every clay title, ARod Wimbledon and Novak the rest of the other tournaments this year ;)

Yeah, I suspect many of the people who beat that "mug" word to death on this board don't really know what it means, but use it only because others use it, and it makes them feel they belong in a "cool" clique. The term mug, the way people might vaguely mean it here, is hardly used in current colloquial English anymore though. A fool, a sucker, or a chump would be more in line with modern usage. But original thoughts are a rare commodity on this forum, so some stubborn fools here will continue to beat that stupid word into the ground.

Sometime ago, somebody posted a thread named "Why do people hate Murray so much on this board?": http://www.menstennisforums.com/member.php?u=36001

I quoted the title and posted this:

Because this is mostly a ridiculous board.

No offense to you, but even your need to defend "your favourite player" to anyone here is ridiculous. It is simply, and I'd say obviously, very idiotic to do mindless-bashing of a "tennis player" who you know of only from his tennis and words he says to reporters on TV... And oh, you know, it is actually not a nice thing to do the extreme/disgusting-bashing you see on this forum even if you know the person personally... And, heh, I bet on all my money these things are specified in the forum rules, but... *sigh*

So, seeing you are one of the old members of this forum, you should actually know better than me, that most people on this forum (some exhibits exist on this very thread) are just <insert insult>... Still, it is easy to ignore once you stop to care much... That's not something I can always do though, hence I wrote this rant.

But I guess the last paragraph may not apply to you. Seeing that you are pretty young as well, I suggest you to take a break of this forum if you really can not ignore the bullshit here and more importantly, if you are letting it disturb you.

Personally, I believe Roger is a masterclass player. Some of his fans, however, are not up to his level. Just go to his website and read the continous bitching many of them do (with a silent majority allowing them) to any player that has serious chances to consistently beat him (nominally, Rafa and Nole). I dare you to go to Rafa's site and try to find the same level of animosity. Can't talk about Nole's fans, though.

So, for me, it's a matter of not liking those people rather than Roger himself.

Accepting that he may lose as part of tennis puts you in a different category.

actually Roger is one of the least hated sport-figures (and celebrities for that matter), certainly MTF-GM isn't a criterion for his appeal.

he gets all the respect he deserves in the sporting world and his peers respect and admire him (we don't know how they feel in the inside but we never will).

that said, no one can appeal to the whole world :)

For heaven's sake nobody (save a very small band of obsessives) hates Roger. Some of his more religious fans do get up your nose but you can say the same for all of the top 3.

I do confess to a slight worry as to what on earth he will sport next year though, should he manage a 6th Wimbledon. The full Freddie Mercury style ermine-trimmed gold cloak matched with a sceptre-styled racket...

I imagine youre right there.

BUT, when it comes to fan bases its a matter of averages. You've got a 26 year old 12 time GS champ who has a kind personality that covers most preferences (except on rare occasions when sour grapes or similar comes out) so its only natural that Fed has most fans of them all. That also means that among those 'most fans' most trolls and glory hunters creep in, who got hooked onto Fed's success and imagine it translates to them. Thats why they ooze hate towards some other players who 'dare' to strike at Fed (weather verbally or with a racket), because whenever press or other players a la Blake or such kiss his ass, they feel their asses are kissed too. And thats a feeling (I imagine) that you would defend with your life. That being the game of averages, Fed has most trolls and they are most visible - and they most often appear more arrogant in defending Feds 'humblesnes' and 'class'. Im not saying other players dont have freak fans who ooze hate towards others, but Fed has most - by far. Its a natural consequence of Fed being Fed.

Thus the return action towards Fed - and this thread.

I guess we'll agree to disagree here... IMO Djokovic has more glory hunters/bandwagoners than Federer... Just watch the numerous Serbian flags that popped up in here within the last 6 months, most of them disrespecting Fed and spreading some crappy nationalistic pride all the time...

Rofl ugliness is a reason? I'm suprised that there isn't a lot of self hatred around here then. Besides it's not like he really is ugly anyway. He has a boring personality? What does that have to do with anything? He's a tennis player, not a clown.

Its not quite the same. This forum is most popular and most colorful, so thats why some kids back home who started watching tennis with Djoko emergence joined in and take advantage of sitting behind computer. Though quite frankly, I haven't seen much of them, maybe five or six. Could be wrong. Maybe you should check other forums so you'll see what I mean.

But the point is this, DJoko fans phenom is recent, as much as his success. You've got uncountably more of Fed glory hunters who've been hooked for years and now they feel endangered, cause Feds not as dominant as he was. So reaction pops out. And in return hate towards Fed. IMO thats the capital reason, though some people clearly don't like Fed simply cause they dont like him, regardless of his fans.

You're probably right, and I obviously can't keep track of every fanbase where tards tend to flock (probably countless), but I was talking about the official pages where I understand that these tards should behave as the players endorse, somehow, on some level, those comments. It speaks volumes that Roger allows freedom to people not only to praise him like a god but also to bash him to the point of trolling, and I know that it is those guy's fault for not corresponding by being polite, but you will hardly find those attitudes in Rafa's page so, like I said, to me it's a matter not liking at all some of these die-hard tards...

Do people actually hate Roger? Hmmm that is a really strong word, Roger is a great player and whilst he is not my favourite (that cardigan has GOT to go) he is a credit to the tennis world. This year hasn't been that great (look at Paris) however you have to admire a guy who still gets to finals or semi-finals. Take it into context Roger is still a human being - give him a break!
