Expectedly tight match with the expected result. I thought Isner was going to realize the comeback. He fought all the way to a set point in the second tiebreak but Gulbis saved it quickly. Should be a good match presumably against Nadal.

Always a great day when Isner loses. Probably has the worst ground strokes of any player I've ever seen. Can't wait for his him to lose in the first round of Washington so he will be out of the top 100. Disgrace to the game.

Until the third set tie-break Gulbis dominated and Isner won only 10% of return points. But after losing that tie-break Gulbis seemed to be in danger, Isner had his chances.

Didn't see it (thanks BBCi) but from the score it must have been blood and thunder stuff. Shame it's Rafa next so soon - but at least we'll get to see the match.

Only a mug would say something so stupid. Look at his results.

Expected tight four-setter. Gulbis was lucky that won 4th set in a tie-break, his TB record is still pathetic :help:

Expected by Gulbis, this is just too bad he must play Nadal next . He was getting so much ready for Wimbledon...

But heck, can't a surprise once happen? :)

I am not sure that he can take Nadal in 5 sets, but I am sure it will be a good match.

Alright stop.

C'mon, seriously? First of all Isner has points at other tourneys besides Washington. Remember his small run at the US Open? Two, fast hard court is his best surface and understandably he will post some results in the summer.

Yes and he will lose first round of US Open as well unless he players the choker Nieminen again or some talentless scrub like he played in the second round. Players know his game now. He no longer has the element of surprise.

Isner sucks on Grass probably
he isn't used to playing low bounces i guess. But i really don't see him defending his Final points in washington.

Do you really have this much hate for him just because of his style of play or is there something more to it? I've seen people dislike players because of their play style but I don't think I've ever seen someone have as much disdain for a player as you do solely because of it. Seems like a really nice kid to me from what I've seen of his interviews and from seeing him in person and on TV.

I'm not saying it's wrong to dislike players because of their style of play but it just seems like you really actually hate him because of it. I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything. Everyone is free to cheer for whichever player they choose. I'm just genuinely curious as to why you dislike him so much.

Tough draw alright

Gulbis made hard work of a guy Santoro beat 2,2 and 4 in Aussie this year

Gulbis did absolutely great. The way John served, nobody would have beaten Isner much easier. I don't know about the Aussie match but today his 2nd serve was pretty much the same as first, great power, great accuracy. Gulbis just didn't get chances. He returned fantastic and took almost all the chances he got.
